"I heard a baby crying last night. No one I knew of was supposed to have a baby. It came from near Galadriel's rooms. Do you suppose..."

"No, I don't! And you'd be better off if you left these things alone too!"

"Well, I think fighting over it is silly. Haliar, you may be right, though. Have you seen the Lady at all these past months?"

"No, I haven't as a matter of fact! Where has she been? I have only seen Celeborn."

It was late afternoon in Lorien. The sun through the leaves cast a green haze throughout the air. Insects sang sleepily among the sumer flowers in Galadriel's gardens. Three elven maidens sat in a cozy room. Haliar, a tall blonde with cool blue eyes that saw through a person's very soul, it seemed, stood at the window, gazing out at beautiful Lorien.

Megilwen sat near the fire that crackled despite the warm weather, winding balls of beautifully colored wool onto spools. Every once in a while she pushed back her silky chestnut hair from her gentle, deep brown eyes.

Melimė sat near Megilwen, pretending to read a book, but they all knew she was only posturing, and that really she was annoyed with her two friends. Her brown eyes were annoyed, her brows furrowed. Her dark brown hair fell over her face, hiding anymore emotions from coming forth. The silence was not a pleasant one. Finally, it was Melimė who broke the silence.

"You know Lady Galadriel values her privacy, especially at this time, with all these Mirkwood elves coming here to council with them."

Haliar tossed her blond hair, her fiery spirit reflecting in her words. "Well, I heard something. I tell you, something's being kept secret, and trouble will come of it sooner or later.

Ten years later..........
-------------------------------------------
"Farielle, come away from that window, you'll catch a cold!"

A small girl turned her head slightly, but did not move further. After a moment , Haliar sighed and nodded, pushing a strand of hair back from her face. Farielle turned her small head back towards the window, looking out into the night. The starlight shone faintly through the treetops. A sweet melody of song floated up to them where they were, the highest place in Lorien, from where elves walked among the trees singing, far below.

The melodies were soft and sad. Farielle always felt wistful when she heard them. Haliar smiled at her kindly from her place by the fire, which warmed the cool night air drifting into the room from the window. The breeze fluttered Farielle's honey colored hair, which danced about on the wind like a cloud. Her emerald eyes were turned skyward, although you could not see much sky. In the last nine ten years of looking after the small child, she had grown fond of her.

"Haliar, do you think mamma would ever let me go into the world? Like in that story you read me about Arcįno the Adventerous?" Haliar shook her head. "I am afraid, my darling, that your mamma will never let you leave these woods. She fears for you, especially after what happened to your sister..."

Farielle thought for a moment. Then she turned away from the window and bounced on the chair next to Haliar. "I wish I had known my sister. Was mamma ever so... overprotective of her?"

"My darling, do not worry about the past, nor the future. It is the present in which you must place your thought. Remember, you cannot change the past." Farielle nodded gravely. "I suppose that is true, though I think perhaps the past could have been prevented when it was the present, don't you think?"

Haliar laughed. "I believe you have been in your father's library again, little one. I suppose your parents will have you study lore and wisdom sooner, rather than later." Farielle smiled, lighting up her face. When she was happy, her face shone like a gem, a pure white gem.

OH, ya, silly me, I suppose i should do that! Ok, this is about 20 years before FOTR. Farielle is almost eleven right now, but I'm gonna move up a few years soon. Keep in mind, she's really young for an elf. Thanx Sauron!

The next morning dawned bright and fair, as the old time lore says. Farielle awoke at dawn to the singing of the birds. She could not sleep any longer. Bouncing from her bed, honey colored tresses flying about, she went to her wardrobe.

The gown she chose was a plain white gown with silver piping along the hem, sleeves, and neck. It was a simply made gown, but it was her mother's favorite. She also tied her delicate silver necklace around her neck, from which hung a blue-green stone. Farielle impatiently ran a brush through her long hair, then put on a dainty, white lace cap. Smiling at herself in her mirror, she tiptoed quietly from her rooms, so as not to wake Haliar, who slept in the room just down the hall, or her mother, whose room was up the steps at the end of the same hall.
----------------------------------
Once she was able to make a bit more noise, Farielle slipped her soft shoes on and ran out into the dewy morning. A few elves were here and there, smiling on the little girl as she skipped past, singing a pretty little song in Sindarin.

Farielle soon reached the last houses, and, in an adventurous mood, ran ahead into the woods.

She ran a little way, then stopped to walk. She began to sing again, and it seemed as though the birds accompanied her. Otherwise, the forest was silent, the early morning sun warming the cold ground. She was skipping along when she saw the great road that cut through a small part of the wood. Laughing, in her sweet crystal laugh, she ran to it. She reached it and stopped. A little ways down the road she could see a group of strangers traveling along on horseback.

I'll be having my SPM (Majour exam, sort of like SAT) this year though, and I've a score to settle in the Ochestra competition this year, so I don't expect to have much time even to indulge in story books, let alone anything else *sighs*

--------------------------------
Farielle caught her breath as the unknown company came closer. The leader of the group, a handsome elf with blond hair, looked down on her, smiling. Half-afraid that they might be bad, she smiled back. The leader noted with satisfaction that the girl was pretty, especially with her long honey-colored hair flowing free.

"Little Lady, might you be able to lead us to the Lord and Lady of these woods?"

Farielle nodded slowly, as if thinking. The leader asked kindly, "Do you know them, child?"

Farielle laughed. "Of course I know them, they are my mamma and papa!" The elves smiled, but did not let on that they thought she had a strong imagination. The Lady of Lorien never had a daughter, indeed.

Farielle turned and walked a little way. She stopped and looked back, waving her hand for them to follow. Walking over the path she knew so well, she forgot about the riders following her, and watched the flowers and trees on either side of the road. She always kept an eye out for her favorite flower, Sweet Majoram. Haliar had always kept a vase of them in her room when she was a baby because of the sweet smell, and so Farielle had grown to love them. They were out late this year, as she hadn't seen any, but there was time left to the spring.

Farielle turned her thoughts back to the present task. As they came to the first homes, elves stood watching in silence, and with curious eyes, as the procession went by. Farielle wondered why a patrolling group had not stopped the travelers. "Probably because I am with them," she thought.

She turned and pointed down the path further. "Go along there, and ask the elf sitting by the two sliver trees which way. He will lead you from there." She stood back and let the procession move forward. As the last horsemen passed, she noticed an elven boy about her age, perhaps a few years older, watching her with interest. Their eyes met, and she watched him until he disappeared around a bend.

As the riders turned out of sight, Farielle started running on the quickest path to her home. She had sent the others the long way on purpose, so she could tell her parents before hand.

Farielle was fast, faster than many elven boys her age. Her parents did not approve. Well, really, Galadriel did not approve. Celeborn thought fondly of his daughter and laughed happily and all she did. She was her father and brother's tiny pet, and they were amused by much of her doings.

Farielle raced up the steps to the council hall. She stopped at the door, resisting the urge to burst through to see the silver doors swing back and forth, but calmly and quietly pushed them open. Her father was disscussing some matter which Farielle supposed was importent, with two other elves she knew well, Eruanno and Tśro. She smiled at them as she stood off to the side behind Celeborn, waiting for him to finish.

He soon did. He turned and smiled. "Yes, Minjonet, what is it?"
"Father, riders have come. They are elves seeking your council, and they will be here in a matter of moments."

Celeborn thought for a moment. "Go get your brother, Celebrian, and your mother. And you, change out of that muddy outfit. You resemble a small mudpuddle child."

Farielle laughed and skipped off down the hall. She saw Celebrian first. "Hello Miss Sunshine," he joked at her smile. "What's the news?"

"Father says to go to the hall."

"Alright, I'll see you there then?"

"I suppose..."

Farielle ran off to find her mother.
----------------------------------------
Galadriel sat by the fire in one of her rooms, reading happily. Farielle smiled and entered quietly.

"Mama..."

Galadriel looked up. "Yes, sweet? What is it?" Her blue eyes were happy. Farielle had always wanted to inherit her mother's pretty blue eyes that could heal the all the hurt and trouble in a heart. She was sadly devastated that hers were green, even though they sparkled in a way her mother's did not.

"Papa says to go to the hall. Riders are coming to council. Elves. I met them in the woods, and sent them the long way, so they should be arriving in a few minutes."

"Farielle, you know you shouldn't have been in the woods by yourself..."

Farielle frowned at the reprimand. Galadriel sighed and smiled.

"Of course, my free spirit, thank you. Now, go and..."

"I know, change."

"That's a good girl. And hurry love, or you'll be late..."

