Forgive me...who was originally cast for Aragorn?

sorry, i am a newcomer here and all....and also too lazy to search for a thread on this...but they keep mentioning in the dvd that Viggo Mortensen was cast so late and that they did have another actor actually cast...

who and why did it not work out with that person?

It was Stuart Townsend, who plays Lestat in Queen of the Damned. The reasons are not entirely known, but its been said to be difficulties with PJ, and also that he was just too young to be able to play Aragorn, who is meant to be in his 90's or something.
There was a pic floating round somewhere of him, but he doesn't look as good as Viggo M.:grin:

he also had a bit of trouble with the physicality of the role......hes a pretty slightly built guy, and Aragorns a tough role in a purely physical sense

Well, I've been trying for a while to find a decent pic of him, and then get it to work, but I give up. :rolleyes: Just trust me, he's pretty wrong.

He looks like Elijah Wood's evil twin brother..... :o

I wish I could find that pic of him in full Aragorn gear. He looked alright, just too young and too skinny. And a little too evil.

Oh my goodness :elfeek: (I think I need :elfscream: not elfeek). I have been wondering all this time what Stuart Townsend would've looked like. No offence intended but he looks like a piccy of Christ turned to the darkside. He has that stereotypical JC look used in movies....just evil.

I agree he would appear to be in his late 30's, the prime of life. Those pics of Stuart are scary. He definitely doesn't look anything like Aragorn should look like. Whomever it was that said he looked like the Witch King just before he became a wraith got it spot on.

I just found out that, Daniel Day-Lewis was offered the part od Aragon!!! But he turned it down, Can you imagine Daniel as Aragon, he's a great actor but I can't imagine him weilding a sword, he's good with guns, as in Gangs of New York. I'm glad they found Viggo can't imagine anyone else with the part. ;) :cool:
