Urg.. I'll eat dark chocolate if there's nothing else around.. but I don't really like it much. I prefer milk chocolate. And I hate anything with raisins or rum in it. Yuk. pfbbt

But then.. it's good that we've got different tastes.. or else there'd be no good chocolate left. ;) veryhappy

I'm nowhere near the fiend I used to be...my tastes run more toward black licorice and my current rage is Mint Skittles, but when the mood strikes, there's nothing better than See's milk chocolate bars with toffee bits, or anything from Godiva, as long as I can con someone else into buying it for me, but then, Illuvy NEVER says no to his lady!!!

Mum buys me Organic dark chocoate from TESCO. It's made from 70% cocoa and it is  HEAVEN

My Easter Egg was made from the same stuff, but it had vanilla in it too and it was the most stunning piece of chocolate it had ever tasted!

I'm not a big fan of chocolate. In fact...I despise it. This is rather ironic because my family owns a Swiss restaurant, Andre's, and makes chocolate as well....funny.

... just isn't what it used to be though Catz... not half as much caffeine. I remember almost glowing in the dark after a couple of cans sometime mid..80's!!
However a good bar of galaxy , one of cadburys, a mars and a twix before during and instead of every meal... is the way to go... try Mountain Dew.. its caffeine content still seems to be relatively unhealthy!!!

i swear men have some sort of gene that means no matter how much junk they eat they dont put on weight !!!!

:catz:

Polly Sandybanks
August 18th,2002, 02:00 PM
Oh believe me.. some men DO put on weight!! It's just more accepted for men to be overweight, than for women. (mecry)

Did you know that doctors used to give chocolate to people as medicine!? I can't remember what it was for though, but I wouldn't mind some chocolate instead of whatever other medicine you usually get. ;)

And coke is supposed to be really good for you when you're feeling ill, for some reason.

As long as you don't have too much of any of it. It's hard not to though. I LOVE chocolate!!

Mirkgirl
August 18th,2002, 09:44 PM

I was in the chatroom earlier today and Mirky asked me if I shouldn't revive the chocolate thread. I can't find the original one now, it's probably too old, so I'll just make a new one. :)

I know there are lots of chocoholics out there. :) This is the thread for you.

I actually read about chocolate in the paper just now. Did you know that there's some cannabis-like thing in chocolate. Chocolate gives you a higher blood pressure (is that the name of it?) which makes your heart work faster, or whatever, and that's what happens when chocolate can make you feel happy or whatever. So now that's explained.

What's your favourite chocolate? Are you as mad about chocolate as I am?

This is the thread that has made some people (I won't mention any names ;)) go out and buy chocolate at 4 AM in the morning. Be warned! :elfeek:

Cuiel Rilwen
November 21st,2002, 05:54 PM
Aaahh...this thread attracted me like a bear to honey! I'm totally chocoholic, have to stay away from the stuff or I'll go ape**** and eat the lot! It has to be dark and a little bitter, the kind you make chocolate-chip-cookies from is delicious! Can't keep it around, have to buy it and bake the cookies at once- my husband is scaringly like me at that point. Ofcourse he doens't gain a pound...! Anyways I don't suppose we have the same bars in Norway as in other countries, except from Mars and Snickers and that stuff, so theres no point in telling you my favourite...anything dark goes, mint or soft fudge/ nougat in the middle...or sweet licorice, and even orange. Wonder if I have something somewhere...!:p :p :p

Mirkgirl
November 21st,2002, 06:33 PM
lol Blame it all on me Polly (as if you weren't to post about chocolate no matter what;) ) j/k this is a great thread (and no I wasn't the one who went to buy chocolate at 4am... I'm too lazy to do it lol

My fave chocolate is black, the bitter the better (*thinks for the two bars of 87% cocoa chocolate in the fridge yummmmmmm)

For me, chocolate has to be either Cadbury's dairy milk , or white chocolate. But I also like mars and snickers. I had a white kit kat the other day, which was yummy. But chocolate has to come out of the fridge and be nice and cold:thumbs:

What do you do when you're trying to stay away from chocolate and your parents have left a bowl full of little bits of chocolate in the fridge, so that that's the first thing you'll see every time you open the fridge!?!?! Gaah.. :elfeek:

Cuiel Rilwen
November 22nd,2002, 09:13 PM
You have three options:

1. Escape to a less tempting place on earth. (like where would that be...)

2. Sit down, cross your legs, put your heals on your knees, cross your arms behind your back and grab your big toes. (If you can manage that, the chance of onknotting yourself is so little that you can assume that the danger is over.)