Galadriel called that last remark to an already retreating figure.
In her rooms, Farielle threw on her blue dress with sleeves made of a floaty material. Over her quickly brushed and braided hair went a silver band that showed her heritage and position, or so mama said anyway. Farielle just thought it looked nice. Once she was satisfied, she flew down the hall to the council room.

Lucky for her the riders had not arrived yet. Celeborn took Galadriel's arm and led her to the silver doors, which led to the great steps where all visitors were recieved. Celebrian made an exaggerated bow and offered Farielle his arm. Giggling, she held her head higher than normal and put on a "better-than" face, as she called it. They continued this until they reached the doors, quickly stopping when their parents turned around.

Celeborn quickly instructed them on what to do. "Stay at the top of the stairs, and wait until the last one among them is past, then follow. You know what to do, I daresay."

They waited outside the doors, and watched as the riders came into view. As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Galadriel and Celeborn descended to meet them. There were exchanged words which Farielle and Celebrian couldn't hear. Then the procession came back up up the steps. Farielle and Celebrian stood on either side of the doors, as instructed, until the riders passed. Then, they quietly followed inside and took their places. Farielle stood off to the side behind their mother, and Celebrian did the same to their father.

As the riders were seated at the long table, the blond elf who had been the leader rose.

"I am Nostė of the realm of Mirkwood. We come to council with you, Celeborn and Galadriel, of a pressing matter." The rider glanced at Farielle and Celebrian. Galadriel quickly whispered in Farielle's ear, "You and your brother go out to the gardens and behave."

As Farielle started to leave the hall she saw an elf she recognized among the company, Legolas. He leaned over to the boy Farielle had seen earlier, and after a moment, the boy got up and left the hall with Farielle and Celebrian. The silver doors swung shut, silencing the conversation to their ears.

Farielle sighed, rolling her eyes. "I wish they wouldn't do that..." Farielle sighed. She turned to the new boy.

"Mama always said proper introductions were necessary." she smiled. "I am Farielle of the realm of Lorien, daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel."

"Thalion son of Legolas of Mirkwood." Thalion answered before looking Farielle over carefully. "So it's true."

"What's true?"

"You being Galadriel's daughter and all. You didn't make it up?"

Farielle's smile disappeared. "I never make things up."

"How was I to know that? How old are you, anyway?"

"I'm turning eleven in three days. You?"

"I'm thirteen."

"I'm going riding. Do you want to come?"

Without waiting for an answer, she ran off towards the stables, with Thalion following. The shortest path would only take ten minutes, but, wanting to challenge him, she went off track through the trees. Thalion had no choice but to follow her through.

Elven Daughter

Farielle raced through the woods, reaching the stables first. She leaned against the wall, waiting for Thalion. After a few moments, when he did not come, she walked into the woods a way.

"Thalion?"

No answer.

"Thalion?"

Suddenly something knocked her to the ground, laughing. She pushed her hair out of her eyes and leapt to her feet. Thalion stood there, looking pleased with himself, laughing.

Farielle laughed, but in the blink of an eye tossed a rock at his head, hitting him lightly. "That was for being so... so..."

Thalion laughed harder, rubbing his forehead. "I beat you, admit it. Go on then..."

Farielle shook her head. "Oh fine. Are you quite finished?" she asked, annoyed by his laughter. "Come on, I have the perfect horse for you."

Together they went into the stables.

((This post jumps time from when Farielle is almost eleven to 15 years later, right after her 26th birthday. It's 5 years from FOTR))
--------------------------------------------------------
As they two elven children found their horses and rode out, their laughter brought light to the hearts of those who listened. Here in the midst of looming fate and trouble, they shone like stars. Children have the gift of being happy in any place, for time is kind to them, and they forget sorrow and forgive pain more easily than others.

Farielle rode out of the wood side by side with Thalion, their talk and laughter echoing merrily among the trees. Their horses were spirited, eager to reache the plains beyond. In no time at all, it seemed, the beautiful plains and meadows opened in front of them. At the edge of the wood they stopped, looking out. The sun shone down brightly, birds sang as they sat in the forest's trees and swooped among the grasses. The lazy hum of insects made the day a sleepy one.

Both children sat in silence for a moment. Farielle was the first to move. Laughing, she spurred Vanima, her favorite horse, and rode out into the sunshine, flying over the ground, racing the wind. Her hair flew out behind her, shimmering in the sun. Thalion rode at her side, yelling happily. They raced to and fro like butterflies.

As they reached the gently rolling hills, Farielle left Thalion far behind. Vanima nearly danced up the hill, glad to be out in the wind and sun. Farielle closed her eyes and let the sun soak into her.
--------------------------------------
(Fifteen years later...)

Farielle opened her eyes after basking for a moment in the warm sun. The child who had come here, and also ceased to come here over the long years had now returned. But a child no longer. In the small girl's place was a beautiful young woman with sad green eyes and long honey colored hair, almost as fair as her mother. She had grown from being the pet to the pride of Lorien. But as ever her existence was unkown to many. Her mother still feared her safety in the world of men, and even elves.

Farielle sat silently on Vanima, looking out over the horizon, watching for the riders who could appear any moment. Her keen eyes searched the plain, their emerald color sparkling in excitement. A light breeze fluttered her hair around her face, toying with the hem of her gown. Impatiently, she brushed her hair back.

As she was about to turn back for Lorien, she spotted a group of riders in the distance. As far away as they were, she knew they were elves. She smiled, her face glowing with happiness. Rarely these days did she smile. Most of her time was spent worrying, pacing the halls, her mind filled with memories, and only some were about him. Many woke her from her sleep, nightmares and demons that haunted her. But today, at least, they were gone from mind. Thalion was coming. She hadn't seen him for ten years.

As the riders came closer, she saw him leading the group. He was grown now, as was she, and more handsome than anyone in Lorien, she was sure. He had returned, just as he had promised. Thalion was here...

Elven Daughter

Farielle's smile dimmed as she tried to sit silently, knowing that it was dignified. After a moment's struggle within herself, she resisted no longer. Riding quickly down the small hill from where she had kept watch, she soon met Thalion's group. Swinging down from their horses, they embraced.

Without her knowing it, tears began to stream down Farielle's face. She never cried, but she did now as she was held at arms length by Thalion. Amazingly, she did not even notice the astonishment he could not hide from his eyes. He had left a girl of 16 behind him, and had returned to find that she was gone forever, replaced by this sorrowful woman of 26.

"My dear Lady, you have a sorrow upon you meant for someone with many more winters. What bothers you, my friend?" Thalion asked tenderly, wiping tears from her cheeks.

Farielle sighed quietly, turning away. "I cry from happiness, my friend. I have not seen you in ten long years. Thalion, I missed you..." she broke off, still not making eye contact with him. Gently, he turned her face towards him.

"There are things you cannot hide from anyone, Farielle, and then there are things you cannot hide from elves. Minjonet..."

He reached for her hand, but she shrank back from his touch as well as from hearing her pet name from his lips. "The hour grows late, I beg you, ride with me to the House of Celeborn and Galadriel, where friends such as yourself are always welcome." Farielle put no feeling into the statement, leaving the cold words alone with no warmth to them. As she swung up on Vanima, Thalion sighed. She had been his best friend for years, and he had never remembered her like this. She had been warm and happy, full of laughter. Now, when he felt the need to have more than just her friendship, he found, instead of his friend, a heartbroken, haunted woman.

As he followed Farielle, he noticed that she rode sidesaddle, like a lady. Thalion shook his head and sped up so he was even with her. Leaning over, he said quietly, "They have taken my free spirit and molded her into something unrecognizable. I am sorry, for I miss the girl you once were."

Farielle turned her face towards him, but it was blank, as if she had been stunned, tears falling silently. "I am sorry, I didn't mean..." Thalion began, but Farielle stopped him. "No, it's not your fault, I was just remembering..."
-------------------------------------------------------
Farielle felt like a puppet. Every moment of the day she had to be proper, like a lady, as was expected of her. The 13 year old felt like screaming sometimes.

"Mother, why do I have to be a Lady..." she had sobbed one night while her mother brushed out her long hair. "I can't take it..." Galadriel had looked at her daughter with those piercing eyes. "Minjonet, I love you, but I don't understand you sometimes. You are different from your sister in more ways than one. She liked being elegant..."

"Im not my sister!" Farielle had sobbed later in her room. "Why can't anyone see that???"
-----------------------------------------------------
"Remembering what?" Thalion asked.

Farielle looked away quickly. "It's nothing..."

Elven Daughter
December 27th,2002, 05:28 AM
The moon shone through the trees brightly at this time of year, lighting the halls of Lorien so that they needed no flame. Farielle stood at a great window looking out upon Lorien.

Her hair was braided and twisted atop her head. She wore a sleeping gown of floatly blue material that flowed around her like water as she moved. In the moonlight streaming through the open window, her pale skin caught a glow, her eyes glittered as two tear drops fell from them.

