Ok folks, step right up. This is the onje and only Middle Earth Quiz Game (Not really)! The rules are simple, I'm going to ask a question about any of Tolkien's works. The person that answers the question will ask the next one. So here we go!

What are the two towers in the movie The Two Towers.

Falmon
June 29th,2002, 12:47 AM
Yes Arien, the elf-stone was a beryl. So it's your turn to ask a question.

Lady Arien
June 29th,2002, 10:42 PM
Besides Aragorn, what other name is Strider known by?

Beregond
June 29th,2002, 11:12 PM
Elfstone, the Dunadan . . . and others

Lady Arien
June 30th,2002, 09:52 PM
Not a tribe name or anything like that....there was one other "proper" name that he took...

Mirkgirl
June 30th,2002, 10:12 PM

Lady Arien
July 1st,2002, 05:56 AM

Lady Arien
July 12th,2002, 04:13 PM
is this supposed to mean The Two Towers?

Nessa the Dancer
July 17th,2002, 06:38 PM
I don't know if this is right, but I seem to remember that in Moria Aragorn says something like Gandalf can find his way home surer on a dark night than Queen um.. Berthsomthing... anyway, one of her cats.
Is that right?

Kwijibo
July 25th,2002, 07:59 PM
Eurika! I've found it! :whoohoo: :wiggle: :whoohoo: :wiggle:
On page 408 of Book 1, Aragorn says of Gandalf, 'He can find his way home on a blind night surer than the cats of Queen Beruthiel'
:whoohoo: :wiggle: :whoohoo:
However, it should be Nessa that gets the next question - you gave me a massive hint, Nessa!

Sorry people, life has suddenly turned very hectic for me at the moment and I haven't manged to get here for ages. I've only just managed to snatch a few moments now. I'm really sorry. I promise not to answer another question until I'm well able to come back and check them.

Question Illu??

Illuvatar
August 5th,2002, 07:17 PM
Okay....

You may have to dig for these....:p

Galadriel was given two other names, not names she's know by like "Lady of The Golden Wood", or anything like that......real names......If need be I will offer the origin of the names as a hint.

What are the two names I'm looking for?

Wilwarin
August 6th,2002, 07:12 PM
Orthanc and Barad-dūr

Next Q: Who is the most well known brother of Galadriel?

Illuvatar
August 6th,2002, 07:17 PM
Sorry Wilwarin...

But I don't really think that Galadriel was ever know as Orthanc! lol

So my question is till outstanding.....hehe

Wilwarin
August 6th,2002, 07:17 PM
Oops! That was an accedent! I don't know the answer!:embarras:

Wilwarin
August 6th,2002, 07:21 PM
No wait! What am I talking about! I know the answer!

Her names were Altariel and Galadhriel, right?

Illuvatar
August 6th,2002, 07:41 PM
I must apologize for the delay, my books are at home and I am at work.

I will confirm your answer this afternoon.

Illuvatar
August 8th,2002, 06:36 AM
ahhh...sorry Alatariel was a name given to her by Celeborn......

And I'm not sure about the other one...but those aren't the two I'm looking for.

Okay..I said I would give the origin as a hint.

These names come from her parents. One from each. ;)

Illuvatar
August 9th,2002, 07:18 PM
Is this game floundering? Will noone take the challenge?

Tis an easy question I posed! :p

Pippins-Girlo
August 17th,2002, 03:37 AM
Umm... Can you find the answer in the Silmarrillion, or something? or is it in "The Lord of the Rings"? lol I haven't read the Silmarillion yet, but I bought it a long time ago. I'm looking forward to reading it though.

Daughter of Finarfin
August 17th,2002, 08:22 AM
In "Unfinished Tales" she was called Artanis by her father and Nerwen by her mother.

If this is correct then my question is: What are the names of the two Maiar that sailed the sun and the moon, and which Vala did each serve?

Illuvatar
August 17th,2002, 04:41 PM
WOW!! Very well done Daughter of Finarfin!!

Thank you for stepping up to the challenge and restoring life to this thread.

So let game proceed with her question! :p

Mirkgirl
August 18th,2002, 12:36 AM
Isil/also Ithil, the Sheen/ or Rįna/the Wayward/, last flower of Telperion (i.e. the Moon) is sailed by Tilion, one of Oromė's huntsmen with a silver bow, often resting under Telperion.

Anar the fire-golden or Vįsa, the heart of fire, last flower of Laurelin (i.e. the Sun) is sailed by Arien, spirit of fire, Maiar of Vįna, she used to take care for the golden flowers in Yavanna's gardens.

Daughter of Finarfin
August 18th,2002, 06:49 AM
Correct MirkGirl!:whoohoo: :hooray: notworthy
Now post a new question!

Mirkgirl
August 18th,2002, 07:35 AM
Sure - How many waterfalls are there on Gelion?

Dawnnamira Nerwen
October 19th,2002, 05:55 PM
Does it ever say? I only have the Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales, and Lord of The Rings. (I'm still working on my Tolkien library.)

In the Silmarillion it says this:

Gelion was a great river; and he rose in two sources and had at first two branches; Little Gelion that came from the Hill of Himring, and Greater Gelion that came from Mount Rerir. From the meeting of his arms he flowed south for forty leagues... (There's more, but I'm skipping to the end.) ... Adurant, swift and turbulent streams, falling steeply from the mountains; ...

This is all I could find mentioned about waterfalls in the Silmarillion. It doesn't mention Gelion in the Unfinished Tales, or Lord of The Rings. Does it say something about the number of waterfalls in The Histories of Middle-Earth? Or The Lost Tales? Or some other Tolkien book that I don't have? :(

Mirkgirl
October 26th,2002, 04:34 AM
Nope, it's in the same book, same chapter, just the previous paragraph
Gelion had neither falls nor rapids throughout his course
Wow this have been down for looong time, I'm good in killing quizes :(. Guess you take the next one, good work

Dawnnamira Nerwen
October 26th,2002, 06:33 PM
Me? Ask a question? Okay, since you said to...

There was a race of people, I guess you would say, living among the People of Haleth. They were good at carving wood, and were often hired as bodyguards. They were fierely devoted to whom they guarded. Who were they?