3. Throw all selfcontrol overboard and eat the lot.

my cousin leaned towards taking that as a way out, but we pulled her back, as for me, i have been overweight my whole life, tried MORE than enough diets and have decided to maybe just oh what a concept love myself the way i am for awhile.

Pil
December 3rd,2002, 07:31 PM
Anorexic? Well...i've known people who were/are anorexic...it's horrible... mecry

Bonos-girl...i am not always on a diet.....sheesh...*pil goes to weigh herself for the fourth time today* lol

Oh god i should just give up....though i lost five pounds last month...not bad...i've got a little while until i go to NZ....any weight loss is good... :)

Elrenia
December 3rd,2002, 07:51 PM
*raises her hand* I have been anorexic when I was still dancing 10 years ago....bad thing...and it gaves me health problem that i learned to live with...so I am not anymore...I eat :) ...I still have some problems with foods sometimes but I learn with time..I have to...I hate to cook and still hardly like to feed myself but I learn and I do want to for me and my son...but heyyyy...I love chocolate...

So hey dieting girls *look at Pil* you better choose an equilibrate diet and once in a while eat what you really like... The diet of Polly sounds really good...Montignac diet is mostly like that...veryyyy healthy....is it the same ? and btw being always on a diet is not good for the heart... you better eat and exercise instead... :p

Catz
December 3rd,2002, 10:26 PM
thank you for that Elrenia......listen to her you lot!!!!!
and Pil.......you have to have some things you love in your diet......just dont go hog wild is all.......if you dont, youll end up building yourself up to a binge, which is even worse for you and wont do anything to help weight loss.
it worries me hearing about girls as young as many of you going on diets.......please remember that youre still growing!!! it is PERFECTLY natural to put on a bit of weight and then to have a growth spurt.....thats the way your body is designed to work.......if you have no fat reserves to fuel these surges you can do yourselves damage......that may not show up for years.
Elrenia is right........better to exercise, and eat plenty of healthy foods......ie: fruits and veges with some protein....sides you cant get fit if your body doesnt have its nutrients
heheheh and a lil choccie every week does no harm to anyone ;)

so i sit here wondering how to respond to this post, while watching a Janet Jackson video filled with lots of pretty skinny dancers and well hmm..i would suggest we get back to chocolate but i think i will pass i feel some depression coming so I'll stop there

Catz
December 4th,2002, 05:12 AM
oh believe me i know Togo.....been there done that........i am not by any manner of means, skinny....but ive come to terms with that fact.....you have to make peace with yourself......and i HATE the way our world tells us that there is only one standard of beauty.......dont you believe it!!! there are as many beauties as there are people in this world........dont let it depress you, depression changes nothing......rather let it make you mad......mad enough to say "i do not accept that i am less because im big"......keep yourself healthy and never mind the rest.

Well said Catz and Elrenia! :hooray:
My diet.. well, I don't even really know if I should call it a diet. I guess it is, but it's more a way of life I guess. I joined the Weight Watchers and I've been a member for 6 weeks now. We go to a meeting once a week and we learn to eat right. We can still eat everything that we want to eat, just not as much and not as often. But then again, too much is never good. I realised something that has helped me. The first bite of whatever you eat, is always the best. The second bite is good too. The third is ok. After that it just gets worse and worse. A small bag of candy, for example, is nice. You can enjoy that. But if you fill yourself with lots of candy until you feel sick.. that's not very nice. It doesn't even taste good after a while, you just eat to eat.. basically.
We have learnt that you're supposed to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. And you're allowed to eat as much fruit and vegetables as you like. If you're feeling hungry, take a glass of water and see if it passes. Sometimes you think that you're hungry, when you are, in fact, thirsty.
Also, if you eat a big, healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner, you won't be as hungry in between and that way you won't eat as much. And also start by putting lots of vegetables on your plate, half of your plate is supposed to be vegetables (or fruit), then take the other food. And start by eating vegetables, or sallad, because that way you won't eat as much food either.
And a little bit of training is always better than none. Like.. take a walk or cycle to school/work (if you can). If you're going by bus, get off one stop too early and walk the rest of the way. And take the stairs instead of the elevator.
It's just little changes.. nothing much, and it makes a huge difference.
I'm trying to lose weight mainly because I want to get healthy. I don't want to risk getting sick when I'm older, because of my weight. I don't think there's anything wrong with being a little overweight though. Think of the hobbits. :)
Just enjoy life. If you eat healthy enough and get at least a little bit of exercise, you'll be ok.
My mum once bought a fridge magnet that said:
"I'm not overweight, I'm under tall!" lol I like that.

