View Full Version : Will Christopher Lee always be known as Dracula?

There are many roles we know Christopher Lee for, but the role we immediately associate with him is Dracula. I know that he gets annoyed when people make Dracula jokes about him; when filming AOTC George Lucas presented him with a vampire Yoda! Do you think that a new generation will now think of him as Saruman or Count Dooku, or will he always be Dracula!

I guess so. I never saw the dracula movies, planning to do so soon. But when i talked about him with my mother the first thing she said was: "Oh, he played Dracula"

So Dracula it is. Maybe years from now they will say... "Oh he played Saruman on Lord of the Rings" but for now it's Dracula

but in the end ill always think of him as Saruman :)

Moraneah, you're well past it mate!! ;)j/k.
I think that the current generation will know him as either Saruman or Dooku as thats what most people will see him in - hes getting so much exposure as both. Its like Sean Astin - I always think of the Goonies and Rudy when I see him, but the younger kids will always think of the lovely Sam

i think they'll remember him as saruman....although he will still be known for his dracula roles! lol

For a man who has starred in 200 plus films.. its a bit sad that he is pigeonholed as Dracula... tho it was he who made Hammer a household name. I guess that some will think of him as Dracula.. but i think the younger generation will see him more as Saruman than Dooku.

well, to me, he will always be saruman. thats the most recognizable tole hes been in, for me anyways, never seen dracula, or star wars. its iwerd though i think maybe its jus the movie cuz i seen sean, elijiah, both ians, and cate blanchett in planty other movies. but all i think about when i see them is their roles in LOTR. the only people i dont do that with is hugo weavin, who will always be the guy from the matrix, liv who will always be that hot chick from aerosmiths video for crazy, and john reese davies who will always be arturo from sliders

Daisy and Moraneah!
Stop giving away our age!
We, as veterans, have a unique and priviledged position in that our perspective starts many years prior. We should use our gift to give these youngun's a bit of history And we should laugh when these incidents tickle our sence of time. No way should we feel older than these fellow Tolkien enthusiasts, only wiser. (wink)

To me he'll always be Saruman  In fact I'm about to start watching The Wicker Man in my film studies course at college so that image of him will be always in my mind ;)

OOOooo. I saw the Wicker Man a long time ago and only remember that I didn't like it. (Too gross or violent or something.)
I never saw any Hammer horror Dracula movies. But my favorites memories of Chris Lee are from his playing Henry Baskerville, Mycroft Holmes, and Sherlock Holmes (in different movies, of course). Also, now that I look out for his movies, I've recently seen him in The Four Musketeers and The Oblong Box.

BUT, Saruman and Dooku are the BEST !

I usually think of him as Francisco Scaramanga. He was so good in that role.

Well the Wicker Man was great. Real psychological horror, which was really creepy. Now Chris Less will always be Saruman...and Lord Summerisle

The first role I really saw him in was Death in the Discworld cartoons, but he's played so many other roles that it's hard to think of him as one character.

I think of him as a good versitile actor. I remember watching him as Dracula and in the Wicker Man and in Bond so I don't tend to see him as one thing. Now I can add Count Dooku and Saruman to the list. He is very good at portraying the darker characters in life.

He did a lot of films with Peter Cushing, another good versatile actor.

Yes, there was one Frankenstein movie where Peter Cushing was Victor Frankenstein and Christopher Lee was the creature. I think that was when they first met, and they became friends. They soon became known as Dracula and Van Helsing.
