I don't care what your reasons or even if it's some unknown...who is your all-time favorite actor and/or actress?
Mine has to be Cary Grant as my male favorite
Katherine Hepburn as my female Fav....
play on McDuff...;)

My favs are Orlando Bloom, James Marsters, Sarah Michelle Geller (Stupid Freddi, DIE! :flamer:) and Sandra Bullock. Reasons? You want reason? Ok:
Orli (Orlando Bloom) as Legolas in LotR... HE ROCKS!!!!
James (Marsters) as Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.... *sigh*
SMG (Sarah Michelle Geller) as Buffy from BTVS (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Daffny from Scooby Doo! Totally opposite rolls... hilarious!
and Sandra (Bullock) just cuz she's cool.
You asked for reasons....

For actors I have to go with Ian McKellan, he plays both Gandalf and Magneto two of my childhood favorites
For Actresses I really likes Cate Blanchett in the movie Elizabeth

Ian McKellen's my favorite actor by far. It's too bad people are gonna remember him as Gandalf and Magneto, then be surprised when they learn "oh! He did Shakespear too....?" :)
Ralenquil
December 13th,2002, 01:53 AM
I know he is a Shakespearian actor, :) but since I dont see much Shakespeare these days your right thats what I will remember him for :)

December 13th,2002, 02:58 AM
I wasn't suggesting you in particular, actually. I'm just saying that in general....
Though don't get me wrong, Gandalf is nothing to be ashamed of! Magneto's a little less... sophisticated of a role, but he did great in that too.

Let's see...I suppose my favorite actor would be Kenneth Branagh. In my opinion, he's one of the finest Shakespearean actors in cinema at this time.
My favorite actress is most definately Audrey Hepburn. "Roman Holiday" and "Sabrina" are probably two of the best films ever made. Simply said, she's enchanting, and one of a kind.

After 30 years of comic books I always thought of Magneto as a very complex individual, you dont see this in the film of course, they make him into a straight bad guy.

Ok, my all time fave Actor Male has got to be Harrison Ford, Love him.......;) For Female, it's harder, I don't really have a fave. So I'll leave that one without an answer....;) lol

I really like Robert de Niro. I think his work with MArtin Scorsese has been tremendous. For example, his performences in Raging Bull, Goodfellas and of course the Godfather part 2 (not scorsese) are enough. I haven't seen Taxi Driver but i wanna get it on dvd.

I don't suppose I have an all time fav, but what comes to mind right now is Billy Bob Thornton in "Slingblade". Pretty wonderful, I think. And then I'm not considering LotR, cuz that story has such a special place with me. I do like Tom Hanks as well. He's done so many different roles. Cate Blanchett was wonderful in "Elizabeth". Thats it, I'm blank as of now.

I think Edward Norton is one of the best actors in history. His body of work(American History X, Fight Club) is amazing and he's barely 30(if that).
Also, Kevin Spacey is amazing. American Beauty blew me away. Also for him, just think of Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects.
Don't forget my man Samuel L. Jackson. Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, 187. All awesome.
And just one last actor: Guy Pearce: L.A. Confidential, Memento were sweet performances.
P.S. - RingBearer, you have to see Taxi Driver, De Niro's best!

Oh, yeah, Kevin Spacey! "Seven", small but important part, and very sick...and "Pay it forward". Seeing "American Beauty " tonight, first time, would you believe it! Also liked Edward Norton in "Fight Club" though the film itself was very weird no matter how good I realize it is.Hmmm, oh and I hate Jim Carey, he makes me stressed, but I loved him in the Grinch...in fact he IS the Grinch I seriously think he was born a Grinch!

its weird to think that the first I saw of Guy Pearce was In Neighbours(an ozzie soapie). But he was good in LA Confidential, and also Priscilla.
Love Harrison Ford - excellent guy - used to love the Indy films. Plays a good jack Ryan, shame they replaced him with Ben Affleck.
i think Michelle Pfieffer is pretty good, although she seems to do alot of chick flicks.
Audrey Hepburn is a classic - I loved Breakfast at Tiffany's and Funny Face.

