So here it is. The 'What are you most looking forward to in ROTK' Thread. I'll make this a poll just to see what the majority think.
For me it has to be the showdown in Mount Doom between Frodo and Gollum. I know I'll definitely be on the edge of my seat for that

I voted other. If i had to pick one of those, it would sure be Mount Doom, since it's such an amazing scene!!!!
But if i can choose other, then i would have to say not the Battle at Pelennor, but just one moment, when Eowyn fights the Witch King of Angmar. That's surely gonna be something... :)

EOWYN vs THE WITCH KING!
(didn't mean to shout ...well yes I did ;) )
I actually selected "Other" because its not exactly the battles I'm most intested in, even though its within them .. mostly the bit; Then I'd probably pick the Grey Havens in #2 spot; Mt Doom in #3 and All 3 (rumoured) Battles in #4 (But its Pelannor I'm most interested in there);
Frodo's Love
January 11th,2003, 07:30 AM
I voted for the Grey Havens, that will surely be for me the most emotional part of the film... but I'm really looking forward to all of those scenes. (How can I manage to wait for that for nearly a whole year??? Arrgghh ;) )

I've voted for the battles! :) I'm expecting it to be more exciting than Helms Deep, especially the part where Eowyn kills the Witchking! I also want to see the Mouth of Sauron.
bab5nutz
January 11th,2003, 11:18 AM
I'd have to go for Eowyn versus the Witchking, too, closely followed by Denethor losing his marbles.
Catz
January 11th,2003, 11:27 AM
Shelob...........and then the WK and Eowyn.........and then the grey havens........lol and then the rest of the movie lol.......all of it......but Shelob mostly ;)

Shelob's Lair - as long as Shelob isn't made to look like something out of Eight Legged Freaks - will be the highlight of the 1st hour.
I am also looking forward to the Mount Doom scenes. That will be the highlight of the 3rd hour, no doubt.
Now all Peter Jackson has to do is find something awe-inspiring to occupy the 2nd hour! lol
Iarfirithwen
January 11th,2003, 01:36 PM
Ah Mr Shirefolk I know the scene! (as Saruman said, you know of what I speak) .....(drum roll)...I'm sure the awe-inspiring sequence that PJ will find for the second hour would have to be ... da da daaaaa, EOWYN vs the WITCH KING!
lol :whoohoo:
(though it'll at the very very beginning of that hour :mmmm: ) ooops I'm shouting again ...bad me ;)

I voted for The Grey Havens... They just sound so sad, yet interesting in the books. I can't help it thou, I must see them:) ;)
Orkybash
January 11th,2003, 08:30 PM
Grey Havens for me. That scene is the culmination of everything else that we've read/seen in the trilogy, and it's the one scene in the book that really did move me to tears. If Peter knows AT ALL what he's doing, and I think the current two films are proof enough that he does, then this scene ought to be awesome.
And given how much he's already heightened the emotions in the books...

January 12th,2003, 01:00 AM
I voted other... because I'm very much looking forward to see Eowyn and Merry vs. the Witch King. i'm attached to that part of ROTK because I'm on the speech and debate team at my school and for prose competion (which is where you select a passage from any book or other story and read it out loud with feeling and different voices) I do that part of ROTK (I practically have it memorized). Its so much fun.. I love it.. so i'm very much looking forward to how it is going to be portrayed in the movie.

January 12th,2003, 01:23 AM
I would have to say the Gray Havens. I can't wait to see how PJ ends the movie. of course i know it will be sad but i think it will be a great scene. Of course i am also looking forward to all the battles, shelob, and the whole mt. doom scene.

Hoping to see the Eagles too ;)

Shelob's lair because that was one of the main reasons to see TTT, and I was really upset they didn't do it. So Shelob's lair it is.

It was a difficult decision, but I had to go with the Mount Doom scene. The incredible acting done by these three (especially by Mr. Wood  ) have me rubbing my handses together with glee!
Everything else is a close second. So much to look forward to!

The battles for me. Helms Deep was awesome in TTT. I want to see Aragorn coming up in the ships out of the Paths of the Dead.
Mr Shirefolk
January 15th,2003, 02:50 AM
It's important for PJ to style the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in a way which makes it different from Helm's Deep. I know the armies are increased tenfold in the ROTK skirmishes but there's only so many ways one can behead and fell the bad guys. I hope Pelennor Fields won't just be a larger scale version of the battle of Helm's Deep.
There is more expectation on ROTK than there has been for any film in the past 20 years (with the possible exception of The Phantom Menace). I don't think PJ will blow it all at the final hurdle, especially seeing as he has got aces like Shelob's Lair and the Mount Doom sequences up his sleeve, but it will be an almost impossible task to cater for everyone's needs and give satisfaction to all.
The worst case scenario is for TTT to be an improvement (in terms of spectacle) on FOTR, yet ROTK failing to repeat the standard. I am confident ROTK will not fail to inspire audiences worldwide, but sometimes I feel as though PJ is fighting a losing battle, much like Frodo himself. mecry

Also the gray havens: will celeborn leave middle earth with galadriel(he doesn't in the book)?,will legolas and gimli leave too or they'll stay in Middle earth till Aragorn's dead as it happens in the book?wiil PJ include some of the stories of the lotr's appendixs, hope so.

