Did you know that I was the THIRTEENTH person to join the forums? Does this mean something horrible is going to happen to me? Should I throw salt over my shoulder? I'm scared . . .

Well, Beregond, I consider 13 to be a lucky number.

Especially when you're as evil as I am.... :wicked:

...

Anyway, there's only one unlucky number - 0 - because it's only got lonely #1 for company. Poor 0.

*thinks for a moment*

No... Actually Infinity is an unlucky number as well, because no one will ever reach it.

:)

Well.. sometimes 13 can be a lucky number. But you never know. :) So you'd better be careful. You might turn into an elf or something! :elfeek:

Catz

11's my lucky number...dunno why... :p

13 can be EXTREMEMLY lucky, if used at certain times of the year in spells and stuff...but bonos-girl could probably explain better than me! :embarras: :)

Citizen number Infinite... now that would be impressive. lol

16 is my lucky number - but dont worry Beregond. But *says like Frodo:* What could possibly happen?

Kwijibo
July 26th,2002, 08:22 PM
You know on ships they don't have the number thirteen on their cabin doors. It goes straight from 12 to 14.

Word of warning - I'm known for being full of useless facts.

I'll tell you something spooky. In the Ring poem, it goes:
3 rings for the Elven Kings under the sky,
7 for the Dwarf Lords in their halls of stone,
9 for the Mortal men doomed to die,
1 for the Dark Lord on his dark throne ... e.t.c

Well, turn around the numbers from the beginning of each line and you get 1973 - the year Tolkien died! :elfeek: :elfeek: :elfeek:
Isn't that wierd? Do think he somehow predicted his own death?

Kwijibo
July 26th,2002, 08:27 PM
I gotta say this now while it's on my mind.
This place seems really anti-elf. Don't kill me for saying that, I've only been here a day! It just seems that way ... elf :archer:

About the luck thing, I find pennies really lucky, you know that rhyme,
Give a penny to a friend,
Then your luck will never end?
Well, my friend gave me a penny once and we got out of gym, music and french speaking exam all on one day!

Nessa
July 26th,2002, 08:38 PM
lol

Kwijibo, every time I see a post of yours it contains something odd that I didn't know before......

re Anti-elfism: Well I'm not pro-elf, but I'm not anti-elf either. Some people love them, others become annoyed with them, I think its all in good fun, really.

I have seen that poem reversed = the year Tolkien died before, I don't think its as much of a matter of predicting one's own death as much as a strange coincidence. But who knows? :elfeek:

A! Elbereth
July 26th,2002, 08:56 PM
That is really freaky - wow....

Oh and did you know that Hotels are not supposed to have a floor 13, because its bad luck, and ones that do always go out of business or something?

Nessa
July 26th,2002, 09:31 PM
That I have heard. I've been in hotels without them and with them, and whenever they have them I end up in them.

But I guess it doesn't matter, I'm not superstitous.

Catz
July 26th,2002, 11:55 PM
not anti elf Kwijibo....there a quite a few of us Elf lovers about.....were just more restrained in our habits than the rather more.......excitable hobbit perves......:naughty: ;) lol lol
But im one and so is Ilmare, BlackRider is and sos Pil...tho she does extra duty as a hobbit perve too
All in good fun;)

I think any buildings that had more than 13 floors would freak me out!

By the way, I noticed something when I was in an airplane a few weeks ago. On the left side they had A and B (and a number) on the chairs, and on the right side they had D and E (and a number). What happend to C?? Is that the aisle??

Or would C be some sort of unlucky letter for airplanes? Or didn't they like the letter C? Hmm...

A! Elbereth
July 28th,2002, 07:16 PM
I dont know about unlucky, but you never know! hehe lol The planes I've been on have C.... they usually go A, B, then C, D, E ....er.wait..what...um....argh!:duh:

Pil
July 28th,2002, 07:39 PM
Bonos-girl: when i went to china none of the planes had a 'I' they went straight from 'H' to 'J'....weird.....

(the whole satanism being linked to no. 13 is a myth by catholics in the witch burnin times about the satanists making fun of th echurch and there being 13 people at th elast supper)

A! Elbereth
July 28th,2002, 10:31 PM
who said anything about satanism?

Catz
July 28th,2002, 10:43 PM
Pil was just explaining the origins of the number 13 superstitions A!Elbereth.....and yeah, as far as i know it does stem from the idea that there were 13 people at the last supper....but every country has its own superstitions.....has anyone come across any odd ones on their travels?

I have heard though that 13 is seen as an unlucky number because it's the odd one out. I'm not sure why 12 would be better though!? I forgot that part. :)

Actually, I think it's pretty stupid that some hotels don't have a floor 13. I mean.. they still do, don't they, it's just that they call it 14 instead. Silly.

HobbitFriend
July 29th,2002, 09:25 PM
lol Sandybanks just reminded me of this time i went with my french class to Canada...
The teachers told all of us students to meet on the 13th floor before we went to dinner. So there i was with a few of my friends and we couldn't find the 13th floor! - there was no button (in the elevator of our hotel)!

We later found out that the 13th floor was actually some meeting hall/cafeteria place. ...we ended up being late asking everyone where the 13th floor was! roflmao

superstition is kinda nonsense.

but one time on my algebra final i didnt have time to finish and when there was 1 minute left i checked off the last 20 questions with "C" and i got a 93!!! that was a little lucky

Nessa
July 29th,2002, 10:55 PM
lol hobbitfriend!

Black Rider, that reminds me of many an algerbra final. lol Unfortunately I don't do so well......

Superstitions can be rather amusing.... a friend of mine refuses to talk for an hour before every basketball game. I suppose thats more of a ritual or a zen type of thing, but she claims talking at all causes bad luck.

HobbitFriend
July 30th,2002, 12:32 AM
I'm not so sure i believe in luck or superstions... but Hobbits always seem to have good luck. Well, good luck in bad situations where bad luck had brought them to those bad situations that good luck luckily brought them out of.... am i making any sense??? lol