There are different categories you have to address:
Hottest: male-Orlando Bloom (whose only competition may be Ewan McGregor b/c Ewan can sing and he's a Jedi)
female-I don't know-you'd have to ask a guy on that one
Coolest: male-Brad Pitt and George Clooney-tied (they're the leaders of the new rat pack which just automatically makes them cool)
female-Julia Roberts (she's the woman in the new rat pack and I love her movies)
Most Shakespearean: male-Sir Ian McKellan
female-Dame Judi Dench
Most Oscar-Worthy: male- Tom Hanks for basically any drama he stars in
female- Judi Dench b/c the Academy just loves to give her Oscars
Fav. Actor from the Past: male-Cary Grant
female-Audrey Hepburn
:)

Dame Judi Dench is wonderful - I think she plays a great Queen. Her and Ian McKellan i thought were great together in Jack and Sarah.
Audrey Hepburn was great as Eliza Doolittle, but they had to dub her singing parts as her voice was apparently not strong enough.
Lintefaniel
December 17th,2002, 11:09 AM
It was sufficient, but her range wasn't broad enough. Marni Nixon (she was a nun in The Sound of Music movie) did alot of dubbings for those kind of musicals including West Side Story. I adore Judi Dench! She is hysterical in As Time goes by... Did anyone watch the special on Bravo with Ian McLellan? He's an adorable man and has a real friendship with Dame Judi.

1)Viggo Mortensen (Now my ALL-TIME favourite)
2)Orlando Bloom(Cause his hot)
3)Sam Neill (His cool in JPI and 3)
For the Females,
1)Sandra Bullock (She's funny and cool)

oh my god, you WILL NOT be disappointed by american beauty. it's so deliciously dark and funny! and kevin spacey is just an acting legend. he blew me away in usual suspects. haven't seen pay it forward - any good?
i too was rather baffled by fight club! but ed norton is so amazing; have u seen him in primal fear? gotta be one of my favourite performances of all time!

Simplest things first, yes, my name is elvish, its my real name translated to Sindarin, and I ow it to the wonderful Wil in languages! Very satisfactoy!
I loved American Beauty, ofcourse, and Kevil Spacey didn't let anybody down! I just love it when a film satisfies all my needs, and this one comes close to doing so!:)
Pay it forward is a film about a little boy, (Haley Joel Osment), who lives with his mother, (Helen Hunt), a struggeling young woman with an alcohol problem. His abusive father has left them. He gets a new schoolteacher, (Kevin Spacey), a man with a dark past who doesn't dare to believe he can be happy. This teacher gives them an assignment on his first day, to think up a way to change the world. The boy conceives what would seem to be a rather banal idea about how to do this. He figures if he can help someone who really needs it, and they can turn their life around, and then pay the favour forward; that is help someome else in distress, and ask their receivers to pay it forward as well, then the good deeds will eventually outnumber the bad ones! When he executes his idea it has consequences beyond his wildest dreams. Its a film I definatly will watch again!
Haven't seen Primal Fear, will put it on my "To- see"- list!
Arwen Undomiel
December 30th,2002, 02:02 PM
oooh please do! it has the most amazing ending! 'primal fear' is a thriller starring richard gere and edward norton; norton plays an altar-boy (works in a church), who is charged with commiting the murder of the church bishop, and gere is his cocky lawyer trying to convince the jury that the defendant is insane.
i forgot about 'seven'! indeed, spacey only has a small role in that, but even then, he manages to out-do the rest of the cast! hard to imagine him as a baddie (usual suspects anyone?) but he does play such villains with gr8 conviction and skill!
i think al pacino's another acting god. as well as robert de niro. i love 'heat' 'cos they'e both in it! the interaction between them is superb and they share such a rappor!

i LOVE Primal Fear and Usual Suspects! The plots were really good...
Primal Fear was the show that really got me tuned into Ed Norton..he was BRILLIANT..and even now, he churns out fantastic movies..did you guys like Red Dragon? i thought his portrayal of Will Graham was impressive..he was also really good in Fight Club.
Alongside him for me is Orlando Bloom haha...though i will have to wait for another few movies before objectively making a better opinion about his acting chops...:)

Pay it Forward, just have to say ....icky....really way too sweet and sugary for me.
Colin Farrel and Ed Norton are my favorite "rising" stars, American History X being one of my favorite movies of all time. And just out of that top ten is the incredible Fight Club, why was it so confusing?