I don't think there'd be any worry about Pelennor looking at all like Helms Deep.
Helms Deep was defensive and one-on-one foot soldier combat in the dark and rain. Pelennor will be more cavalry with a bit of one-on-one mixed in there, there will be Wraiths :whoohoo: (can't help thinking of THE scene of the movie ... well one of them anyway), its on an open field in the day light. Different set of soldiers ...actually a few different sets of soldiers + Eowyn :whoohoo: And all of this will happen near Minas Tirith. OMG I can't wait. This is going to be a amazing (I pitty PJ if he ever read these threads, or ones like them, and had the expectations of fans thrown so obviously in his face. Don't worry PJ I have faith in you and your vision:thumbs: even if its not exactly what I have in my head )

Gosh, there are so many great spots in ROTK. I hope PJ includes all of them.
But these ought to be real shockers if he does it right.
1. Sam's choices and the scene atop the Tower of Cirith Ungol.
2. The clothing articles presented by TMOS to the company.
3. Frodo's hand after the Mount Doom struggle.
(Well, of course, Eowyn removing her helmet, also.)

i know a lot of people will be most looking forward to the Mount Doom scene, as well as i, because it IS the biggest climatic part of the story - this is what it's all about. But i'm really looking forward to Shelob's Lair!!!! and the whole Palantir thing. I was kinda dissapointed when they didn't show that in TTT. Omg there are SO many things i'm looking forward to in RotK! I hear it's going to be the best out of the 3... and now, that's going to be INCREDIBLE considering how darn good the last 2 movies were!!! :whoohoo:
Filthylittlethief

I definitely wait for Sam rescuing Frodo from the tower of Cirith Ungol. Is he going to sing? Is he going to be THE elf warrior?
I also hope that Merry is going to fight against the Witch King and is then found by Pippin - is Pippin going to look into the Palatir?
I want to see them all weep a lot, of course, and not be able to see it through all my tears!

Ha, Ha, ha, - I love your enthusiasm filthylittletheif! (and your name!)
They better NOT leave Merry out of the Witchking scene with Eowyn. That would be a travesty.
I like actors who can cry for movie scenes - that's why Sean Astin aught to get best supporting actor award because he had to cry so much in TTT. He's great!
Welcome to WOTR.

aw, i love Sam! The whole Cirith Ungol and Shelob scenes are gonna be SO SAD! With Sam thinking Frodo's dead and all... :( will make me cry mecry but then happy at the same time - to know Frodo's not actually dead :) but knowing me, i'll b so into the movie, that i'll be like "AAHH! Hi! I'm looking forward to everything in ROTK as long as it's true to the books. What I'm most anticipating is The Scouring of the Shire (mainly because the Hobbits kick bootay, lol), Shelob's Lair (even though it's going to be sad, :( ), Eowyn, Merry, and the Witch-King (because it's cool, lol), and the Grey Havens (just because it's the Grey Havens, if ya know what I mean). But it is very disappointing about the Scouring :( If there was going to be the Scouring of the Shire, Sam would have gotten the box of seeds instead of rope, but oh well. It would stink if the Scouring was cut. It would especially stink if Saruman falls out of a window. The only window I could see Saruman faIling out of is the window of a hobbit hole! To be honest, I think the scouring is the weirdest part of ROTK and I am happy it will be cut (don't beat me;-). Just imagine 20 minutes of the preciuosssssssssss time of ROTK with nothing but frightened then rescued, happy small people. I think the essence of ot will be in there - being Sam's life after the quest as an example for how it will go on and still be a different Shire. And of course the Grey Havens, whhho, already weeping when I think of it.

:trout: bad, bad, bad Filthylittiethief. The Scouring is one of the best parts of the book! (no offense, I'm just kidding about the trout, you have the right to think different and that's o.k. but still :trout: :) ) When I first read LotR and The Ring was gone I looked at the book and thought " why there's so many pages left?" and then I got to the Scouring and I thought that was brilliant 'cause it showed how evil can get anywhere, even your own home and I loved Merry and Pippin at the end showing how they were grown in every sense and I felt so sad when The Shire is described....is just brilliant!!....and that's not gonna be there verymad pfbbt mecry .(just for the record, that was for PJ,not for you)

