ok, I was watching Fellowship today, and made note of this: in the woods of the Shire when the four hobbits are running at night, it seems Merry had suddenly produced a pack. And he and Pippin cloaks.

My question is: where did these items come from? A friend theorized about something that got kicked out during editing.

Camping? Running by a friend's hole? Extra things produced by Sam and Frodo? The only explanation would be Crickhollow, but of course Buckland does not exist during the film.

My theory would be that it's a continuity issue. :)

huh? Oh, one of those things that we'll never know the answer to? Natually...

Merry has a bag on his back at Maggot's farm but its not a pack like Frodo & Sam's. When they fall over the ridge and Merry says "I think I've broken something" he prduces a broken carrot, I'm guessing it was in his bag.

As for the cloaks, hmmm, maybe Merry and Pippin's cloaks were in Merry's bag ?

I didn't notice the back in Maggot's field. *mental note to rewatch that part*

That explains it. heehee

I think they had them when we see them the 2nd time.