On the girlies side: Up until a few years ago my fav actress was Katherine Hepburn, but now she ties the spot with Cate Blanchett. At the rate Cate is going she'll have the top spot to herself in a few years lol. Next down the list would be another tie between Judi Dench (mostly for Mrs Brown, Love in a Cold Climate and As Time Goes By ~ love that show!) and Meryl Streep, who like Cate can seemingly morph into any role. [On the younger girls side the careers of Natalie Portman and Julia Stiles might be interesting).
On the guy side it's harder like there are definitely guys who's movie I'd be encouraged (not a definite) to watch because they're in it. e.g., Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Ewan McGreggor, Gary Oldman, Sam Neil, Hugo Weaving, Anthony La Paglia, Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, and now also Orli, Lij & Viggo's careers will be watched with interest ;) Also loved Russel Crowe in a variety of things from Romper Stomper, and The Sum of Us to The Insider, Gladiator, and a Beautiful Mind. I can't pick one guy ;)

wow, my fave actresses list is so much harder to decide for than my fave actors one! i would definitely rate cate blanchett very highly, although i've not seen many of her movies. i thought she deserved an oscar for 'elizabeth'. i also enjoy gwyneth paltrow's work - 'shakespeare in love' and 'sliding doors'.
i've never been keen on sean connery. i guess harrison ford's ok, but i do like ewan mcgregor.

2. Micheal Caine...
3. Tim Curry... because he pours his heart and soul into everyrole even if it's the worst movie ever... and he looks great in fishnets
4. Benicio del Torro... because you can't understand what he's saying half the time... and if you've seen "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" you know how great he is

For favorite actor that is a really tough call, and has to made in catagories.
As far as old actors, Humourous I love Cary Grant ("I was a Male War Bride", "People will Talk", "My Favorite Wife" being a couple of my favorites.
For the "quite guy" sort of role (old) Gary Cooper was awesome ("Mr. Deeds goes to town", "High Noon", and "Sgt. York")
For the old time detective/adventurer I'd have to go with Humphrey Bogart. (Who can forget him in "Casablanca", Treasure of the Sierra Madre", and "The Maltese Falcon")
Jimmy Stewart was just one of those people you just loved ("It's a Wonderful Life" "Philadalphia Story" and "Vertigo")
Another good one you can't forget is Gregory Peck. He was so talented. ("Roman Holiday" "Big Country" and "To Kill a Mockingbird") Some other ones I like for know particular reason include William Powell, and Steve McQueen. The list could go on but I had better stop.
Some of my favorite actresses were Audrey Hepburn ("Roman Holiday", "My Fair Lady") Katherine Hepburn ("Bringing Up Baby" and Philadalphia Story") Myrna Loa ("The Thin Man" shows)
Ingrid Bergman ("Casablanca", "For Whom the Bell Tolls") Once again there are so many great actresses that it is hard to pick one, or even keep it to a short list, I had better stop now before it gets out of hand.

As far as more recent actors go it's so hard to just pick one. I love most of the guys you all have said. (Ewan McGregor, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Ian McKellan, Ian Holm, Tom Hanks, Sean Astin, Mel Gibson, Hugh Grant, and Jeremy Nortam being just a few)
With actresses I love Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Maggie Smith, and Angela Lansbury are some of my favorites.