"Farielle?" a soft voice called.

Farielle turned quickly, wiping her eyes. A pretty elf appeared out of the shadows, her brown hair falling about her face. Her name was Renell, a name her parents had gotten from the world of men, not elves. She was two years older than Farielle, and was also her best friend.

Renell carefully sat beside Farielle. "Love, what is the matter. For the past few months something has been bothering you. You won't eat, you won't rest. Farielle, please, tell me what is the matter..."

Farielle had held back for so long that suddenly, she fell to the floor sobbing, her head in her hands, rocking back and forth. Renell put her arms around her. "Shhhh, it will be alright." Farielle felt as though she would cry forever.

But soon it was over. After Farielle quieted, she wiped her eyes and looked hard at Renell. "Renell, I'm afraid. I'm so afraid."

"Of what, Lady?"

"Of my prison. Everyday I am forced to live my life in a way I hate, never go anywhere unescorted. I will never be free to live my life. I am scared I will never find someone I love dearly. I'm scared to live, scared to die."

"Dearest, you musn't talk so. Of course you feel like you're trapped. Your parents never let you leave sight of Lorien. You know why, don't you. Your sister..."
------------------------------------------------
"Mamma, why can't I ever leave Lorien?" Farielle had asked many times when she was very young. Her mother had never fully answered until she was nine.

"Sweet, do you remember me telling you about how you had a sister? Many years ago, she was... she was killed. By orcs. The world is a dangerous place love. And more would be willing to kill you because they want to get to your father and me."

Farielle hadn't understood at the time what that had meant, but as she grew older she learned that because of her sister's death, she was forced to live in a cage.
------------------------------------------------
"Farielle?" Renell's voice echoed through her head. "You know what I think? I think you should ask Lady Galadriel if you could leave and study at Rivendell. I would love to go with you as well. Elrond is a wonderful teacher they say, and you would be safe there."

Farielle thought of leaving Lorien behind, and smiled, hugging Renell. "You have saved me from sorrow. I will ask, and you shall be in my personal escort."

They embraced. Renell smiled mischeviously. "Now, you know what I want to know about..."

"What?"

"About Thalion. Has he changed much? What does he look like? When can I meet him?"

Farielle was truly happy for the first time in many years as Renell's chatter filled the silence which she had come to hate so much.

As the sun rose, the rosy light found Farielle resting in her bedchamber. Although the tears were gone, the memories were not...
------------------------------------------
An elf had come to Lorien many years ago under a full moon. He claimed to be able to see the shadows of the future. Farielle, a perceptive fourteen year old, had found no lie or deciet in him, and had told her parents so. She had found nothing but memory, much like herself.

The man took one look at Farielle, then turned, closing his eyes. He both knew who she was, and a terrible secret of her future. Farielle wanted to know that secret, but was not permitted in the council hall that night. But as she passed by, reading a thick volume written in Sindarin, she was forced to stop by something she had heard.

"The child will be deadly wounded in a battle not far from Minas Tirith. She will die, unless the daughter of two children of kings will leave the battle with her, which will be hard to do, for the maiden will be both angry and driven by a need to do good. But she must leave the battle..."

"Who is this child? Is she elven?"

"No. I know not her name, but I see Lord Faramir and Lady Eowyn together as one."

"But what would make a maiden of Rohan marry a man from Gondor? The two countries have been angry with each other for years, and something will come of it, I tell you this." Celeborn's voice asked, raising a little

Farielle had not waited to hear more, but fled to her chamber, and thrown hersef on her bed, thinking long into the night.
----------------------------------------------
As the last light of rose turned golden on her windowsill, Farielle tunred over on her bed, wanting to leave old memories behind, and set her mind to the task ahead of her, asking her parents to be allowed to study in Imladris.

Farielle rose somewhat reluctantly and went to her wardrobe. She had always tried to dress according to her mood, but today there were so many emotions in her. She ended up choosing a pale green gown. As she fastened her lightweight gold and silver wrought belt, which matched the embroidery on this and many of her other dresses, she gazed in the mirror. She stepped back and sat before a small table that also had a small mirror, fixing her hair.

After an hour of braiding and twisting her hair, she finally decided to braid her hair in one long braid and wrap it around her head. When she finished, she studied the hairstyle from a moment before fastening her silver browband across her forehead and giving herself a final glance in her mirror.

Rising, she went to her door, but had barely reached it when someone knocked, stratling her. After a second to calm herself, she quickly went to the door, pulling it open.

"Good morning, Lady." Thalion's ready smile was contagious. Farielle felt herself smiling too. "I came to ask you a bit of a favor, Lady."

Farielle nodded, waiting for him to say more.

"I was wondering if you'd like to take a walk with me in the gardens."

Farielle smiled wider, nodding. She felt the need to talk with him, especially after yesterday. He was one of her best friends, and he would understand. She went to her wardrobe, pulling out a light, midnight blue elvish cloak. Pulling it on, she and Thalion walked down the steps in the early morning light, still to weak to banish the slight chill in the air.

As they walked the familiar paths through the gardens, Thalion truly felt at home. Mostly they walked in silence, saying only a few words if any at all, but it was a friendly silence. He was happy just like this.

They reached a small stream, and here they stopped. After a moment's silence, with only the birds songs in the air, Thalion turned to Farielle. "Do you remember what I said to you when I left Lothlorien, ten years ago?"

"I do. You said not a day would go by without you thinking of me. You said you knew I would miss you almost as much as you would miss me." Farielle lowered her eyes.

"And did you?"

"I missed you every day, every minute, every second. You are my best friend."

Thalion was torn between her answer. Both happy and disparing, both lightened and burdened. He lifted her face so her could see her eyes. They were unsure, afraid. But there was somthing else there too.

"Minjonet, why do you hold back from everything you dream of? That is not like the girl I once knew. I would give you the world Farielle, you know this."

She did know it, deep inside her heart. But she had to keep her feelings hidden. She couldn't let him see how much she loved him. Things would never be the same once he did. "May the Valar give me strength..." she thought.

Thalion saw the struggle within her. "Farielle, love, please..." Farielle turned, but he held her from leaving. At that moment she knew he knew the struggle within her. And she cursed herself.

"Thalion, please, nothing will ever be the same, I..."

"No, it can be better. I love you Farielle, do you not love me?"

At that moment, Farielle knew that she could pretend no longer. "I have loved you since I met you, and it kills me a little bit each day. Please..."

She never finished, for Thalion had taken her in his arms and kissed her. For the first time in ten years, the memories did not haunt her, or even enter her thoughts.

The sun seemed to set too soon that day. As the light disappeared, Farielle was pacing outside of her mother and father's sitting room, trying to get up enough courage to go inside. After a few deep breaths, she smoothed her dress and lightly knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Farielle came in slowly, carefully shutting the door behind her. Her mother was sitting at a small table drinking a small cup of elvish tea. Her father stood by the fireplace, his hands behind his back, thinking. Farielle's courage quavered a bit. "Mother, Father?"

They looked to her, and Celeborn nodded for her to continue. "I was walking the halls a bit last night, and..." Galadriel knew how often her daughter did this and why. She quickly was up at Farielle's side. "Dear, please sit." Farielle sat in a soft chair, ad looked up to her father. He nodded again.

"I was walking last night when I came across Renell. She and I talked, and she told me what she would like to do more than anything is to study at Rivendell under Lord Elrond. As I thought the matter over, I knew that I should like to study at Rivendell too. I believe it would be good for me." At the look on her mother's face she added, "And I would be perfectly safe there, you know."

Celeborn had turned back to the fire, silent for a moment. Galadriel shook her head, tears coming to her eyes. "Long have I feared this day would come, the day you would wish to leave us. Farielle, the world is full of dangers and peril. The time of elves is soon to be ended. When that time is gone, where will you be safe? No where, love." Celeborn turned back and took his wife's hand. He smiled at Farielle, and dismissed her. She quickly left the room. But voices still floated after her.

"I won't let her go, she'll be killed just like her sister. No, I fear her safety too much."

"But we cannot keep her locked her. She has too much spirit, and would run without consent if we tried. No, let her go to Rivendell, she is right, she would be safe there. And it would be good, to be with others out from under our wing, to learn about life. My lady, she is already learning of love. Her mind must be taught a good many things she would never learn here."

"But why Rivendell. Why can we not teach her here?"

"Here she is distracted. You know by which things I mean..."

There was a heavy silence. Then, Galadriel spoke, her sadness coming through her words.

"If my Lord wishes, she will go..."

Farielle smiled, and fairly skipped down the hall. One chapter of her life was over, and a new one was about to begin.

