Its been anounced that The Two Towers will be a 12a certificate when it is released in the uk. I think this could be great but when we end up getting all three on dvd, the fellowship of the ring will look a bit out of place with its PG certificate lol

Thoughts?

I always found the whole film ratings gamut a bit odd - I mean, chop off one or two heads and that seems appropriate enough, but do that a thousand times and Little Billy can't watch no more? :wicked: I guess I'm enamored with the irony. I'm just glad Orc blood is black or else we'd be looking at real trouble.

OOoooo yeh. That would've looked really bad yeeeew.. Yes the ratings can be really weird sometimes. Surely you'd start to habituate to the head chopping the more there are. It has to be the first one or two that has the most effect. And really given how graphic some games can be. Personally I thought the wraiths had a bigger impact.

The FOTR SEE DVD was rated M (15+) "for mature audiences" in Australia. I can't remember what the theatrical release was. So maybe that wont be a problem here TRB :)

You know what's messed up about film ratings here in america? There are millions of people who wouldn't be caught DEAD at a PG (parental guidance suggested), or some at even a PG-13 (Innapropriate for children under 13) movie. So you know what directors do? They add gratuitous swearing, violence, and sex to boost it up to an R (17 and under not admitted without a parent or guardian) because MORE people will see it with an R rating than a lower rating!

A question. :) What does 12A translate to here in the US?

That's weird Orkybash. I mean...REALLY weird.
[And I'm moving to the States next year - oh my]

Nessa,
I'm guessing the closest would be PG-13 (?) and apparently its been rated PG-13 for you guys. Not that countries have the same standards in censorship - whats MA in one country can be R in another. We still don't know in Australia what it will be, I guess PG13 (we're usually in between the UK and USA)
12A is: No-one younger than 12 may see the film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.

Thanks!

PG-13 is good for me.
