Have you ever wanted to walk around and see Middle Earth through your own eyes? To travel through the Misty Mountains or the Mines of Moria in first person? Yeah, us too. Well here's your chance to help in making that vision come to life. A new team of programmers, 3d artists, and Tolkien fans lead by webmaster DarkOne has set to work making this vision possible.

The project as i said is a Total Conversion of the popular PC game and x-box RPG of the year called The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. At www.morrowind.com you can find screen shots and find all types of info. The game itself is already in many ways very similar to Middle Earth. With a realtime day/night cycle, 3D weather affects, massive seemless continent to wonder, huge pupulated cities, action/rpg style gameplay, and neverending gameplay it all fits perfectly. To top it off the game comes with a full blown construction set to make plugins, patches, and TOTAL CONVERSIONS with hardly any knowledge of scripting needed. This mod is already past the "Can it be done" stage. The setting is in Middle Earth during 3rd age, but will not be based on or refer to the main story from LOTR or The Hobbit. Instead the player will assume rolls in many other scenarios Tolkien mentioned in his works. And worry not, the team is very serious about staying as true to Tolkien as possible.

One of the best features of Morrowind is the linear/non-linear gameplay. The game has a main story/quest for you to complete; however, you do not have to. You can choose to travel/wonder the land doing small quests for Guilds, great houses, and strangers along the road if you wish. You can even become evil by killing and stealing resulting in Imperial Guards attacking you if you enter a guarded town. Townsfolk and merchants will even refuse to talk with you until the price on your head is gone. At anytime you may continue to the next part of the main quest though. AND... once you complete the main quest, you get to continue in the new "powerful ruling evil in the mountain" free world (sound familiar?). This will be implemented in our project. You can choose to go with the main storyline or do quests for the free peoples of Middle Earth. Heres a little bit of inside info also... The team is talking about making the storyline twice as enjoyable by giving the player the ability to choose a good race (elvs, men, dwarfs) or an evil race (goblins, orcs).
Depending on your choice you get to see what would happen in the case of either side winning. The mod will take place during the third age but will not pertain to the LOTR or The Hobbit as to avoid major legal hassles and keep originality. So you can guess that the locations wont be just carbon coppies of the movie versions, were making the tolkien versions. As for races, The mod will feature new and intrigueing races pertaining to Middle Earth to play as and to meet along the way, each with their own attributes. We've decided to make magic VERY rare as in ME excluding wizard's staffs, elven enchantment, and such.

Hell yes. The one thing that would keep me occupied for forever...if its complete and has good gameplay, I would seriously be the happiest wood elf of the century.