Thanx Pil and Lalaith!
-------------------------------------
Farielle closed her eyes and breathed deep of the wind blowing on her face. Vanima pranced along merrily, though the day was overcast and gray. The wind blew strongly, but not harshly, and it made the small company of elves feel alive.

Farielle rode alongside Renell, for, true to her promise, Renell was accompanying her to Imladris to study. There were only three others. Thalion, who rode quietly, pondering some trouble or some such matter, One of Thalion's company, and merry elf with blue eyes named Lairo, and Celebrian, Farielle's brother, who would accompany them only halfway, then turn on a different path.

Thalion glanced briefly at Farielle. It was amazing. Now the cares and sorrow had dropped from her face, making her look but a child of twenty, if even that. He looked away, but Farielle did not notice. She was busy in conversation with her brother.

"Have you ever been there? To Rivendell, I mean."

"Of course. It is beautiful beyond anything you can imagine, and I do believe you will find happiness there, Minjonet, as all elves do in Lord Elrond's company."

Farielle laughed. "I do not believe anywhere in the world could be as beautiful as my Lothlorien. It is my home, first and forever. How could I even think of loving any other place as much?"

"Of course, Minjonet, you could not. But do not close your heart to all other places and their own special beauty, for there is much you will see that can touch you."

Farielle laughed again. "Celebrian, my dearest older brother. How can you be so serious when I cannot contain my happiness?"

"Because I have not been in a cage for twenty-six years, little sister. And you have. That is enough cause for you and for many such as yourself to dispair. But now you are free."

The company continued onward. As Farielle gazed over the rolling grassy hills, she was happy. The gray clouds brought, oddly enough, a happy memory.
---------------------------------------
"Farielle, please concentrate. How will you ever hit your mark if you are gazing at the sky."

"Haldir, don't be cross with me. It's just that it looks like rain is all. I am sorry."

Farielle drew back her bowstring, aiming at the target across the field. "Concentrate, concentrate..."

The arrow flew, hitting the mark squarely. Haldir nodded in satisfaction. "You are a good marksmen, Farielle. I think you will make a satisfactory archer."
----------------------------------------
Farielle turned suddenly. "Celebrian, how far is it to Imladris?"

"I should think about a fortnight with the path that we will travel. We will take the mountain path, but we must travel north a ways first, sister."

Elven Daughter
January 1st,2003, 09:36 PM
The small company of elves moved swiftly over the path to Rivendell. Somewhere in the midst of the Misty Mountains, Celebrian turned on his own course. Farielle had sat silently, watching him fly away over the rough mountain path on his white horse. He reached a ridge not far away, and turned back for a moment, waving once. Farielle had waved back, calling to him.

"Tenna' ento lye omenta, Quel fara!"* Her voice echoed through through the mountains. Celebrian had not called back, but she knew he had heard her.
---------------------------------------
Late one afternoon, a week after Celebrian had left, Thalion announced that they would ride through the night, for Rivendell was less then half a day away. The elves rested quietly for an hour, strength returning to their bodies.

After a while, Farielle and Renell stood, mounting their horses. Thalion and Lairo followed after a moment. The sun had set already, and the night was chill, for the winds swept the earth. They rode quietly through the valley, expecting any moment to see the light of Imladris.

As the sun rose on the valley, golden and orange, Farielle lifted her face to the warm rays, smiling. She opened her eyes, and suddenly she saw it. In the early morning mist, she could not make out great detail, but it was enough.

"Thalion, En. Amin utue ta!" *

Laughing, the company rode quickly. Before the sun had fully left the horizon, they reached the bridge. Thalion led them over, followed directly by Farielle. In the early light, only a few elves were about. Dressed in beautiful greens and blues, many wearing elven cloaks, they walked about. Farielle felt at home already, but remembered what her mother had said.

"You will tell no one your true identity, save Lord Elrond, for he knows you are coming. Go by the name Hathelwen daughter of Beiniel. Please, for me..."

As they rode into Rivendell, many elves looked on curiously. There were always visitors, but there was something about this small company that was different. They certainly were elves, but they seemed almost noble.

Farielle dismounted along with the others, and their horses were lead away. Farielle and Renell linked arms, nervousnes building in them. They followed Thalion, their eyes on the ground. A voice made them glance up.

"Welcome to Rivendell. I am Lord Elrond."
------------------------------------------
*Until we next meet, good hunting!

--------------------------------------
Farielle stole through the shadows in the cool moonlight like a wisp of a cloud. She moved silently. Her hair floated loose over her shoulders, falling gracefully and swirling around her with every turn. Her silk gown was the color of the moonshine spilt on the floor, shimmering when she stepped in and out of the light. The gown was tight fitting in the waist, but the skirt swirled around her like a mist, the train whispering almost silently after her. The sleeves were like the skirt, and were cut down the sides, tied at various points, so her pale arms were slightly visible.

She found herself outside on a terrace. She looked up and gasped in awe. For the first time in her life, she was truly looking at, what seemed to her, the entire diamond crusted blanket called the sky. She could see more here than she ever could at home in Lorien. The beauty of it took her breath away. She was so preoccupied that she did not notice Lord Elrond come out behind her.

"They are beautiful, aren't they?" he asked quietly, glancing upwards. "I believe, Lady Hathelwen, that you are keeping something."

Farielle looked away. "My mother told me to tell no one but you. My name is not Hathelwen, but Farielle. I am the daughter of the Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn."

Elrond nodded, studying her face, seeing the strong resemblence of Farielle to her mother, and the slight one to her father. "So, the mysterious maiden of Lothlorien has come to us at last. Your brother Celebrian has told me of you, and bid me to keep it secret. And secret I shall. Come, my Lady. I think you would enjoy a little company. Your friend Renell is already in the Hall. You would do good to join her."

Before Farielle could object, Elrond had sent her on her way. He stood gazing after her. "We can't keep you a secret forever, young one, no matter what your mother may bid. Soon, I think, you will be brought into the sunshine which you shame with your own light..."

Elven Daughter

As Farielle entered the firelit hall, song filled her mind. A sad song about the heros of days of old, when men were still strong, and the time of the elves at it's height. The songs roling notes reminded her of riding through the plains just outside of Lorien, when the sun shone just so, and the birds sang, and butterflies...

"My lady, why do you stand all alone? Come, join us by the fire!" The merry voice broke her thoughts, but she was not unhappy. Smiling, she took the arm he offered her and walked through the hall. She saw Renell sitting among a group of young elves near the fire where they were headed. Smiling, she said softly,
"Renell, love, I see you are enjoying yourself more so here than at home..."

Renell looked up and laughed, pulling Farielle down to sit beside her. She glanced around at the smiles on the other's faces.

"So, another Lorien elf. Tell me, lady, what is your name?"

"I am Lady Hathelwen. By any chance would you give me yours?"

And so the merry exchange of names and information about themselves was started. They soon found many similarities, and also, a few pleasant differences.

"Lady Hathelwen, do you sing, by any chance."

Farielle smiled, blushing a bit. She only sang for herself, and she thought herslef to be fair at it, but she didn't know if they would think so. Summoning her courage, she nodded. "I do what I can. I know a piece, actually, you will not have heard before."

The circle of elves got quiet, waiting for her to begin. She whispered to Renell. "You know the melody they sang the night we left. Sing the harmony for me, please?" Renell nodded, and Farielle began.

The song started with a sweet simple melody, but the music got more complicated as it went. The song was about the glory days of Lorien, and of Galadriel and Celeborn. Farielle sang as she never had before, and Renell's harmony added a simple sweetness to the song, making it both charming and mysterious at the same time.

As they finished, many elves clapped, laughing.

"My dear lady, you did not tell me that your beautiful voice rivaled your beautiful face..." A gay voice said outside the circle. Farielle stood to see who, though she knew at once.

"Thalion, your tounge must be made of mithril. You charm so easily." Laughing, she stepped out of the firelight to meet him, greeting him with a kiss. "I was enjoying myself, actually. Please, join us. They seem to like me, and they like Renell, I know they would love you."

"How could they not love you, Minjonet, for your voice alone is enough to charm them."

Farielle laughed. "I never really considered myself to be that good, but I must have inherited the gift from my mother, like so many things. But enough, please, join us..."

Farielle led him back to the fire, forgetting for a few sweet hours who she was, and lived in bliss ignorance of the troubles going on in the outside world.

As the sun rose the next morning, Farielle slipped out of her chamber silently, running lightly out to a garden. She walked the path, looking about her in happiness. Thinking back over the past two months, she realized with a start that she was much better off. How did that sorrowful woman become this joyful girl so fast? She smiled and thanked whomever was listening for the joyful hearts of elves, and their ability to mend quickly, even after great sorrow.

