I see trheads all over the place for all the beautiful people in the movies, but what about Gimli? Besides the fact that he's a butt kickin' dwarf, he's also a sprinter!roflmao
First to try to destroy the ring (oops!), bad enough to say he'd rather die than see the ring in the hands of the elves, yet man enough to cry over his lost kin under the mountain...and in front of the other guys! Now that, my friends, is security in one's self!!
I'd take him and his battle axe at my side in a fighr any day!

Awwww, poor Gimli. He's a great guy ,great orc-killer and he lightens other people's sprits when times are bad, ( though he is a bit of a idiot) good guy or dwarf all the same. ;)

I like the two different gimlis (film and book) as seperate people i suppose. I agree with Tar that the films didn't do the book gimli justice, but he DID provide some humour in intense moments...lol...he's so sweet!

I think Gimli in the movies is awesome! You have to think between the lines of Tolkien's books! The movies brought to life each character. Dwarves are the loud boisterous type so maybe Gimli did do that. It just wasn't put in the books. Things in the movie are great!

Going back to the question 'Do dwarf women really have beards?'.
It depends on which legend and mythos you read. The Scandinavian area, which most of the LOTR legends are based on, yes. Not so thick and total as the males, but they're there.
If you go by most of the Western Europe/Brittish area mythos, they do not. Of course, there they only tended to be about 2 feet tall, and not nearly as warlike.

Oh Gimli is really cute in his own little ways, plus he's a brave warrior. ^^ I just loved the part in TTT extended version when he was comparing final count with Legolas and he won Leggo by 1 and then Leggo decided to shoot the guy underneath him... well, those who watched, yer know the story right, and those who haven't, I won't spoil it for you. But the audience applauded for that scene and for once, I was really happy that Gimli was able to have a go at Legolas. ^^
