why am I not aloud to think that hobbits act like stereotypcial Gay people???
I belive they do..
and I don't belive for a second that any one can say they don't.
Watch the extened DvD the 4 hobbit acters also belive the same thing...

would my sigg have still been changed if it had said
'I DON'T think that hobbits act like stereotypcial Gay people'
instead of
'I think that hobbits act like stereotypcial Gay people'???

I am confused on the whole mater and I would like my sigg to be restored....

Morgoth...

Please refer to the pm that you recieved from one of my admins, and to the email I sent you.

An opinion of this nature may or may not be suitable for discussion within a thread and is most definitly not appropriate as a signature.

I am sorry but the pm is invalid as it is not a corect veiw of the situation
the Pm sates that the statment in my sig
it is not aloud because it is a coment of a homophobia nature.
This is not the case so your reasons or not vaild
please tell me a Valid reason why my sigg has been altered.

you see by taking away my sig, it is in fact you whom have a homophobic stance on the issue

Err, maybe it offended someone? mecry I mean, I don't think it's a big deal at least.

Okay.....

Here is the rule as it reads:

1. No foul language, racist comment, religious bigotry, homophobia or personal attacks. These kinds of behaviour are not acceptable in the real world and so not in this virtual one.

Our initial reason is still valid. That that type of a statement can be viewed as a slant againt the gay community, and while borderline, it's not appropriate for this environment.

Expressed statements of that nature that slant anothers faith, sexual orientation, or beliefs have no place amidst a Tolkien related forum.

Your signature will not be restored. You are free to create another if you wish as long as it is not offensive.

We have a nice friendly community here. I really think there are many other topics that we could be discussing. My apologies if you find that our rules are too stringent, however they apply to one and all, and are non-negotiable.

well I am unhappy still about the fact that by taking my sig away you or in a sence saying that I am Trying to be offensive.
There is no excuss for that my friend.
I am by no means homophobic,
and my sig was tolkien based as it is a view taken by me on how hobbits act.
or you telling me that Hobbits or not Tolkien based.
a Question if I may do you even Know what stereotypcial means???
and or you stereotyping me right now??
I belive you are.....
one of your admins wrongly changed my sig for some reason
which I can only put down to persnal......
and you or blindly following there desision

Okay....

First of all, I was the one that changed your sig, when I was first notified of this last night, I figured I would wait and see if you were going to be coopriative and change it yourself. this morning when I checked, it was still there, so I then changed it a shot you off an email indicating that I had done so.

Secondly you indicate that you were not trying to be offensive, okay then. However, one's original intent is quite often difficult to percieve from just what is written.

And yes, I do know what stereotypical means, here's the definittion:

2: stereotype - something conforming to a fixed or general pattern; especially : a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment . - ste·reo·typ·i·cal /-pik/ adjective

For myself, your statement, as I said, could very easily and obviosly has been interpreted as being of a prejudiced attitude towards the gay community. There are many ways to express your thoughts in regards to the behaviour of hobbits other than this.

None of our actions here have been personally directed at you, this type of statement would be removed from any members signature. As I said before, please feel free to create another signature and continue to enjoy the forums.

Webmasters... I fully support Illuvatar and the reporting Admin's position. The rules are clear and are there for everyone's benefit. We try to be open and friendly to all but there are some things that we have clearly stated that we are not willing to accept. You are welcome to your own opinion but we will continue to run the site in the manner in which we have laid down the rules and would hope that you would respect that in an adult manner

I hardly see asserting one's own point as trying to earn browny points. come on mate, i would assume that even u can see that ur sig was intended to be inflammatory...not the type of thing we would like to see proliferate here.

personally, i thought the comment was funny...but then, i am a rather strange duckling. and then, comments made to be politically and socially incorrect can be funny...but only for a specific audience, and not acceptable for general consumption.

surely...u understand that?

I am sorry, Morgoth, that you feel this way. I believe Elendur has every right to say as such. I also agree with Illuvatar. It would be all the more simple if you would cooperate by simply adding a different type of signature that would most likely not offend another.

Thanks for the mails but as far as we are concerned this point is now closed. The
sig has been deemed outwith the bounds of our site rules. This has been explained and we have asked politely for the decision to be accepted and there will be no further debate.

sorry guys but I'm not happy about it
being a gay person my self I find such things insulting
that some one is so willing to jump on a band wagen and defend something they have no idea about.
I feel deeply hurt by this.
I was told that this may happen I said to someone when I joined another tolkien site that I would go and join a few other sites to help me as I moderate there now
and what do I get this....
I should have taken that warning and never joined this place

edit note: I have thought about it and I have edited the name of the other tolkien site, I'm sure you don't want me giving out free advertising

Well Morgoth,

First and foremost I had hoped that my explanation of our rules as written would have been sufficient and that this discussion has taken a turn for the worse.

I was very hesitant in replying in the first place, as I believe that these discussions are best discussed off line and outside of the forums proper.

My apologies to all for allowing this to escalate the way it has.

Morgoth.....Any further discussion with either myself or any of my staff should be directed via Private Message or email.

As was stated earlier, our rules here are very simple and are made for everyone's benefit. These rules are NOT open for debate/discussion.

This thread is now closed