Cat Blanchett is wonderful, and I think really beautiful, more so than Catherine Zeta Jones - I think the fact that she is so talented makes her more so.
I think Ewan McGregor, and Sean Bean are both excellent - although Sean seems to get typecast as a baddie (I watched the start of Scarlett, the dreadfully bad followup to Gone With the Wind, and Sean Bean played a not very nice man who got killed in the first 15mins so I turned it off then).
Actors I don't like are Kevin Costner and Micheal Douglas, and I'm not too keen on Russel Crowe - probably just for his attitude more than anything.
Heath Ledger gets a nod in my case just for hottie power

She is pretty, but yeh, not as beautiful as everyone makes out imo, and she has terrible taste in men. She always seems to look too made up, and false looking. I don't think Cameron Diaz is that pretty either. But Catherine ZJ seems to have a few curves on her, which is good....I hate the stick thin fashion thats going round....don't really understand the appeal

Is that CZJ pre- or post- plastic surgerylol (didn't she admit to having an eye job done?). Its hard to tell what someone looks like under that much makeup ... but then do guys notice the makeup? (I think I remember a study which showed guys are much more likely to judge a women as wearing none (when they are) than women)
Cameron Diaz I liked in Being JohnMalkovich (okay I'll admit she surprised me there - did you guess I'm not a big Diaz fan ;) ) and she plays a delightfully ditzy Angel in Charlies Angels. She's also in my curious as to why guys thinks shes the"most beautiful women in the world" category
Nicole Kidman has also been rising on my good actresses list (and to think it all started with a competition for the cover of Dolly Magazine, hmmm. She's definitely progressed beyond there lol)
Also I forgot Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant off my list (guys in my 'will watch their movies' list). Thanks for the reminder Melain :)
Daisy Gamgee: I also want to see Sean Bean playing more good guy roles :(
Speaking of Daniel Day Lewis, I really liked him In The Name of the Father. God I loved that movie.

CJZ before AND after her eye-lift. she always looks too made-up, period.
natalie portman should be one to watch out for. she was fantastic in leon - although rather average in the star wars movies, but i blame that on a really dodgy script.

Favorite actor?....
You see it's tricky because Keanu Reeves is my FAVORITE, but he doesn't do alot of acting;)
So then it would have to be Brendan Fraser, he pulls off some good range of acting and of course he has also been with our Ian McKellan....
Actress would have to be Sandra Bullock or Kathy Bates, I know completely opposite ends of the spectrum, but whatcha gonna do?

Also ... he lights up every Movie because of him *sigh*

keanu's acting has never been great but he looks good enough! ;) i like sandra bullock but she's done too many rom-coms and they get a bit tedious after a while! her latest film 'two weeks notice' with hugh grant looks pretty cack and unfunny. i only really liked her in 'speed' and 'while you were sleeping'. i liked keanu in the former and also 'the matrix' (of course!).

I think it must be hard for an Actor .. years and years you try to get a good "breakthrough" charactre/role (?) and then .... for the rest for your career everybody will focus you down at one word or one character .... dude
I really hope that Orlando will not always be Legolas or Daniel Radcliff will not always be Harry Potter .... I mean if you see William Shattner ... isn´t your first thouhgt "Captain Kirk" ?
That must be hard for an Actor
Bena

You're right-it must be bad for those actors. I still have hope for Orlando, because look at Harrison Ford.
I know there will always be people who will see him and just think Han Solo or Indiana Jones, but I certainly don't, neither does the film industry. Just look at all the films he did after Star Wars and the Jones films.
I think Orlando will be like Ford because he's received so many offers to star in films. His roles may not seem very diverse...yet. It will probably take time before you see him in roles that don't include his action/adventure side, but I think he has great potential.

I think it's gonna be harder on Dan than on Orli, cuz Orli's already getting a lot of other roles to make people notice him for. Dan's only doing HP, and no wonder cuz they're so time- consuming, and he really can't spend more of his time acting than he already does. BUT its healthy that he's got his eye on other options as well, so I don't think he'll have a prob with that.

its from darkhorizon.com
Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban: Gary Oldman as Sirius Black, Timothy Spall as Peter Pettigrew, and now the final of the three most important new characters in the third "Harry Potter" movie appears to have been chosen. The Mirror reports that actor David Thewlis, best known for pashing Leo DiCapro in "Total Eclipse" or fighting off the two nutbags that are Val Kilmer & Marlon Brando in "The Island of Dr. Moreau" has landed the role of Remis Lupin, the new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher with his own dark secret. "David is thrilled. He and Anna [Friel, his wife] are massive Harry Potter fans" says one source. Thanks to 'Lady Anakin'