She looked up to realize that she had gone in a circle, and that the sun had fully risen. She approached the still quiet house, and slipped back to her chamber.

She did not feel like elegance today, but wished for simplicity. She chose her simple blue gown. Even though it was made of silk, she never felt to dressed up in it, but comfortable. Smiling, she braided her hair quickly. When she had finished, she made her way towards the library.

It was amazing, she thought, that she was able to find her way so easily about. But Rivendell had felt like home as soon as she stepped foot inside. She peeked inside, and found to her relief that no one was there. Slipping inside, she closed the door softly behind her. She glanced around in approval. The library was at least twice as big as her father's. The tall shelves of books were neat and inviting. She walked along, glancing at the titles, when she saw a small red book, written in a tounge she had not heard before. Taking the book down, she flipped through it.

"This is a language I should like to learn..." she murmured to herself.

"Well then, I can teach you all you want to know about it, my Lady."

Spinning around, Farielle saw that Elrond had just entered. She nodded.

"What else can you teach me? I would love to learn all I could. Tell me, can you teach me the lore of Middle Earth? From what I have read in my father's study, it was so interesting."

"My Lady Farielle, I can teach you many things. I am glad you are an eager student. You will learn much inside the walls of Rivendell. Come, let us begin now, for I feel I will only have a short time with you..."

They left the library, already deep in discussion.

In this section I introduce a character named Nīndorien. All credit for this character and her background goes to Lalaith. Thanx!!!
---------------------------------------------
Farielle and Elrond's conversation soon turned to the races of Middle Earth.

"And what, Lady Farielle, do you know of the race of men. I would assume you have not met many."

"Indeed, I have met few, so perhaps I am wrong in saying this, but after all I have read and heard, I do not trust men. I fear they are a weak race, and will cause more destruction than they have already to Middle Earth. Correct me if I am wrong, but Isildur had a chance to destry the ring of power, yes?"

Elrond nodded, but said nothing, so Farielle comntinued.

"My mother tells me that their hearts are impure, that they are so easily corrupted. In truth, My Lord, I fear them."

Elrond turned to her. "You are not alone in this judgement, I fear, for many elves see things in this light. But I would warn you, young one. Do not believe all you hear, for men are not all weak. In fact, one of the line of Isildur, a man, has a pure heart that would not be so easily corrupted."

"Of whom do you speak? May I meet him?"

Elrond closed his eyes and sighed before opening them.

"While he used to live here, he has taken to the life of a Ranger, forever wandering in the wilds."

"My Lord..." A new voice interrupted their conversation.

Farielle turned to see who the newcomer was. It was a pretty elf-maiden. She smiled quickly before turning to Elrond.

"My Lord, is there any news of your sons?"

"Not since yesterday, Nīndorien. I will inform you if I do hear even the slightest bit of news."

Nīndorien nodded, then turned to Farielle. "You are new to Rivendell, My Lady. Pray, tell me your name."

"I am Lady Fa... Hathelwen." Farielle chided herself in her head.

Nīndorien gave her an odd look, but said nothing about Farielle's mistake. She looked at her closely.

"You look so familiar, yet I cannot place you with a memory."

"No, you would not be able to. I grew up in Lorien. And truly, I am but a child in the eyes of elves. I am only 26, lady Nīndorien."

That gained another curious look from Nīndorien.

Elrond took hold of Farielle's arm. "I believe, my Lady, that we must continue our disscussion at another time. Come, I will lead you back to the library."

"Lord Elrond, I will take her, it is no trouble."

Farielle nodded in consent to Elrond's unasked question.

"I will go with Lady Nīndorien, my Lord. Thank you for your company this fine morning. I pray we meet again very soon to continue."

As Farielle and Nīndorien walked back to the library in silence, Farielle was too distracted to notice Nīndorien's sideways glances at her, as if she was a puzzle that she was trying to put together. When they reached their destination, Nīndorien looked at her curiously. Finally, she asked what Farielle knew she would.

"What is your true name, My Lady? Why do you hide it?"

Farielle looked about to make sure no one was listening. Then she whispered only loud enough for Nīndorien to hear,

"I am Lady Farielle, daughter of the Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn."

Nīndorien stepped back a moment and looked Farielle over sternly, not saying a word, but her feelings rushed through Farielle herself. Amazingly, mistrust wasn't there, only interest and curiosity.

"Why must you keep your name a secret?" she asked at long last. "no one within the walls of Rivendell would dare lay a finger on you. No, many would not even feel the need to try."

"My mother bids it. When my sister was killed..."

"Your sister?"

"Yes, Arwen's mother. She was killed, and my mother has always been protective of me, perhaps beyond my limits."

"Well, Lady Farielle, or should I say, Hathelwen, if you want me to keep this a secret, I will indeed."

"Thank you, Lady Nīndorien. I am eternally thankful for your silence. Perhaps the day will come when I will not fear death or pain, but today I am but an elfling, a child, and I do fear..."

"To be totally fearless is not always a good thing, Hathelwen. Fear can open your eyes to reality. But come, we will not talk of such dark things today."

"Nīndorien, I mean no disrespect, but Elrohir and Elladan, who are they?"

"They are the sons of Lord Elrond, brothers to Arwen, of course, and, I do believe, your nephews."

Farielle smiled wanly at this. "I feel priveleged to have so many elves who have many centuries of life when I have only two and a half decades. But I fear that they would not like to be under a child of so few years, and so little experience with life."

"My Lady Farielle, you do truly understand the way many people's minds work. But your family is not like that. I know because they are some of my closest friends."

Farielle glanced at the sun in the sky, which was directly overhead. "Nīndorien, I thank you for the pleasure of your company and council. But now I fear I must retire to my room. I grow weary."

Farielle smiled, her face glowing like a gem. She nodded and slipped away down the hall, silently. She nedded the solitude of her chamber to think about the day's happenings thus far.

Dark clouds rolled across the sky, covering the valley in shadow. A storm loomed on the horizon. The day that had only a few moments ago been warm and brilliantly sunny was now cold and dark. A chill wind blew swiftly through the house, it's speed flickering flames and fluttering papers. The storm rolled closer.

The shadow crept into the room where Farielle sat on the wide stone windowsill which overlooked a small waterfall, which was so close to the window that Farielle could have dipped her feet in the rushing water. But she saw and heard none of this. The ever-strengthening wind fanned through the room, extinguishing her candles with one breath, plunging the room into a state of gray shadow, dark and dreary.

The chill wind dragged at Farielle's dress and hair, trying it's hardest to drag her along like a mere peice if paper. But she felt not the freezing chill, nor the cold rain that began splashing down on the windowsill, soaking her.

Farielle was too deep in thought. Her minds wandering the elven paths of her home. Faces flashed across her mind, but she never fully comprended who they were, simply that they were...

As the rain began to pour in freezing torrents, Renell was froced to run inside from where she had been in the gardens. The elvish cloak under which she had taken shelter had not stopped the wetness from soaking through. When she threw off her cloak under a small alcove where she had stopped to rest, water ran off her in heavy streams, into her face, and all through her clothing. She knew Farielle's room was near.

Taking a deep breath, she ran out again into the blinding rain. In moments, she had reached the dark hallway where Farielle's room was. In that short time, she had gotten twice as wet as before, if at all possible. Dripping from every inch of her body, she splashed down the desterted, dark hallway, and gently pushed open Farielle's door.

For a moment she could see nothing. Then, she saw the papers fluttering around the room on the chill, damp wind. For an instant she thought Farielle was not there, but then she saw her at the window, every bit as wet as she, but staring off somewhere, not even noticing. Concerned, she went to her side and touched her shoulder.
--------------------------------------
Farielle jerked out of her deep daydream with a start to see Renell there. She was freezing, and when she looked down she knew why. She was sitting on her window ledge, and the rain was pouring down to equal the many waterfalls of Rivedell. Laughing out loud, she and Renell tried in vain to shake off some of the wetness that clung to them.

Soon they decided that it would never work, and that they best go to the comfortable halls and sit near a fire to warm themselves. Farielle drew her cloak out from her wardrobe, and wrapped it around the both of them.

They made their way through the halls. At one point near the hall they were forced to cross an abandoned courtyard. Finally, they pushed open the doors of the hall, dripping and shivering. The doors swung shut behind them, stopping the short burst of wind that had flickered the flames burning in the large hall.

Everyone looked up, and in an instant, three female elves were there at their sides, helping them dry off a tiny bit, and leading them to the fire. Even the short run had left them exhausted, for they had had to fight the wind much of the way. Sitting down, Farielle thanked the others many times before falling silent and staring at the fire, the warmth creeping slowly back into her body. Her simple dress clung to her, and her wet hair dripped in her face, but soon she and Renell had been well wrapped in dry blankets.

