i love hamlet and macbeth. hamlet was the first 'great book' i studied, and i still remember the effect it had on me. i dont like his comedies half so much as his tragedies, but if i had to pick a favorite it would be measure for measure. that play incorporates my favorite kind of story line, and his comic relief is brilliant

First one I read was Taming of the Shrew and I was completely confused! But I was 12! So I have been transformed and have a million favorites of his. Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet are some of my favs of his. His comedies are splendid and make me smile. ;)

I love Twelfth Night and Macbeth, though I do like Shakespeare as a whole, the only play I hate with a passion is Midsummer Night's Dream.

I enjoyed Macbeth and Othello. I'm pretty grateful to Macbeth as my literature assignment on that helped me get a A* at gcse - its was such an easy play to write about its symbolism as theres heaps of it.
Twelth Night, I think was my favourite comedy. But I generally don't like his comedies.

It's ok Lin! It's only when you're standing in the wings or backstage in a theatre that you don't ever mention the name Macbeth... you're perfectly safe in here!!
Remind me to tell you about the strange things that happened backstage at a performance i was crewing at next time we chat!!! Very spooky!!!

I would love to hear them! I don't recall too many spooky things occuring in our wings when I was performing. But we sure had alot of *ahem* kooky things happen. ;)

My favorite comedy is probably Much Ado About Nothing, my favorite tragedy is most certainly Mcbeth. A Midsummernights Dream is alright I preformed in that one and like Gatsby I was Peter Quince.

Dream is my favourite of the comedies (tho i admit it is very susceptible to naff staging) - i think it is fab. Macbeth is awesome "a tale, told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing". Truly classy verse is sonnet no. 43 "when most i wink.." shakespeare showing off and proving that he can do the metaphysical stuff at least as well as Donne.

Macbeth without a doubt is my favourite play by the Bard. It was the only play of his I could understand! I studied Macbeth for my O-level way back in 1978! Now I am giving my age away!!

I had Macbeth for GCSE as well...must be a lucky play 'cos I got a 'B' out of it.
I had to write about Lady Macbeth. It was the choice of that or *tries to remember...it was some time ago* someting to do with scenes I think...but I'm better with characters than concepts and scenes...Anyway, the Lady did me proud, and she was so easy to write about.

Sigh no more ladies sigh no more
Men were decievers ever
One foot in sea and one on shore
to one thing constant never...
Sigh not so but let them go and be you blithe and bonny, Converting all your sounds of woe,
To Hey Nonny! Nonny!

Sorry if that has any mistakes...I just typed it from memory...I haven't even looked at it in a year ;)

I really like MIdsummer's Night Dream, and Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories ever written, I haven't read Twelfth Night, but I know the basic story and am doing a scene from it for a Speech and Drama Festival. ;)

What scene is that Little Devil?
I studided Twelfth Night for my English Lit. college course, that's when I got to like it.
I kinda became Feste the 'Fool' for the duration of that time, because I was the only one who would sing his songs, I had great fun comming up with tunes for all of them lol

My favourite is Macbeth... I just like all the despair and the 'oh no lets be really negative' stuff, a bit like the Silmarillion I guess, because that gets really depressing when all the elves and edain keep dying.

Once I saw a musical of a midsummer night's dream, it was called the Dreaming and it was very moving. Has anyone else seen it?

I change my vote for Hamlet . I recently read it and you could dissect it for years. . .then I saw the Franco Zaffirelli film avec Mel Gibson. . . and it was interesting. The play was really thought-provoking. I never really had my feelings change so much about a character than a did about Hamlet. . . "To be or not to be..."

I'm playing Viola, in the scene when she realises Olivia loves her, after Malvolio gave her the ring. It's quite a good scene, I like it. ;)

My favorite work of Shakespeare's (though I haven't read them all, only Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and a Midsummer Night's Dream) would have to be MSN's D. I love Shakesperian humor, and by far, that book I found to be the funniest and the most entertaining.

MacBeth.................i always loved the concept that if MacBeth hadnt been told what he was by the witches, would he in fact have murdered his way to the throne?
its a mind bender ;).........i like that in a piece lol

my favourite is Macbeth as well - I don't like comedies! at least not Shakespearean style. I like Romeo and Juliet.

and Catz - I think that the witches did not make Macbeth act, they just sowed the seed of doubt. The person who influenced him to kill Duncan most was his wife. But that's only my opinion!

yeah but would he have done that if they hadnt planted in his mind the idea that it was fated to be?

I think it was the witches- but I'm not sure why I feel that way ;)

I adore Hamlet- such a psychologically deep play. It is so rich, every word is laden with meaning and conveys something about human nature

I really like Macbeth...right now, I'm reading King Lear, and I can't say much yet since I'm barely on the second act...

For my English class, we had this project where we got in groups and pretended that we were working on making Macbeth into a movie...it was loads of fun! We got some pretty cool versions [Japanese Macbeth, Mobster Macbeth].