Reviewing my small list of favorate actors, it looks a bit like I've gone only for the yum factor, but its not true, I tell you! ;)
Firstly, Elijah Wood. He's not flawless in every role he's taken, but I'm nearly always moved by him. He's great in Huck Finn, The Ice Storm, and this little project called the Lord of the Rings.
Then, Joaquin Phoenix. He was MUCH better than Russel Crowe in Gladiator (at least he got an Oscar, as well). He was also great in Signs, To Die For, and that one with Liv Tyler thats name escapes me....
Lastly, Jude Law. He astounds me in The Talented Mr. Ripley along side the also brilliant Matt Damon, it remains one of my favorates. Then there's The Road to Perdition, he's quite sick and twisted in that one. And a smaller role in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, where Kevin Spacey showed his usual greatness and Keanu Reeves his usual blandness (I really don't like the guy, sorry).
I've also got a bit of something for Seth Green, though I think he's more of a guilty pleasure. I've got to see Knockaround Guys some day...... I suppose I could sit through garbage like Vin Diesal just to see him....
I guess I pay less attention to actresses, though I like Cate Blanchett a lot in Elizabeth, Bandits, and then again that little Rings thing I mentioned before....... And Gwyneth Paltrow in several things.

And I am admitting something of my age :)
Genevieve Bujold was quite big in the '70s. Some films I saw her in that I liked: "Swashbuckler" (opposite the very late Robert Shaw - dang, he's another fav); and "Obsession" (opposite Cliff Robertson - not quite a fav); and "Coma" (oppostie Michael Douglas - another also not quite fav: but I HIGHLY recommend seeing that movie!).
While I am remembering, another fav actress is Yvette Mimieux(sp); same time period: hardly remember any movies she played in now by name - mostly "B" grade, but Wow she made me watch: mostly made-for-TV movies I seem to recall. (Do those girls - aside from Bernadette Peters - bear a resemblance to each other? It seems more obvious to me now that they do. I must have a thing for long-legged, narrow-waisted, brunettes with high cheekbones and slight-cute overbites: come to think of it: I DO like Liv Tyler :) )

Probably Brad Pitt, great in Seven and Fight Club. But I'm not gay... Other good actors are Jack Nicholson (esp, One flew over the cuckoos nest), Bobby De Niro, Al Pacino when he doesnt shout all the time which is admittedly quite rare, Ed Norton, Viggo, Tim Robbins etc etc, oh and the guy who plays "Stifler" in American Pie... OK, I was joking about one of those, guess which one! roflmao

yeh, i must admit pacino DOES like to raise his voice a great deal, in his movies... :o lol lol
Khamul
March 22nd,2003, 02:54 AM
lol Yeah you're right Arwen! To me, when an actor shouts it should convey a change in the pace, direction and tone of the scene they are in. But with Pacino, it doesnt work like that because most of his scenes are like that. It in turn takes a great deal away from his acting ability because he overdoes it all the time, and as such it is not as big a deal when he shouts when the part actually does require it (if you follow me, I doubt I explained that too well lol)... In fact, its the opposite, its when Pacino is quieter and speaks at a normal volume that his character makes you sit up and take notice. Just my opinion though...:p
Arwen Undomiel
March 22nd,2003, 03:27 AM

Ah, the beauties of age. I can easily say the best actor ever has to be a toss up between Spencer Tracy and Jimmy Stewart, with Cary Grant a very close 3rd. Actors, like Colin Farrell, and Tom Hanks owe a huge debt to these pillars. The Argonath of Acting.
Ronin
April 26th,2003, 02:37 AM
saying that Hanks owes a debt of gratitude to Grant is like saying Spielberg owes something to Welles. yeah, but so what? it is a simple fact of the industry that has become so common place it is pointless to even mention it.
and Hanks, i would venture to say, is a wee bit more smooth than the lovable Stewart ;) lol

