When was Return of the Jedi written anyway? I laugh at his feeble attempts to put down LOTR! lol

could someone describe it to this lazy bum who can't click on the link and see for herself?

Fine fine, Tar. This person thinks that Peter Jackson is ripping off the title, "The Return of the King" from "Return of the Jedi" in Star Wars. He also thinks in an insult to Elvis fans. 22 signatures too... ugh

I was mad enough at the TT petiton

Listen to this:
"It wasn't bad enough cashing in on the september 11 attacks....And also, Return of the KING. Are you saying that England's queen isn't good enough to rule the commonwealth."

This just stupid enough to make me mad!

Besides, where's the "Click here to oppose the petiton" button anyway? Did they have a Fellowship petiton too?

What a joke!

Can't these people accept the fact that Tolkien named these books almost fifty years ago?!

December 24th,2002, 05:59 AM
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH that's almost as dumb (or as dumb) as the Two Tower petition.

Daisy Gamgee
December 24th,2002, 06:29 AM
I think this petition is meant to be a joke - its written in a sarcastic manner. And one or two of the replies are just as sarcastic. I don't reackon he is insulting Tolkien - in fact chances are he's probably a fan. Its very tongue in cheek - so no need to get any heckles up

I'll let my message on the petition speak for its self:

BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And I'm laughing harder at the people who thought this was real than at the petition! hehehehe

Classic! That's funny. I think they're just taking the ...um..., they're just sending up the crowd who seriously wrote and signed the TTT petition. I remember someone at that point threatened (as a joke) to start a petition re Elvis one to emphasise how idiotic the TTT petition was. Looks like who ever wrote this one has covered every base they could think of.
Funny lol....... hey I'm easily amused these days ~ a couple of hours to Xmas and less than 40hrs til TTT is released here [so I can come fully out of hiding on the web :)]

And I'm avoiding my thesis again .... that always makes me happy. ;)

Sometimes sarcasm misses the mark, peoples this is a joke.

To: Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema
I was saddened, shocked, appalled and upset to learn that the last Lord Of The Rings film is being released under the title of Return Of The King.

This is obvious plagiarism of George Lucas’ marvellous STAR WARS film “Return of the Jedi”, although it was released some twenty years after the book was published.

Also there are many ELVIS fans that will be insulted beyond belief by the title of this last book. Cashing in on this great man’s demise is almost as bad as cashing in on the September 11th Tragedy of the last title. Is it not bad enough that Elvis and Elvish sound so similar?? Not to mention the fact that Elvis are essentially a poor imitation Vulcans, from Gene Roddenbury’s STAR TREK …

This title is also anarchical, Return of the KING? Are you suggesting that our current queen cannot properly rule the Commonwealth? Or maybe it is a derogatory comment on women’s rights in general, in which case there are many feminist groups whom you would be insulting!

This is a plea to you Peter Jackson, to rename the third book! Its current title is an affront to our basic human rights and dignity!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

lol lol lo lol lol lol lol lol

Well at least it's guaranteed that these petitioners will be like the last and get no voice in the end for such a ridiculous matter...

Evenstar

45 signiatures now, and the last one's mine...
Before you all tell me that I'm crazy agreeing with 'The Undersigned' or whatever they call themself, I only signed it to tell anyone who reads it that it's a load of c***. Of course they should call the film RotK!
Here's the message I left:
quote: "LOTR was written way before Star Wars etc. It was here first so maybe you should write the petition to the Star Wars people, not Peter Jackson. He didn't make the name himself, did he? Anyone who's read the books will see why the title is Return of the King, because the monarchy returns to Gondor. Aragorn hasn't come back from the dead, just renewed the monarchy so leave Peter Jackson alone!"
Sorry, I don't know how to put the blue quote lines in. But, anyone reading the comments on the petition will see that half the people who signed it are just saying it should be kept as RotK.

Evenstar

Oops, didn't realise it was a joke till just now!

January 6th,2003, 01:36 AM
Do you really think that Peter Jackson will give up his masterpiece, $100,000,000, and also many prices? The books of Tolkien were written more than 50 years ago...

OBsession
January 13th,2003, 06:54 AM
Oh My God Is The Person Who Wrote This Petition And Everyone That Signed The Petition A Freekin Child?(The People Who Wan't ROTK renamed) For Gods Sake It's The Name Of A Book! And The September 11 Issue Is Sad And Everything But Why Should We Have To Change The Name Of A Movie For Other Peoples Refusal To Get On With Their Lives? I Also Think The Stuff To Do With Elvis Is A Bunch Of *sugar* Like I said Can People Not Get On With Their Lives?

*Word has been changed* verymad

P.S The womans rights *Sugar* is absolutely absurd. I'm A Chick And I Think That that is a lame excuse to get ROTK renamed! And PJ Better not listen to it!

Reyes Lord
January 13th,2003, 08:24 PM
Dear Lord! This is insane. Has the person who started this petition ever even see the covers of the books before it got turned into a movie. I really hope no one takes this seriously. I'm torn between outrageous anger than someone would be stupid enough to start this sort of petition and amusement because of the such stupidity of it all!

Orkybash
January 13th,2003, 09:46 PM
You know what's REALLY insane?

It's all a big joke people!

And trust me, if anyone laughs at how stupid the whole thing is and gets all up in arms because they don't see how anyone could THINK about renaming the books, then sorry, but you're the one who deserves to be laughed at.

This happened with the TTT petition (yes, it was a joke, but not as obviously), and I think it's pretty **** funny to see history repeating its self this soon!

Guys, guys, guys *shakes head is disbelief*

It's a JOKE
You're all taking it WAY WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. (I'm echoing Orkybashes last post).

These guys are sending up the idiots who seriously wrote the TTT petition and those that seriously signed it. I think they've done a superb job (Hey I signed it at 26).
Stop taking it so seriously.

this is halarious lol

Shyster & Shyster, Attornies at Law
My client, a major Burger chain, demands that the title be changed, as it implies that their food gives one 'returns'. Mr Jackson, you have been warned. Also, in relation to the last movie, another of my clients, a Mr Roosevelt D. Hightower of Hoboken, asserts breach of copyright by using his name without permission. He will overlook this insult for either $500 million in cash, or a lifetime supply of Cheez Wizz.

Cheez Wizz, Hoboken lol
your's was good to Iarfirithwen. very funny lol

January 19th,2003, 04:25 AM
roflmao hahaha okay, wow. WHY would they have a petition for a name change? come on! these books have had these titles forever! if it is an insult to anyone, it's an insult to TOLKIEN! HE came up with these titles!! Not PJ! jeesh... strange people *shakes head*

:brave: I have a dreeeaaam today! That a petition will not be judged by the words in which it is written but by the content of its intended p*ss-take. :brave:

The irony is that even some of us are taking this seriously. I am appalled. Yes, you! You know who you are! Get a sense of humour! And you hobbits...get a hair-cut! verymad

I have to pee! Oh stop, my sides hurt!

Hey folks, it's a joke, like this:

http://www.bbspot.com/News/2003/01/frodo_lives.html

It's great to see all y'all (you know who you are) stick up for Professor T. and his works, though. Loyalty is great.

Now, if you want to be either really offended by something or have a good laugh, go read National Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings": The tale of how the ring came to Frito Bugger from his uncle D*ldo and how he sets out with his good servant Spam Gangrene, to destroy it and thwart the evil Sorhed. lol