I'd never give up my chocolate! :)

Boys and Girls!! Are we really talking about dieting in the chocolate thread? I mean isn't that the whole point of this thread? To eat chocolate....There is no room for DIET in this thread.....shame shame.....;):nono:

Serious issues people... and it worries me to hear of so many of you who are younger who are dieting. What you see on tv and film.. or in magazines.. is not reality... these women have their own issues about eating... and in the main its not healthy. You have to look after you. Diets hardly ever work. All the diets i've ever been on ... i've put the weight and more back on. I've lost a lot of weight recently... without trying to... and how? I haven't given one thought to how many calories or ounces of fat were in what i was eating. I had what i wanted to eat... in moderation... and therefore didn't crave it and then binge on whatever it was. I've just pleased myself! Dieting can rule your life... and life is way too short to spend all your time worrying about how many calories or fat grams are in........say..........chocolate!!!!!!!!
And chocolate is way too nice to deny yourself!!!!!!!!!
I love Swiss milk chocloate.... and really good dark chocolate...not white choc tho.... yuk!!pfbbt Too sickly sweet for me i'm afraid.

Pil
December 8th,2002, 05:13 PM
I agree Il...white chocolate has never been a fav of mine...doesn't someone have it in their sig however...? lol

Dark chocolate is ok...in small quantities...cos it can get too bitter after a while.... pfbbt

MILK chocolate however is the nicest of the lot.... mmmmmm.... :p

Ah!! You're making me drool!
I haven't had any candy or chocolate for about 2 weeks.. but tomorrow I'm going to have loads at the Cinema to make up for it. :) And to get through two 3-hour long movies (first FotR, then TTT) I'll need some chocolate I think. lol Even if the movies are great!!
Next weekend I'm going to make marzipan-balls. We do that every Christmas. Take a bit of marzipan, then a bit of nougat that you put in the middle.. then close the marzipan piece around that nougat, and finally you dip the ball in melted, dark (or milkchocolate if you prefer) chocolate. Then you put it all in the fridge. It's DELICIOUS!!!

Ummmmmmmmmmmm...chocolate! Soooooo many kinds of chocolate. In a pinch, just about anything will do - Hersey's Kisses, Rolo's, Reese's Minature Cups. And, hmmmmmmm,
those Milky Way Darks hint of darkly brown passions to ease the cravings of the soul. But my favorite to ease my chronic addiction is Lady Godiva truffles. Expensive, yes. But, there is nothing in the known universe - or Middle-Earth for that matter - that compares to Lady Godiva truffles.

I am not crazy about chocolate, since I usually eat Japanese ones. Believe me, if Americans eat Japanese chocolate, they will find it tasteless. That's how I find it. American chocolates are soooo sweet! And huge, too (like Sarris)!

Arwen Undomiel
January 25th,2003, 02:55 PM
i can't say i'm surprised about american confectionary being overloaded in sugar. i can't stand overly sweet chocolate - it's just too sickening and very off-putting.

as for white choccy, i don't think much of the new 'dream' bar - it's just a white chocolate bar, like 'dairy milk' except with white choccy. i'm dying to try 'kit-kat chunky white' - i bet that'll taste delish!

This thread just reminded that I still have a See's gift certificate in my drawer somewhere....may just have to go redeem it and enjoy 1 pound of decadence...thank goodness Illu doesn't have a sweeth tooth like me...I don't like to share!!

Oh, for all you fans of Reese's Peanut Butter cups, here's a worthwhile piece of info....they make shapes for the vairous holidays...hearts for Valentine's Day, eggs for Easter, pumpkins for Halloween and trees for Christmas....I tend to stock up on and hoard these because they're bigger than even the large peanut butter cups, and thicker too....almost 3/4 of an inch as opposed to the standard 1/4 in with minimal peanut butter....I'll pay full price for a box of six if I have too, but I clear the shelves when they go on half-price after the holiday!!

I really can't do without chocolate! And here I find more likeminded people!
Funny I didn't see this thread earlier...

And I have a sore throat right now.... ;)
*walks out to the kitchen to grab a bar of chocolate*

My dearest roommate LOVES those. I think about her everytime I see them. Yeah, I like them, too. ;)

Little Devil
April 3rd,2003, 11:29 PM
I had them the other day, they are really nice, but they do get a little sickly after a while, then again I find that's the case with most chocolate. ;)

'Tis true, 'tis true............... anybody a "Russell Stover" fan?