Farielle took notice of little until she felt a warm hand on her shoulder. Turning she saw that it was an elf she had never seen before. His eyes were warm and merry, and when he spoke she was forced to smile, despite her unhappy mood.

"My dear lady, I fear you have picked unsuitable weather for wandering about out of doors."

Farielle laughed, a pretty crystal sound that seemed almost to harmonize with the singing in the hall. "My lord, I was truly not outside, but at my window... daydreaming." she added a little reluctantly. "The rain, it seems, has a way of sneaking up on a poor soul. In truth, I have never seen such rain before. It never rained this hard in the forest, except near the tops of the trees."

"And pray, where are you from, my lady?"

"From the realm of Lorien, my Lord."

"Please, little one, call me Glorfindel..."

Short short bit here. PC problems.

Farielle stood in surprise. Her eyes widened.

"Lord Glorfindel! I am honored just ot be in your presence! My mother told me stories of your brave deeds when I was a small elfling, not so very long ago!" Farielle's face lit like the sun as she smiled.

Glorfindel smiled too. "The pleasure is all mine Lady. I have only the deepest respect for Lorien folk. Tell me Lady, what is your name?"

Farielle almost forgot herself, catching the name that nearly rolled of her tounge. She composed herself quickly. "I am Lady Hathelwen, My Lord."

Farielle's eyes met Glorfindel's. As he held her glance, she knew that he didn't believe her. He knew she was telling a falsehood, but she felt that he knew the reason why. But surely, she reassured herself, he cannot know the whole truth.

She quickly glanced away after a moment, not daring to brave his eyes again, for she felt they knew all her secrets. Instead, her glance was caught by a handsome elf on the far side of the room, in the middle of a group. Farielle saw Thalion amidst them as well, but her focused remained on the stranger.

"My Lady?" A voice floated into Farielle's thoughts. She turned to see Nīndorien, and another elf she had seen only briefly, and had not talked to yet. The Lady Arwen.

"I am sorry, what was that?" Farielle said quickly. Nīndorien smiled. "This is the Lady Arwen, daughter of Elrond. I felt you two should meet, for you have much in common."

Arwen and Farielle smiled at each other, Arwen's warm smile and Farielle's sunny one brightening the place where the stood.
"I am the Lady Hathelwen, My Lady Arwen." Farielle said, trying to keep the fact that Glorfindel was still studying her carefully out of her mind.

Arwen replied quietly. "I know, my father had told me of you." Farielle felt a chill. How much did she know? But Arwen continued. "I would talk longer, Hathelwen, but I fear I must go. I will see you again soon." Arwen promised as she was swept away by a few elven maidens, followed by Nīndorien.

Farielle turned back to Glorfindel, smiling, and inclined her head once. "My Lord, I have been priveliged with your company, but I depart." As she turned, Glorfindel nodded. "We must talk soon, lady."
----------------------------------------
Farielle spent the next hour wandering about the hall, occasionally chatting with an elf or two. By now, she was warm and dry, her gown only damp at the hem. Her hair, while no longer wet, was still a bit tousled. She let her mind wander, and was surpised when she found herself next to Thalion. He smiled at her, before taking her hadn and leading her a bit away from the group he had been in.

"How do you fair, Minjonet?"

"I've been fine."

Thalion was quiet for a moment. Then he said low enough so that only she could hear, "Do you see that elf over there?" Farielle turned to see the handsome elf she had seen earlier.

"I have been talking with him, and something about him isn't right. It's as if he has an evil purpose inside him, even if it doesn't show. I don't want you to talk to him."

Farielle's independent nature rose within her. "Thalion, I will not be told what I will and will not do. You are not my father."

Thalion's eyes flashed. "I am only trying to keep you safe, Farielle, don't be childish."

Farielle turned away, angry. "How can you say that? I will not be ruled, Thalion, or treated as if I am helpless. I will talk to whomever I please!"

"No, you will not talk to him, Farielle. He is not true of heart."

Farielle turned and quickly walked away, furious that Thalion would treat her so. Part of her mind said that he was only being protective, but the larger part of her mind was indignant. She had been ruled by her parents, she didn't need it from him too.

Farielle tried her hardest not to storm out of the hall in anger, but forced herself to slowly walk out. To her great delight, as the doors swung closed, she saw that the rain had lessened to a mist of tiny water droplets. The sun had come out, making the wet world sparkle with light. A rainbow stretched out over the sun, which was making ready to disappear from the sky. Farielle took a deep breath and glanced about the deserted courtyard. Suddenly, the doors swung open behind her. Turning, she saw the handsome elf Thalion did not trust.

She smiled at him, before turning back to take in the sky's beauty. "My Lady, may I stay here with you?" the elf's meldoic voice sounded, and his politeness made Farielle smile. "Of course, My Lord. Stay as long as you wish."

The two stood together silently for a moment. Then, the elf tunred to her, smiling. "My Lady, will you tell me your name?" Farielle didn't hesitate. "Lady Hathelwen of Lorien. And yourself?"

The handsome elf smiled. "Lord Ertio'n, my Lady. Tell me, how do you know Thalion of Lorien?"

Farielle's mind flashed with anger as she thought of him. "He acompanied me from Lorien by my father's wishes." Somehow, it seemed that Ertio'n looked happier. "Would you walk with me Lady?"

Farielle took the arm he offered her with a smile and together, they went out into the courtyard and down to the gardens.

After an hours passing, Farielle had come to be at ease with Ertio'n.They found that they loved many of the same things, such as forests, and riding horses was a favorite pastime of them both. Soon, they stopped to rest on an elaborate stone bench that had dried from the rain. As Farielle sat, she looked up to see that they were under an arch of branches formed by two trees growing together, like lovers embracing.

Farielle's eyes came down again, only to meet Ertio'n's own deep blue eyes, that held her gaze steadily. After a moment's silence, Ertio'n spoke softly.

"Tell me the truth, My Lady. I sense you are not wholly truthful about the matter of your name and heritage. Tell me, please. I promise that no harm will befall you by my knowledge."

Farielle turned away, by Ertio'n held her hand and, with a slight touch to her cheek, turned her to face him again. After a moment's struggle within herself, Farielle broke and agreed.

"My name is Farielle of Lorien. I am the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. I use the name Hathelwen because my mother bids it."

Ertio'n studied her carefully, but she knew he would sense no lie, because there was none. She sighed. "You must have known my sister, and how she died..." she whispered almost inaudibly.

Ertio'n nodded slowly, and squeezed her hand in comfort. Then, he rose. "My dear Lady, why keep it a secret? What harm can befall you here in Imladris?" He swept his arm around dramatically, making her laugh. But she shook her head. "No, no one must find out, My Lord. It would be a mistake, maybe even a fatal one."

"You are afraid of life, young one?"

Farielle looked up quickly, not sure if he meant it as a jest. But his eyes were serious. Almost disbelieving, she heard herself say, "What did you just say to me?"

He laughed lightly and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Do not fear life, but rejoice in it Lady. You should not be afraid to be yourself. Trust the ones you hold dear, and know that it would be difficult to harm a Lady of your quality and personage."

Leaving her, bewildered at his speech, to ponder his words, he turned, and soon disappeared from view among the flowers. Farielle, however, stayed motionless on the stone as the last light of day played over her face, and finally disappeared into night.

Farielle glanced up at the sky as the sun set, vivid and beautiful, almost terrifyingly beautiful. The reds, oranges, and yellows mixed together like paint smeared across the great blue canvas of sky that was slowly turning dark. The first star could be seen twinkling high over the horizon, dimly now, but Farielle knew it would be one of the brightest stars that night.

Vanima shifted impatiently, not wanting to stand still. Farielle quieted her, and gazed out over the scenery again. She had ridden from Rivendell to be away from the emotions that mixed together and tumbled through her mind without rest. But even here, she could not escape from life, as much as she wanted to.

A chill had crept into the air. The weather was crisp and peaceful, like the nights in Lorien near Midsummer. Farielle was on the crest of a hill, able to look out around her for miles. Off in the distance, she saw something move. Gazing at it intently for a moment, she realized that it was a rider headed full speed for Rivendell.

Farielle's eyes narowed, and she made a great effort to see the riders face, but could not make out details for a moment. Then, she realized how familiar that face was...

As the rider galloped up the rise towards her, she spurred Vanima forward and rode swiftly to meet him. Her smile was wide, and her eyes were bright. Her hair whipped behind her, the braids that had been carefully plaited came undone.

"Father!" she cried. Celeborn's face was bright with happiness as he looked upon his daughter. "My Little One, Minjonet, where has she gone. I see no one but this beautiful elven woman!" Farielle laughed. "I'm right here, I haven't gone at all!"