Yes, I do believe today's directors and actors "owe" something to those who have gone before...even PJ honors past directors like Ray Harryhausen for his skills. As for "smooth" acting, I love Tom Hanks, (especially Philadelphia) but I have a hard time saying he, at this point, is better than Jimmy Stewart. Lets wait and see if his films last as long as Stewarts.
Ronin
April 26th,2003, 03:34 AM
I never said better, i said more smooth. That is Hanks' niche...the debonair 'everyman'. Stewart has his...as does every great actor, actress...they make the gifts given to them work. i never said better....different.
Honoring...of course, and every artist owes to those that have gone before. i'm just saying its pointless in saying so because it is a given. useless saying so and saying otherwise.
ImDaMom
April 26th,2003, 03:39 AM
But don't you think everyone appreciates being given their due? Even those who have gone on to that big "sound stage in the sky"- their heirs and family certainly appreciate someone like Spielberg mentioning their ancestors contributions to the arts. Appreciation is never "useless" or "pointless".
Ronin
April 26th,2003, 03:46 AM
Who the hell cares about appreciation? Goodness, its like u're talking about making every feel 'nice' and 'pretty' about their contributions to art. it is there...nomatter what or even if anyone says anything. appreciation, yes, in that context is 'useless' and 'pointless'. the ability to appreciate contribution is in no way correlative to saying 'what a wonderful job u did.'

Whoa boy!! slow down there babe....
I think what is mean to be said here is in simple fact that, Without example of predecessors in the Industry such as Grant, Tracy, Welles, Pacino, etc... there would be no need for the better-ment or the desire to find actors and actresses of greater caliber then those mentioned here and others. It is because of the mediums and the facets that these monuments of the industry laid down during their days of stardom that Hanks, Speilburg, Kidman, Brody, Connelly, Ford, etc...even got into the business. Without them (i.e.Welles & Tracy) there would never have been an INDUSTRY!!! It goes without saying that even if their very essence of skills didn't inspire the Present Day performers to want to do their jobs, at the very least then the drive and ambition to be the best in the business. To give the passion of what lives inside of them back to their audiences, was enough to make anybody want to get up under those damnd lamps and start Spouting ignominous dribble, if only it would make the world a better place just for a minute. It's not an insult to say these Actors today are inspired byt the actors of yesterday....It's a compliment!!
IMO that is what these folks are trying to tell you Ronin.....
Catz
April 27th,2003, 07:54 AM
lol im gonna beat Ronin to the punch .......but ;)
my feeling is that theres no need to state a debt to those who have gone before as its a given...........and that the art.......the performance should speak for itself......and whether or NOT its appreciated, its still there and it still contributes to the body of work. no amount of "appreciation" or lack thereof can change a piece of art........and "appreciation" is easily debased coinage........there are thousands of performers and performances out there that deserve "appreciation" but will never get it..........that doesnt negate the talents or the ability involved.......just as there is "appreciation" lavished on things that do not deserve it
and personally.........i think that while an actor may have been inspired by anothers performance, i dont think its the major influence..........if an actor is meant to act, they will do, no matter what..........the influence of others wont stop that

Lintefaniel....thank you.
Ronin and Catz.....I'm not saying that art must be appreciated to be art. I'm simply saying that all human beings like their work to be noticed and appreciated. I don't care who you are or what you do. If you've poured your heart and soul into a project, or even if you're doing something that is as easy to you as breathing, you like hearing a "you did good". And, if you are building on, or continuing something someone else began, you want to hear that "you did good" from that person.
Catz
April 27th,2003, 07:15 PM
yeah i understand that.............what im saying is, that that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the work, and that whether or not anyone appreciates a piece of work, if its good work.........its still good work.......dya see what im getting at?
yes appreciation is lovely........but it isnt necessary..........look at Gaugin.............now considered a wonderful artist........during his lifetime, his paintings were so disregarded that people burnt them...........does that make his paintings any the less wonderful?........no..........were the paintings somehow worse then than they are now?........no........and it didnt stop him painting either.........if youre a true artist........you create..........whether or not people show appreciation or not..........simply because, you cant do anything other than create
:catz:

