So have any of you seen it yet? I went and saw it on opening day. I would have really liked it had it not been for the ending!

*Spoiler*

I can't believe that they killed Data off! mecry I mean.....I knew thay were going to, but I always hoped that they wouldn't. I can't belive he is gone! What is the Next Generation without Data!!???

Anyway.......other than that I liked it. Though I wonder how B4 is going to play any part in future movies (if they make any that is) He may look like Data, but he is not Data........more like a retarded Data. B4 does not take Data's place! I hope that's not what they were trying to imply there.

Anyway. I've ranted enough. What do you all think?

I didn't care about Data so much. Besides, an android isn't suposed to age, but Brent Spiner must.
I would have liked it a lot better without the first twenty minutes. That whole wedding scene was badly acted and embarrasing and the dune buggy race in the desert wasn't very high quality for a futuristic movie. But after that, the movie got pretty good. Not as good as the last three Star Trek movies, but enjoyable, none the less.

Are you even a ST fan, Miruvor?

But I agree. It could have been better. And that dune buggy chace was kind of.....out of place.

Hasn't anyone else seen this movie?

Pardon me. I didn't know you had to be a hard core fanatic to post one's personal review. I don't tend to be fanatical about much of anything. (You will never find my name in the swooning threads.) But I do think the ST series and movies have peaked and I expect it's time has come. I do like the "Enterprise" series, for the most part.

I didn't mean that you had to be a ST fan to post here. I was simply asking because I figured that a ST fan wouldn't say that about the latest movie, that's all. I meant no offense. Peace? :(

Miruvor

No problem. But I really am a ST appreciator!
But that doesn't stop me from saying it like I see it. I think the whole project is missing Roddenberry's oversight.

I must agree with you on all accounts, Miruvor--all except Data that is--ST is just not the same anymore. I feel it is dying a slow and embarrasing death. I wish it wasn't so.

I liked it, I'm just glad they're passing on the torch...I'd love to see a DS9 movie...or an Enterprise one (NO VOYAGER!).

Nemesis in one word...was AWFUL.

and yeah, they killed Data....not like he isn't going to appear in the next ST movie, they wouldn't kill of any "fake" emotion that they created with Nemesis. Nah...they couldn't.

Is it just me or is Nemesis just a re-hash of Wrath of Khan but somewhat less exciting? The comparisons are frighteningly obvious particularly at the end with the ship on ship duel and the death of a seemingly major character. Even the fact that a Data still kind of exists as he has been downloaded into B4 and so could be accessed should they ever wish to do so (although I heard Brent Spiner thought he was getting too old for the part and so would not be returning in any future films).

Sound familiar?- Bones and Spock mind-melding antics followed by subsequent re-mind-melding to download Spock back into his original body which starts of as a bit of a thicko then gradually regains the old Spockian magic??? The only difference as far as I can tell is that when B4 starts retrieveing Data's memories, instead of saying "Jim... Your name...is Jim" B4 embarrassed the entire audience by breaking into Irving Berlin songs for Pete's sake. Are we dumbing down boys and girls?

Anyway, if Spiner does decide to return to the character, don't be surprised if the next installment is called "The Search for Data" in which the attempts of a mad villain to use some kind of new weapon (sounding familiar again?) backfires and actually causes a new beginning which inadvertantly sends all of Data's bits flying back together and floating back to the Enterprise (almost as unlikely as Data flying over to the other ship in the first place) thus allowing us to see the annoying b@$tard that is B4 blown to smitherens.

Sorry. I'm just ranting now. Time to let Next Gen. go I think and concentrate on some of the newer ones like Voyager or Enterprise. (Forget Deep Sleep 9 if you please).

Ronin
January 15th,2003, 11:53 PM
yeah....and Data downloaded all of his memories to the new one.

to be honest, except for Enterprise....i just don't care anymore

I've heard Nemesis is to be the last of the Next Generation. Is that true?

I'm not surprised if it is. The cast is getting old. Even Picard has put on some pounds since the earliest ones! Too bad they killed Data... Even though B4 is still there.:(

Pinklotus
January 16th,2003, 08:23 PM
Yeah ... the cast is getting old .... especially Gates McFadden /Beverly Crusher .... she has no ereally close ups and most of the time you see her face from the side with A LOT of Har in front of her Face.

Now we know what the Word Make Up ARTIST means *ggg*

So, if you had to kill sombody, why no her ? I mean DATA was the only one who looked "normal" with a lot of Make up in his Face.

Surprisingly the Men looked good ... not "old" .... and Commander Ryker got his own Ship ... finaly ... LOL

Ronin
January 19th,2003, 05:58 PM
Data was waaaaaaaay too fleshy...sorta drew me out of the story

and captain Picard, i'm a guy....but the man is pretty sexy

Many people seem to not understand that Star Trek and Star Wars are very different. I love both in a different sort of way. Star Trek is more pure as an SF. :) Yeah... I agree Lucas has killed Star Wars. :(

Ronin
January 30th,2003, 11:24 PM
pure SF, i like that. it is odd....friend of mine had no idea there was a difference

Catz
January 30th,2003, 11:52 PM
a lot of people dont.....but then to the general public it doesnt matter either. It has space ships in it..........its SF......hell i know people who dont differentiate between SF and Fantasy.
to be honest....StarWars is really a dressed up western, complete with black hats for the baddies and white ones for the goodies........and the prequels lost that.......Star Trek(the original) on the other hand, was new and different, posing difficult questions.........and the later ones again, lost that..........maybe its just an inevitable consequence of the age of the movies/shows but Nemesis , according to may whove seen it, was creaky.......and to be honest, i really dont want to see it........all the trek movies were starting to become same old same old...........its a pity..........i just wish theyd let them bow out before theyre carried out you know?
:catz:

Wilwarin
January 31st,2003, 12:30 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean, Catz. It seems like it would have been better if they never made Nemesis in the first place!

You know, I saw that movie on opening day, and I haven't had one desire to go see it again! That really saddens me because I have been a Trek fan for almost half of my life and I really like it.

But yeah, Star Trek, may it rest in peace. (though Enterprise is kind of fun)

Miruvor
January 31st,2003, 03:02 AM
I loved the movie "Trekkies".

Well I finally found out when Nemesis is coming out in Japan. In the middle of April. *sigh* I'll never get used to waiting for any movies!
