well on christmas day i awoke to my brother's relentless poking and went down stairs to discover that 'santa' had given me sign language by my favorite exiled king of gondor viggo mortensen. Being both a huge fan of the actor and a aspiring artist, i was so excited i almost knocked over the christmas tree.
any way i was not disapointed, Viggo is truly a renaissance man. His photography is thought provoking and interesting, ranging from a very neat picture of a house on the back of a car to a very creepy looking young boy. some of picutres in the book were taken during the year and a half the artist spent in new zealand filming the lord of the rings trilogy, so there are a few candid picutres of the cast (including a very sexy one of elijah, and just really neat pic of john rhys-davies worthy of mention).
it is truly a great book and i am planning to buy another one of his books... just brilliant work, i'm not saying this because he's viggo and gorgeous (cuz he is you know) but because he really is talented... bravo viggo, bravo!
i know it's wicked expensive on some web sites but i found one where you can get it for $25 dollors

I've seen a bit of his photography on line and it is good stuff. (In particular, I love that one of Elijah). Its good that the coverage he's getting with LOTR is encouraging people to find out about his other work (House of Telcontar website has loads of info on him). As you said though, the books aren't cheap, and I doubt are available over in Oz, but I'm keeping an eye out

i've just ordered a copy off his publishing house's website, percevalpress.com. it's $25, plus an extra $22 for shipping and handling, which is quite a bit but i know it'll be worth it. i've already seen some of his work and as a keen photographer and graphic designer myself, it'll be lovely to view some of his latest work.

ok, i was so ecstatic when my book arrived this morning all bubble-wrapped and delish! vig's photos are truly stunning, especially the blk and wht ones, and the lij one still amazes me every time i see it. i was, however, a little surprised to find that some some pics i had read would be featured in 'signlanguage' were not present e.g. one of orli putting in his contact lenses for the role of leggs, and one of dom with a beer in one hand and a grin on his face... but still, i am absolutely delighted with the featured pics and feel incedibly inspired by vig's beautiful photography.
his artwork is also lovely to behold and his use of ostentatious colours and contours is superb - not that i'm an art critic or anythng! - but they ARE fantastic to view and it all adds to vig's ever-increasing credentials. i'm so happy!

it's very unusual that it's not included in 'signlanguage'...

there is absolutely NONE of vig's handwriting in 'signlanguage', which also disappointed me 'cos i'd have loved to read his own personal insights into his photography and paintings. in the pics of lij and orli that i've viewed on certain websites, there's always been a caption of vig's writing included beneath the pics but they've been excluded in the book.