sorry, i never slow down...full throttle hon ;) lol
to be honest, i see exactly what everybody is saying. and lint, yes, i know what u're saying...wonderful use of ignominous ;) and yes, its all true...never denied that or said anything to the contrary. my point is, there is no point, no reason, no purpose...nothing to gain to from stating such.
catz took the words right out of my mouth, appreciation and possibly sycophantism has nothing to do, whatsoever with art and the quality thereof. and to be quite frank, if someone wants or needs to be told "good job" for a piece of art, whether it be action or painting, they seriously need to rethink their calling....because not everyday will be filled with praises and flowers. unless u live in the south ;)
influence, yes, its always there and shall always be so. the likes of Picasso, Gaugin...i love, love Gaugin...influence the way i look at a field or even think. much the same with Welles....and more so with how actors, directors and the like are all influenced. yet, it is so much a fact that it is truth...just as Jackie Robinson changed baseball to what it is today, so have the select few changed the way we think and perceive the world around us. that shall never change, can never change.
appreciation or influence and acknowledging such is ridiculous...and i would contend that Welles himself would say the same thing. altho, he might just have a soft spot for Ford

notworthy Terrible pardons, Ronin! Please forgive my oversight of this obvious fact! I simply forgot that part when I was ranting about the industry. I would have to concur with you on this. Being an artist of music, drama, poetry, and sometimes painting, I don't do these things so that I can look to other people for approval. I breathe my arts for the sake of the "calling", as you so elegantly and so simplistically put it. I do know people who have been in it for those reasons and it has been to their ruin. A thousand pardons sir, notworthy
lol Thanks for the reminder..:smooch:

...my dear girl, u certainly do not have to bow, but...its quite nice...keep it up, flattery does get u everywhere lol
and wonderful to hear of ur own calling, ur own passion...yet i was not speaking exclusively of that part, i was attempting to cover the whole of the industry. which has obviously changed, capitalism doth reign yet somethings, as u have expounded upon shall, thankfully.....never, ever change.

Ronin....while I understand your position, and there certainly is merit to it, I respectfully disagree and maintain that while not necessary, all humans crave acceptance. And that, dear Ronin, is the crux of my argument...RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE. While I may disagree with your opinions, and you with mine, I will defend to the death your right to have them, although I fear that you do not subscribe to that theory. So, in the words of dear Bilbo "This is the end. Goodbye".

I also love Jimmy Stewart, but more recent favs include Mel Gibson, Kenneth Branaugh (sp?), Michael Caine, and Ian McKellen.

Best actor is so hard...we ( my own personal Aragorn and I)were discussing the difference between Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Gregory Peck tonite....Cary Grant is so suave and cool. Jimmy Stewart is everyman, and totally at ease with himself. Gregory Peck is honor, and strength, a combination of Grant and Stewart. I love all 3, but I have to say that Peck's sexiness, strength, and pure emotion win my vote (that is, today- I am notoriously fickle lol )

I have to say my favorite actor of all is Kiefer Sutherland, but i also like very much his father Donald Sutherland, and Robert DeNiro, I think James Dean could've be the greatest, it's a shame hi died so young. And I dont' know why but i like Billiy Bob Thorton and Bruce Willis very very much, specially in "Bandits".
My favorite actresses: Cate Blanchet, Jennifer Conelly, Liv Tyler and maybe Julia Roberts, but somehow I had enough of her.

well ive gotta say i really like Johnny Depp.............hes always gone for roles that HE liked..........done what HE wanted, which is very cool.......and all his projects have been very interesting.....not your usual "star" fodder
Bale i like also.........but hes never had Depps knack for finding unique roles that stand out
one to watch coming up is Jake Gyllenhaal...........the stuff hes done so far is very impressive.....Donnie Darko is a standout
Ed Norton is another interesting actor..........a REAL character actor, who actually plays a different role with each performance..........and thats pretty unusual these days, since most big "name" actors, dont play characters.........they just play themselves