SPOILERS!!!!!
I am also looking forward to seeing how Saruman meets his doom. I believe Wormtongue cuts his throat but what happens after that, who knows? Can wizards bleed? lol I also have a feeling that some of the lines taken from the Homeward Bound chapter (between Gandalf and Treebeard) will be used at the beginning of ROTK:
Gandalf: "Is Saruman still inside, Treebeard?"
Treebeard: "Yes he is, Gandalf. Hmmm. I made him throw down the keys to Orthanc and now he has no means of escape!"
...or something like that. Treebeard will only get a little part to play at the beginning of the film, then I don't suppose we will ever see him again - until any potential epilogue (he and the Ents can plant their trees and flowers and make Isengard a place of tranquility again). :)

I agree with Filthylittlethief about the SOTS chapter. It seemed like a tack-on chapter to either 'wind us down easy' or because JRRT just wasn't ready to give it up yet.
Although, I was glad to hear all the 'future' of the characters and what their lives were like to the end and up thru the final separation at the havens.
I accept the SOTS as a little extra goody to extend the story a little longer, but it was in no way the BEST part of the book, IMHO.
I actually will look forward in the movie (after the Mount Doom chapter - the REALLY best chapter) , to bring us back to a safe and restful, delightful Shire. After the intensity of the movie up through the the Mount doom climax, bringing up a new area of fighting and contention would be like opening up again, a half-healed wound.
(As long as they leave in Sam's marriage to Rosie.)
Besides, I have already gotten my emotional fix concerning the Shire, in Merry's gorgeous speech to Pippin at the Entmoot. 'All the fields of Buckland and Tuckburough will be laid to waste - there won't be a Shire to come home to.' while they are at the Entmoot.
I'm beginning to love that scene more and more. It makes me so sad.

He might. You never know with PJ. He did revise the script like almost EVERY hour. Besides, The Return of the King would be perfect with The Scouring. It just makes sense. Are ya making "The Lord of the the R-" or "The Lord of the Rings"? This IS an adaptation after all. :)

Cuthalion
January 26th,2003, 07:11 PM
Yes,they did. I can't stop imagining that could maybe be just like the book. When you think it's all over bang! the Scouring comes and you turn into WOW!! (I can't find any words for that feeling...just WOW!!)
Glarawen
January 26th,2003, 07:47 PM
Um I voted Shelob's Lair even though I am looking foward to seeing the whole thing LOL hehe and all the scenes w/ legolas hehe *drooling already*
Meriadoc Brandybuck
January 26th,2003, 08:13 PM
Yeah, right when you think it's over, he just might add the Scouring at the last minute! I heard that PJ showed TTT to the actors with the Round Spiked Wealie Dealie in it. The actors hated it, so PJ cut it out! That was a relief. I hope they don't do the RSWD in ROTK. That would just be plain........tacky, cheesy, cringable (is that a word? lol) Anyway, having Saruman's demise in the Shire was pure genius, and it should stay that way. The actors are going back to NZ for SOMETHING big if it's for 24 weeks. Let's keep our fingers crossed! :)

Do you remember what Lego said to Gimli when they're leaving Lothlorien? "the memory shall remain clear and unstained in your heart and shall never fade" -> may these words comfort you. ;) And - as Tar says - there is a lot of ways to keep the memory clear ! :)

It's a spoiler.......you sure you want to know??
Meriadoc Brandybuck
January 28th,2003, 01:02 AM
Fillthylittletheif,
It's a spoiler if they're going to use it in the third film. If you don't want SPOILERS, don't read lower than this!
The Round Spiked Wealie Dealie is the name of the rumour that Saruman might fall out of the window of the balcony at Orthanc and land on a spiked wheel (perhaps on one of his machinery). Well, there ya have it! Pretty tacky isn't it? lol The Scouring of the Shire is still, in my opinion, the best place for Saruman to die, where he's supposed to! lol ;)

January 28th,2003, 09:29 AM
I voted for Shelob, because I REALLY REALLY want to know what Richard Taylor has made her out like!!;) But heard that at the end of the movie, aswell as the Grey Haveans(sp) that they will show the death of Aragorn and Arwen. I can't wait for that, if they show it. b/c I really want to see if Aragorn is Hot when he is really old, not the age in TTT but older.