Celeborn took his daughter's hand. "Three long years, Minjonet, since I saw you last. The time has flown indeed." His eyes met hers.

Farielle recognized trouble on her father's face. "What is the matter? Is it mother?" Farielle suddenly felt fear. What could bring her father to travel here?

Celeborn squeezed her hand. "Everything will be fine, Farielle, you'll see. Come, let us ride on to Rivendell. I long to see it after these very long years."

Their hands still entwined, they rode slowly towards the lights of Imladris that shone out as the darkness fell upon the valley.

A bit dramatic, and definitly feuled by the intense lack of sleep!
--------------------------------------
As they reached the bridge crossing into Rivendell, Celeborn took the lead. Many elves knew who he was, and gave the customary sign of respect. Farielle smiled, seeing the confused looks on their faces, wondering what he was doing there, and what she was doing with him. Celeborn dismounted, calling out, "Where is Elrond? I much desire to see him, and quickly."

Before more could be said, Elrond appeared in a large stone archway. "Celeborn, my dear old friend. What brings you to Rivendell now?" Celeborn said nothing, indicating that he could not say it in front of all those present.

Farielle dismounted and joined Renell and their usual crowd of friends, waiting to hear what he would say. Instead, he turned to the rather large gathering of elves, announcing clearly, "People of Rivendell, I bring you greeting from the people of Lorien. Tell me, where is the Lady Renell?" Renell stepped forward a bit hesitantly. Celeborn whispered something in her ear, and her eyes widened, then narrowed as she looked at him, but she said nothing.

Celeborn turned back to the crowd. "Where is my daughter?" Murmers of confusion went around the gathering. Farielle sighed, wishing that her father had not said what he did. Slowly, she stepped forward. The crowd parted around her, casting odd glances and stares in her direction. Slowly, she walked towards her father, then dropped her head in a display of respect.

"People of Lorien, this is not who you think it is. She has been here under the name Hathelwen under her mother's bidding, but no longer shall her heritage remain a secret. She is the Lady Farielle of Lorien, white gem of her people, and my daughter."

Farielle raised her eyes to look at the crowd. Many of them were shocked. She was relieved to see that none looked angry, save one, and she knew why. Thalion's face was like a storm cloud. She knew he feared for her life...

Farielle waited impatiently outside the library, pacing back and forth countless times. Renell had been waiting with her, but had long since left to walk in the gardens. Farielle had lost count of the hours that she had been waiting, but she never left. Her father and Elrond had locked themselves in the library, and had not come out. Farielle finally sighed and turned to leave when she came face to face with an old man cloaked in grey.

The man smiled somewhat wearily, his blue eyes tired. "I am assuming that you are Farielle. I was told I would meet you here, for you have not left since they shut the doors." Farielle nodded silently, wondering who this man was. That question was soon answered.

"I am Gandalf the Grey. I have tidings for Elrond. Is he in council with your father still?" Farielle nodded again. The man nodded and sat in one of the stone chairs outside the door. "Tell me something, young one. Has Elrond taught you the lore of Middle Earth?"

"I have learned much of it, along with other things."

"Can you tell me what you know of Isildur, and the ring of power? I want to see that Elrond is doing his job properly in training a child like you."

Farielle didn't bother to question what he meant about "a child like her." Istead, she began with the story she had heard so many times.

Gandalf sat in silence as she spoke. When she had finished, he nodded. "So he has taught you well. But now I must know. What happened to the Ring after Isildur's death?"

Farielle looked up quickly. "I... I don't know..." she said quietly. Obviously, it had been the answer he had been looking for. "So Elrond knows naught of the ring as well."

At that moment, the doors opened. Gandalf stood, and without another word, entered. Before the doors closed, Farielle saw her father slumped in a chair, his hand to his forehead. Maps and books covered the tables. She knew something was terribly wrong. The doors shut, blocking her view.

Farielle had finally left the hall. She was amazed to see that it was late in the afternoon. "I must have been up all night, and most of today waiting in that hall!" she laughed softly to herself. She wasn't hungry, so she went out into the warm sunshine and walked swiftly out to her favorite garden path.

The trees shaded the path, and flowring vines entangled them. The path went through a small clearing, where golden and red flowers blossomed everywhere, nearly hiding the path. She strayed form it gladly and went among the untamed tangle of blooms. She sat down on the warm, dry ground, the flowers reaching to her shoulders. Insects hummed sleepily, and birds, thousands, it seemed, sang out from the trees.

Farielle sat in silence. Suddenly, a sound startled her from her day dreams. Two elves were walking along the path. She saw soon enough that it was Arwen and Nīndorien. Farielle stood quickly and greeted them with a wave, letting them know she was there. She expected them to pass by, but instead, Arwen smiled and walked over to her.

"My Lady Farielle, it is good to see you. I believe another introduction is at hand, aunt, for I do not believe I truly know anything about you."

Farielle smiled, pleased. As they walked, Arwen suddenly turned to Nīndorien. "I almost forgot, my father send good news to you. My brothers are returning home in a few days."

Nīndorien's eyes shone. "Finally! I haven't seen them for too long." Farielle tilted her head questioningly. "Your brothers? I have not had the pleasure of meeting them."

Arwen laughed. "My Lady, I would pray that you never shall, for they are not truly grown up. But still, they are wonderful leaders and friends."

Farielle thought on this as their walked continued on the pretty path. The sun's light caught in her hair, and sparkled like a golden fire. She did not feel like a golden fire though, but like a windy storm cloud, for she could not banish her fears that were kept secret inside the library behind locked doors.

"Farielle..."

Farielle shifted slightly, ignoring the voice she only heard in a soft, echo-like fashion.

"Farielle..."

The voice grew more insistent, and a hand on her shoulder shook her slightly. Farielle groaned and lifted her head slightly, her half-opened eyes not making out much more than blurs of color. She drew a hand across her tired eyes, and everything became clearer. She sat up straight, finding that she was still in her chair at her writing table. A book was open upon it, and a few papers were scattered about. The room was dark, unlike the warm sunlit afternoon she would swear was only a moment ago.

Glancing up, she saw her father smiling in amusment. "Do you often fall alseep over Elrond's studies for you?"

Farielle laughed while she stretched. Her father helped her up. "I am leaving soon, and I didn't want to miss saying goodbye to my daughter."

"Why so soon?" Farielle asked, fully awake now.

"I must get back to your mother. I would ask that you come with me. She still doesn't like you being here, and now, with things the way they are..."

Farielle looked at him questioningly, but he said nothing.

"Couldn't you at least wait until morning? It's so dark out, and..."

She stopped short as she saw Thalion coming down the hall with his pack. "Where are you going to?" she asked quickly, afraid of his answer.

"I've recieved a message from Haldir. He bids me to come to Lorien. I can't say more, I'm afraid."

"No, Thalion! Please, don't leave!" Farielle's green eyes grew large, with the emotions that were clashing like a summer storm in her heart written plainly there. Thalion turned away, unable to face her eyes and her stricken face.

"I must..."

Farielle turned to her father. "Please, Father, wait until morning! I beseech you, please!"

Celeborn slowly nodded. "But before the sun fully stirs, we must be gone."

Farielle and Thalion stood under the velvety blue sky. In the east, a smear of the lightest pink and orange appeared, blotting out the stars near the horizon. No one else was near, for the house of Elrond had not yet stirred. Under the trees, Farielle and Thalion said their farewells. They stood under two trees whose branches were entertwined with one another, like their hearts.

"Cuio nin mellon, merin sa haryalye alasse."

A tear streaked Farielle's face, pale in the moonlight. Thalion lovingly brushed it away and smiled.

"A'maelamin ,vanimle sila tiri. Lissenen ar' maska'lalaith tenna' lye omentuva. Le meluvan śne ar alye lśmessen tenna nurucilie."

At this, nothing could stop the tears wich spilled down Farielle's cheeks. Turning her face slightly, she brought a hand to her eyes in a vain attempt to dry them. Thalion said nothing for a moment. After a short time, it was Farielle who spoke quietly.

"Sut an?"

Thalion shook his head.

"I know not. Please, love, don't cry. We shall meet again soon."

Farielle looked up at him with her tear-streaked face and damp eyes that shone in the ever growing sunlight on the horizon.

"Lle vesta?"

Thalion nodded. Without another word, he kissed her for a long moment. Neither wanted to let go, even though they knew the creul sun was coming swiftly to tear them away from each other. Finally, Thalion slipped away.

"Namįrie..."

Elven Daughter
February 10th,2003, 02:41 AM
The sun rose and set many times in the following weeks, but Farielle took no notice of any of it. She became almost dead, going through the motions of life, but her heart wasn't there, nor her soul. All her thoughts fleww away over the land to a place where Thalion was now. Where that place was, she did not know, but somehow she found it in her dreams.

