View Full Version : Who would YOU cast?

Imagine you're the director of LOTR, instead of Peter Jackson. Who would YOU cast in the major roles, assuming unlimited budget, etc? Of course, the current cast is wonderful, but this is your fantasy -- go for it!

I think I would've changed Saurun cause I mean don't Pikachu's "pika pika" sound a little more evil than that "azh nash" stuff.. nah just joking *but am afraid of Pikachu* lol

All of the male parts were cast pretty well...but I can't help but
think that someone else (not Miranda Ott) should play Eowyn.

You're the first person I've heard that feels that way...So who would you choose instead?

*shrug*
You know how you read a story and then see someone playing the part of the character.....and you just curl your lips up as you think...gee... she's not the best person to portray her...
that's what happened with me.. and I don't mind being the first and perhaps only person to think that way..
I'm gonna ponder your last question as to who should have been cast and get back to ya.

Okay well...I thought about it... I can't think of who I'd rather play Eowyn cause she doesn't exist.. I like the fact that PJ used actors that were not mainstream. In this sense, Miranda Ott is a good choice. (Wouldn't want to see Mel Gipson or Tom Hanks in this movie or Catherine Zeta Jones for that matter)
I'm not backing down from my original comment but only want to say that I want to see how she plays her in ROTK -- that will
be something to watch!!

The reason I posed this question in the first place, P.K., is that so many who have read and reread the books have envisioned these characters for years. And I just wondered who would have been the perfect actor for your particular "fantasy" of the characters. If it's not Miranda Otto, that's fine -- I was just observing that you are the first person to say that.
Obviously, because the movies are out now and a big part of our lives at the moment, it's hard to envision anyone else playing these roles!

oh I could imagine a much better Arwen.... i do not like Liv's Arwen at all. not elven, not graceful, too full of herself really....
now i cant give you another name i would like, as i dont know names of actors or actresses, and i dont watch many movies. but i do know that they could have given Arwen's part to someone a lot more ... elf like ... than liv
i cant think of any other castings with which im dissatisfied

I think that the casting was really good, except for Liv.
She just takes money and does a lousy job of portraying an elf. I don't know anyone else right now, but she is not the person for the job, and Hugo Weaving could have been a tad more happy than he was in the movie.

Nothing against Sean Bean -- I thought he was great -- but how 'bout Liam Neeson as Boromir?

Well I don't think *all* the casting is perfect. But it's the best out of any other movie I've seen :)

I think you guys are missing the point tho -- when I asked this question, I didn't mean, "Who Do you Like or Don't Like?" -- I meant it more for those who are long-time Ringers. Obviously, when you read a book, you get a picture of a character in your mind. And sometimes, you think about which actor might make the ideal so and so....
So my question was really more about who would be your perfect Aragorn/Boromir/Frodo, etc., based on your imaginings of the book.

I didn't like Liv Tyler and David Wenham in their roles.
to think about (this is jest):
As Faramir -
Ewan McGregor
Wallace Shawn
Marcus Chong j/k ;)

Hunter Tylo as Arwen
David Bowie (like he looked in Labyrinth) as Elrond
The hobbits are a bit thinner than I pictured, but otherwise ok. The rest of the cast is pretty good.

I dunno about the David Bowie thing... :mmmm: he looked ok in Labyrinth but I gotta say Hugo Weaving was better as Elrond.
I'd probably cast Kate Beckinsale as Eowyn. No? perhaps a little too fiery... but she'd look brill with blonde hair!
Hey, wouldn't it be fun if they cast Sean Connery as Theoden??!!!! lol