I've heard that they filmed several 'Deaths' for Saruman. That way if any get leaked, you wont know which one is the real death...
(Sorry Moriquendi, I'm not from Council of Elrond..)
TheRingBearer
January 28th,2003, 09:11 PM
Yeah Adunauriel, look on Saruman's death thread at my post. They are the apprent death scenes though I feel he may have been joking lol
Adunauriel
January 28th,2003, 09:23 PM
He may have been, but you never know.. It seems like a good idea, you know just in case...;) I think thou, that it will be pretty close to the book. Maybe just not in the Shire...;)
Meriadoc Brandybuck
January 28th,2003, 11:28 PM
Sorry, I'm not from the Council of Elrond either. Yeah, I heard about the 'deaths' too. I heard they filmed three. One on the RSWD, one in the shire by Grima, and I forget what the other was, lol. Let me know if ya know, please. In my opinion, seeing how different rumours have been going all over the place, I think that maybe PJ is trying to trick the fans or something. However, I could be wrong. Well, it's not over 'til it's over. We'll see! ;)

I hope it's for a good reason. He DID say in an interview that TTT was the biggest departure from the books out of all three films. If he cuts out the Scouring of the Shire, that would probably make ROTK the biggest departure. I don't know. O-well. We can only hope, until we get more news and spoilers. :)

Meriadoc Brandybuck
February 1st,2003, 01:41 AM
It'll probably start with Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn, and Gimli riding to Isengard, or Frodo and Sam heading to Cirith Ungol, or Merry and Pippin going to Isengard. Probably the former. Whichever they pick, I think it's going to be really good! I agree that everyone will be surprised by ROTK, Scouring or no. I just think it would be to the fullest if the Scouring was in it.
I also hope the rest of the film is true to the books. I think the Grey Havens will leave everyone speechless. ROTK will definately be a tissue film! lol ;)

Definately Sam and Frodo at the Crack of Doom and the scene at the gates of Mordo.. I can't wait to hear Gandalf say... oh you know what he says....I don't want to be a spoiler if you are waiting for the movie to find out what happens....
But I wish I could see Bill the Pony again! For Sam's sake!
Meriadoc Brandybuck
February 2nd,2003, 04:03 AM
Yeah, I heard there was talk of the ROTK preview that's going to be at the end of TTT. I also heard that the ending has a cliffhanger like the TT preview did. I believe it's at Mount Doom! That ought to be creepy. It's going to be out sooner (probably at the end of the month). I haven't visited any of the news sites yet (they might already have it posted, :) ), so u guys probably already know about it! lol It's going to be awesome! Still, I'm preying for the Scouring. ;)

Yea, I've decided to keep a neutral mind open. I think it'll be great with or without it, but it would be better if it was. I'm not sure if they will film it and use it or not; and until there is more info., I'm not gonna draw to conclusions. All I'm gonna do is hope for it! lol We'll see.

Did anyone catch the excusable mistake in the poll about the battles? Cormallen is not the battlefield: but rather the site near Cair Andros/Henneth Annun where the army of the West settled down after their victory at the Black Gate and celebrated for a few days. (I made this same mistake myself: but a rereading of TROTK recently corrected my error.)

I want to see these scene and hear this words:
'Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!'
Then Merry heard of all sounds in that hour the strangest. It seemed that Dernhelm laughed, and the clear voice was like the ring of steel. 'But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.'...
Hope Pj doesn't miss any of these words...
Also I would love to see Imarahil lookin' at Eowyn's beauty and suddenly realizing she's not dead!!!wow!!!
And Theoden dying without knowing Eowyn lies near him
I want to see the dialogue between Gimli and Eomer discussing who is the fairest between Galadriel and Arwen(morning or evening).
I want to see Legolas promising gimli to go to menegroth and Gimli to Fangorn.
the grey havens...
the scouring of the shire..
Legolas and gimli sailing to valinor...
everything!!!
If not in the theatrical version, then in the extended DVD I don't mind 2 or 3,4,5hours of extra footage!!!!!

Yes, for me seeing the Shieldmaiden of Rohan standing before the Witch King with her shield upheld to avoid the glance of the Ringwraith will be the most exciting part for me. Yes, mine was recorded on Showtime. However, the condition was still the same. lol Anyway, when I was at a Best Buy (we were in line at Midnight to purchase the first FOTR DVD on August 6th), we started talking to some guys; and somehow, we began singing "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way". lol Why that selection, I still don't know! :p

I think ROTK is going to be the most protected of the three because it's the last one. We don't get another one after this, and that's kinda sad. But we have all year to grab what we can until it comes out (that is, IF you WANT to find all the spoilers you can get your hands on). ;) But I agree with Adunauriel. I think Lawrence Makoare is doing the voice. I know he's doing the movements and everything, but I'm not sure about the voice. I think he is doing the voice though. ;) :p

Voice of the Witch-King: James Earl Jones? What do you think?
I think I'm most looking forward to the part where the screen says "New Line Cinema" b/c it means I'm finally getting to see it but it's not yet even the least bit over - does that make any sense?

That feeling, like that's the last time you're going to see "New Line Cinema" on the black screen (unless you see it multiple times of course). You shake with anticipation. You're wondering what the screen is going to show first and feel like it could be anything. Then, you realize that this is the last one and there won't be another, so you want to make the best of it. Kinda like that. ;) :p

Hopefully for that scene they'll have some really enchanting music to go with it and maybe silence once the witchking dies, kinda like when Boromir gets hit by the first arrow.