Farielle sat in an open, airy room. The bright spring sun shone in, filling the room with light, and the birds sang from the treetops just outside the window. Farielle saw none of this, but saw the elvish hand which she now held. The young girl sleeping in the bed had been sick during the night, and Elrond called on Farielle to help heal her. it was part of her training in medicenes and healing. She was used to it, but lately, it had become even more routine. She barely paid attention, just enough where required.

Slowly, she slid her hand from the girl's and stood up, straightening the white smock she wore over her deep blue dress. Making sure the girl slept peacfully, she turned and left the room. The hall, open on one side to the fresh air and light, was quiet, save the birds that sang continually. Walking slowly to the balcony and placing her hand lightly on the rail, Farielle looked down on the yard below. She could see two young female elves sitting in the sun laughing about something or another, and a young couple was strolling hand in hand.

Farielle turned away, the pain in her heart burning afresh. She didn't hear Arwen come up behind her, didn't know she was there until she laid a cool hand on her shoulder. Farielle turned to face her silently, tears welling in her eyes.

Arwen said nothing, but pulled her close in a hug, which said everything. In that moment, Farielle knew they both longed for their loved one, but more than distance stood between them.

Looking back over my story, I realized I forgot to tell you all something about the story!!! Oopsie-daisy, hehe. Ok, here goes:

Just so you all know, I have read the trilogy several times over, and I am currently working on the Simarillion. As some of you LOTR fanatics might have noticed already, I take quite a bit of liberty with some of Tolkien's characters. Well, really, only one, but anyways... I wanted to let you all know that Celebrian is a girl in the books, and is technically Farielle's sister who was killed. Celebrian was the wife of Elrond, and the mother of Arwen, so Farielle truly is Arwen's aunt, but in a different way. I thought about doing it that way, but I didn't want Farielle to be an only child, so gave her a brother. And since I couldn't think of any good names at the time, I named him Celebrian. Just to clear that up for all of you who thought I was nuts, hehe. Thanky, you may now continue with your lives...

Farielle heard a soft noise not far down the open hallway. She turned to see Glorfindel walking towards them. Though his sight brought her joy, the sunny day looked no less gray in her eyes, if only a brighter shade of gray. Still, she managed a smile smile.

"Ah, Lady Arwen," he said, after acknowleding Farielle's smile, "Tell me, is it not the day of your brothers' return?"

Arwen's face lit up. "Yes! I had almost forgotten! You are a blessing, my Lord." Arwen ran back down the corridor silently, but her joy sang out to all who saw her.

Glorfindel turned back to Farielle. As he saw her face, his smile disappeared. Instead of conversation, he offered her his arm, and together they walked down to a small grove of trees. Farielle knew, though her years were short, that though talk is silver, silence is surely golden. She wanted nothing more than to walk with someone who knew, or at least seemed to know, what troubled her.

Awww, that is so lovely. Glorfindel is, quite simply, the man.

(although I am a self-confessed Glorfindel swoongirl! :loveyou:  )

Seriously, compelling writing as always - you are still maintaining an air of intrigue about the main character. Great job!

The already leisurely pace of thier walk slowed as they reached the shade of Farielle's favorite grove of trees. They reminded her of the mallorns at home, though they were not nearly as tall, and only half as beautiful. A slight breeze blew, and here and there leaves floated lazily to the ground.

It was Glorfindel who broke the silence at last. Gently, he took Farielle's arm and guided her around to face him.

"We can speak the full truth now, Lady Farielle, for indeed, your father has quite given you away."

Farielle blushed slightly. "I am sorry, my Lord, I did not decieve you and all the others out of some evil inside myself. My mother bid me to do so."

"I know, Lady. I would do the same for my daughter if I felt she was in danger."

Farielle's eyes rose to meet his. "You have a daughter, my Lord?"

Glorfindel smiled and shook his head. "No, Farielle, I don't. If I may take a liberty for a moment, I will tell you this. If I did have a daughter, I would wish her to be like you."

"Like me? What admirable qualities do I posess, Lord Glorfindel?"

"You, Farielle, have many. Intelligence, which I can say will soon become wisdom for you, for you are far beyond your years in much. Courage, for you came to a place you did not know under a threat of danger your parents strongly warned of. And something else important above all. You know how to love. Not just Thalion..." he said quickly, as she opened her mouth, "But you have the heart to care for all things."

Farielle looked away. "You flatter me greatly. I may posess these things which you speak of, but certainly not in the quantity you seem to imply."

Glorfindel laughed, and after a moment, Farielle laughed too. "Have I counted humility among your virtues?" Glorfindel asked teasingly. Farielle smiled back at him. She suddenly lost the years which had accumluated on her face since Thalion's departure. Glorfindel noticed, somewhat surprised.

"Farielle, another liberty, if you don't mind. How is it possible that one moment you have the look of many years of life on your young face, but the next you are a mirthful child again? You amaze me, Lady."

Farielle sighed. "Since Thalion left, I haven't been myself. I remember only two or three years ago, when he first told me of his love ofr me, was afraid, and refused to love him back, but somehow, my heart changed in an instant. I miss him..."

Farielle's voice trailed, and her face was no longer mirthful and young. Instead, grief flooded through her features like a river, swiftly hiding any sign of joy.

That was beautiful writing Elven. I loved the way that Glorfindel could compliment her and at the same time get Farielle to think about her situation. A great update.

We anxiously await the next part Elven! :)

Glorfindel opened his mouth to speak again when suddenly, a horn sounded far off. Glorfindel smiled as he heard it. Turning back to Farielle, he noted the questioning look on her face.

"The sons of Elrond have returned."
-------------------------------------------------------
Taking her arm, they hastened along the path back to the house. Upon reaching it, Farielle bid Glorfindel farewell and ran up the stairs to her chamber. She was murmuring to herself as she went.

"I the least I must comb my hair, for I have been up since the early hours of the morning."

Upon reaching her room, she darted here and there, mostly to and from her wardrobe in the corner. Withing minutes she had donned a fresh gown of soft rose coloured satin. She sat at her mirror and quickly unplaited her braid and brushed her hair out. She decided to save time and leave it loose. As a last touch she put on her new browband of a deep gold color. In the center of her forehead a single pearl hung daintily.

She didn't take the time to glance herself over in the mirror, but quickly left the room, running down the wide stairs to the courtyard where riders were recieved. She ran down the small set of steps not a moment too soon. Hurrying over to Arwen, who smiled at her and squeezed her hand, she smoothed her dress and hair quickly. No sooner had she done this than a small company of horsemen rode in, led by two elves who were nearly identical in appearance who had the same features as the Lady Arwen,

Elladan and Elrohir dismounted their horses, and gave the reins to a waiting elfling boy, who led them off to stable them. Arwen smiled wider than Farielle had ever seen her do so. Rushing forwards, Arwen embraced first Elladan, then Elrohir. Warm greetings were exchanged between them. It was Elladan who first noticed Farielle.

Coming to her, he nodded his head. "My Lady, I do not believe we have had the pleasure of meeting. I am Elladan, son of Elrond, and this is my brother Elrohir. Pray, give me your name. You seem familiar, Lady. Are you a daughter of one of the
elf-lords here in Rivendell?"

Farielle smiled. "Not in Rivendell, Elladan. If I seem familiar, perhaps it is my mother you see in me. She is the Lady Galadriel. Your grandmother."

Elladan stepped back, surprised. "This is truly a surprise. I did not know my grandmother had another daughter."

"Indeed, she did, though it was recent in your eyes, and kept secret from many."

Elrohir came up beside Elladan and studied Farielle. After a moment, he smiled and nodded.

"Lady, you are indeed Galadriel's daughter. You have her rare presence, you have her pleasant voice, and you have her eyes, if perhaps a different color."

Farielle smiled and embraced them. "I am glad that you have returned to Imladris so we could finally meet, for Arwen has told me much about you." Farielle said with a small laugh.

OK, bonus points to anyone who can come up with the two movies I used pieces of dialouge from to make my own dialouge, if not entirely the same. Hint: Farielle said one, and Elrohir said the other. You'll never guess this, hahahahaha :evilcool:

You all are soooooo silly! hehe. Ok, here's the answers:

1. What a Girl Wants starring Amanda Bynes

"She has a birth certificate, she has my photograph, and she has my eyes..." was the line from the movie. I turned it into this:

"You have her rare presence, you have her pleasant voice, and you have her eyes, if perhaps a different color."

2. Mists of Avalon

"Not one of your men, My Lord. If I seem familiar, perhaps it is my mother you see in me. She is the Lady Morgaine, your sister." was the line from the