I LOVE milk and white chocolate - but I'm on a DIET!!!

Arwen Undomiel
April 4th,2003, 11:49 AM
i hate cadbury's creme eggs... bleugh!!! :( :( diet's suck, eh, elfdaughter? you can eat anything you want - but just in moderation! ;) ;) so you can still have some choccy! :hooray:

Elfdaughter
April 4th,2003, 12:17 PM
Yeah, I know! I do still have choccy - mut much less than I used to! Fairtrade is really nice!

Gwaihir
April 4th,2003, 12:47 PM
Elfdaughter, I feel very sorry for you. I can't imagine how hard it would be to be on a diet! I'll bet I won't servive a long diet! lol
I love almost any kind of chocolate! :p

Little Devil
April 4th,2003, 02:59 PM
I'm on a diet, which is a little difficult around Easter with everyone giving chocolate, but it's going pretty well. ;)

Frodo's Love
April 4th,2003, 03:06 PM
Many :cuddles: to those of you who are on a diet! And a little bit of chocolate will surely do no harm... ;)

Little Devil
April 4th,2003, 03:11 PM
I find the easiest way in dieting, maybe not the best or smartest, but it works for me. Instead of eating so much food, I tend to chew a lot of gum, doesn't make me hungry. ;)

Luvara
April 4th,2003, 03:32 PM
well, if it works, then it's good!

Arwen Undomiel
April 4th,2003, 04:26 PM
oh my god, little devil, gum sooo works for me, too!!! it doesn't so much suppress my hunger, but rather stops me from thinking about eating and gives my chops something other than food to knaw on.

Bonos-Girl
April 4th,2003, 05:14 PM
gum seems to make me more hungry...weird...lol

So nobody heard of Russell Stover? This is getting a bit off topic, but I find that drinking diet drinks helps fill me up and prevent me from eating when I shouldn't.

Bonos-Girl
April 4th,2003, 09:03 PM
neop...haven't heard of him.

and isn't that the point of diet drinks?

Celebrían
April 4th,2003, 10:30 PM
Okay, Russell Stover is a brand of chocolate that we have in the U.S. (It may be available in the UK, too, but I don't konw for sure) Anyway, if ever you get the chance to try some, I would recommend it!

.....and just to be sure by diet drinks I mean carbonated beverages (diet coke and such; not slim-fast or anything like that. I should have been more clear......sorry! )

Little Devil
April 5th,2003, 12:29 AM
I don't like coke, only diet. I'm werid it's tastes better somehow. I eat way too much gum, but it's better than eating food, in some bizzare way of mine. lol ;)

Celebrían
April 5th,2003, 03:54 AM
Only diet? Well that means you can use those saved calories on chocolate! lol

Winyaél Greenleaf
April 5th,2003, 06:31 AM
How IRONIC! The chocolate thread developed into a diet thread!!! :o lol
Well, I love chocs too, but eating too much does make me feel sick. Love those really dark and bitter ones, but they are usually very expensive :( Too bad I haven't got any at home right now.

Umm... by the way, I heard that Diet coke is not good for health. So don't drink too much of it :) I don't like fizzy drinks anyway :)

Bonos-Girl
April 5th,2003, 01:44 PM
yep...instead of sugar they put in random chamicals and sweeteners some of whichc are carconagenic (i can' tspell...means they may be able to cause cancer).

i was never allowed to drink coke and stuff because it had caffeine in when i was younger....i prefer coke to diet coke though...diet coke tastes really kinda watery....really diluted somehow...

Arwen Undomiel
April 5th,2003, 01:51 PM
i much prefer regular coke to diet coke - sugar rocks!!! lol lol :hooray:

chewing gum IS supposed to make you hungrier, but the point is that when you're feeling peckish, or you just want something to knaw on, gum is an ideal substitute for food. yes, it may increase your hunger, but it prolongs the length of time between meals and snacks.

Bonos-Girl
April 5th,2003, 05:24 PM
but...if it increases your hunger surely it doesn't prolong the time cos you want food and therefore you eat earlier.....

Luvara
April 5th,2003, 09:16 PM
real coke is much tastier than diet coke! :)

Mirkgirl
April 5th,2003, 09:21 PM
ugh I prefer diet one... the other one's just too... sweet

Luvara
April 5th,2003, 09:30 PM
lol well it's pretty much sugar in it! ;)

well, noooo, coz you're chewing on gum to stop you from chewing on food i.e. it's a substitute. it's not going to make you feel full, but it can stop you from thinking about eating, coz you're already knawing on something... well, at least it does for me, and i'm not gonna complain about it! lol lol lol

Hmmm, I just ate some dark chocolate with a delicious mint-filling (something like "After Eight"). Yummy!!!!

The best thing to do when you're hungry (or you think you're hungry) but it's not "time" to eat yet, is to drink water. Sometimes the "hunger" isn't hunger, but thirst, it only shows as hunger. If that made sence. ;) I've noticed that this helps though. You should drink at least 8 glasses (ca 2 litres) of water every day.

Fruit is also very good. Thought not pinapple, as that has lots of sugar in it. :)

Chocolate.. ah.. I love all sorts of chocolate! Except stuff with raisins or alcohol in it. I really like "Milka", I also like "Lindt" and "Marabou". :) yum!!

 Yummmm... Marabou is delicious, but so very expensive over here... Is there a difference between Sweden and Germany in the prices? (Marabou is Swedish, isn't it?) I really hope that you are not too shocked :o when you want to buy Marabou in Leipzig... ;)

 Milka

My fave chocolate is Galaxy... just melts in the mouth... So much nicer than Dairy Milk...
My fave chocolate is milk chocolate, but I also like white. I'm not too fond of dark as it is a bit too rich for me. I also like mint chocolate, but not orange chocolate. Hehe. Now you know more important facts about me lol

YB!

Arwen Undomiel
April 6th,2003, 03:10 PM
i've never been keen on just eating chocolate pieces such as galaxy, or dairy milk; i always like my chocolate to have something in the centre, like nuts, biscuit, or caramel, so i'd much rather prefer galaxy swirls to galaxy.

i love mint chocolate, yayb!!! mint matchsticks and after eight are the best!!! i like orange chocolate, but it's not what i would usually buy - terry's chocolate orange is lovely.

April 6th,2003, 03:16 PM
I don't like toffee or caramel  Mint Aero is veeeery nice, but I don't like the mint "creme" chocolates, I prefer solid mint tasting er... stuff. :p When it comes to chocolate I am very fussy lol

Little Devil
April 6th,2003, 05:23 PM
I love mint chocolate, but I don't like Terry's chocolate orange, makes me feel sick, I guess the small little ones are ok, but not a big fan of chocolate orange. ;)

I don't like toffee or caramel ones either... I don't like toffee and caramel for that matter

btw my father came back with a black chocolate with almonds for me  Doesn't he know me lol

April 6th,2003, 06:21 PM
That's unusual, isn't it Mirkgirl, that we both don't like toffee or caramel! Most people do! lol The only thing I can stand with toffee in is Mars bars, though they aren't my fave chocs.
I don't mind nuts in chocolates, though my friend wouldn't like them, she's allergic! :p

Mirkgirl
April 6th,2003, 06:29 PM
um I love Mars, forgot about it... but that's the only caramel/toffee thingy I like... somehow they make it taste good in it

I love both nuts and chocolate, even tho I prefer them separate...

YayBoromir!
April 6th,2003, 06:32 PM
Yeah, somehow I can't really taste the toffee/caramel in Mars, there's too much of that soft and fluffy filling and more chocolate that it reduces the taste of the toffee. My friend made me eat a Rolo at school as a dare and it was disgusting pfbbt lol

Pil
April 6th,2003, 08:37 PM
Oh my! U dont like toffee?! :o

I suppose i prefer plain chocolate to chocolate with stuff in it. I'm not a fan of wafer...........pfbbt

Luvara
April 6th,2003, 08:49 PM
Frodo's Love- I think Marabou is Swedish, but I don't know... I'ts not so expensive in Sweden!!

Mars bars are just soo gr8!!! And Snickers!!! *licks around her mouth*

Mirkgirl
April 6th,2003, 09:31 PM
Snickers are great for energy... and tasty at the same time... but I prefer the taste of Mars myself

Luvara
April 6th,2003, 09:33 PM
mhm! Mars are great!!!

YayBoromir!
April 7th,2003, 12:06 AM
Mars are quite tasty. I don't like Snickers though. Most of the chocolate is just plain, ordinary chocolate, e.g. Galaxy for me, but I do have a soft spot for Maltesers... during TTT I ate absolutely loads I was hooked!! lol

Arwen Undomiel
April 7th,2003, 12:09 AM
i hate mars... don't like marzipan! :( i lurrrrrve snickers, though... all that nutty goodness... lol lol :naughty:
