I'm sure I'm not the only one who've heard funny comments when I've seen FOTR or TTT at the cinema!? Mostly from non-Tolkien people.

FOTR..
When we went out my friend overheard to young boys disappointedly discuss the movie: "nah.. it was too little blood".

And obviously, lots of people saying, at the end, "What.. does it end like that??"

TTT..
The last time I saw it a woman was sitting behind me with her boyfriend. She had obviously not read Tolkien and I kept hearing her wispering things to her boyfriend.. like when Faramir said that he was Boromir's brother "Oh.. that's why they looked so much alike!".. and she kept confusing all the hobbits.. when we saw Merry, Pippin and Treebeard I heard her say "Wait.. weren't they with that weird creature before?". lol (maybe it's not so easy to keep track of all the hobbits, I don't know.. but it sounded funny to me).
And two men next to me were wispering.. right at the beginning of the movie one of them said "Wait.. Gandalf died, right??"

I'm sure you have some more that are even more funny too.

Guy behind me and to the left:

at Aragorn off a cliff: "Oh f**k!"
at Treebeard: "Isengard's screwed"

very deadpan, very loud. grrrrrr.

Here in Sweden there was once a very famous horse named Legolas.

My dad yesterday while watching TTT:
"Legolas?! Isn't that a horse name?"

And yeah, that wasn't the only stupid thing he said at the theatre. When the movie ended and I asked him if he liked the movie he said:
"No, something like that could never happen in real life"

When Aragon is telling everyone to fall back the woman next to me says 'Why are they falling back? shouldn't they be fighting?'

My fave- teens at a recent showing of TTT- "Hey- they (Frodo and Sam) arent wearing shoes!!!"

roflmao Those are funny! I heard some too:

At my last viewing of TTT there was this woman behind me who was talking through the whole movie. The funniest thing I heard her say was during Helm's Deep, she said "he [Legolas] has pointy ears!"

The man behind me when Aragorn falls off the cliff: "Oop!"

There were others too, I wish I could remember them!

hey, saruman, i did that myself!
anyway, my own experience just this afternoon:

Faramir: ...a chance for Faramir, captain of Gondor, to show his quality...
*later in the movie*
Faramir: Prepare to leave. The ring will go to Gondor.

Annoyed woman behind me: Ok, who the hell is Gondor?!

These are all toooo funny! roflmao

Here is one that I heard recently that made me just about bust a gut... lol

* Woman sitting with her husband next to my sister and I and asking him "Honey, what's a hobbit?" :duh:

aw, u gotta pity them, it is kinda sweet... in a really pathetic way...

I dragged my mum to go see it, she didn't react much to anything, not at helm's deep, not at Haldir or gollum, or any of the obvious bits. But the Ent gets set on fire and she goes completely to pieces.

Galadriel

I was watching it with my mum the other day and she saw sam and she was like thats the elf right? I was laughing so hard and she was like whats so funny.

During the end of the film when Sam and Frodo are talking I hear
"Are hobbits...gay???"

January 16th,2003, 11:27 PM
That's awful! Why would they think that?

Ithielnor
January 17th,2003, 02:34 PM
And I know why! It might have been better for PJ to leave it alone. But that is a topic for another thread!

My friend sitting next to me: "nudge me every time it's from the book!" He jusst wont read it for himself! :)

Was there? I didn't know and I've lived in Sweden my whole life. :elfeek: I did meet a horse named Gandalf once though. :)

And that comment, I so recognize that. That's why most of my family think I'm crazy.. that I'd go watch something, and read books about something that could never happen in real life. Bah! :p

All these comments are really funny. lol Sometimes I almost feel sorry for those people, because I can imagine that it's really hard to understand all of it if you haven't read the book or haven't got anyone to explain it to you. It's funny to listen to them though. :)

I didn't know about that either, it was my dad that told me. I guess it was a very long time ago, or maybe it wasn't as famous as my dad thought... ;)
But it's a nice horse name tough...Gandalf to :)

Tar Palantir : Yeah, i'm a newbie here :)
Jepp, alltid kul med lite svenskt folk, hehe ;)

Oh, I forgot to tell you what my dad said after the Legolas-horse-name-comment...

"But he runs like a deer"

Sometimes my dad is just to funny lol

lol Runs like a deer. I guess he's sort of right though. :)

(Verkar som det finns många svenskar här då. :) Jag känner minst en till.)

I'm going again tomorrow, so I'll have to see if I'll hear any more funny comments then. After all, the movie has been out for about 5 weeks now so now is the time when most people who haven't read the books and all that will go.

I went again today. No particularly funny comments, except that lots of people said "No!!" out loud when Aragorn fell.

Most people seemed to have a never-ending suply of sweets and popcorn and all sorts of things though, so I hardly even heard what they said in the movie at times. verymad

I know EXACTLY what you mean! When I saw the movie a week ago the girl in the seat next to me had a bag of potato chips, and was eating from it during the whole movie!
I hate that noise! Potatochipsbags at theatres should be forbidden!

Polly Sandybanks
January 18th,2003, 08:15 PM
Well at least if people can't eat carefully. But I guess they just don't think about other people!?
If I'm eating anything at the cinema I try to only eat during the noisy scenes of the movie so that I'll disturb people as little as possible.. you can do all that quietly you know. But oh well.. :)

I only remember one time when the whole room was completely silent.. and that was the premiere of TTT. lol Everybody were too busy concentrating on the movie. That was lovely. :)

I rather like the comments, they make me laugh so much....... lol

The best ones come from my own family. Upon seeing Faramir (and apparetnly mistaking him for someone else): "Did he come back from the dead, too, like Gandalf?" My mother when Aragorn went over the cliff: "OH NO!!! He was so handsome...." :o My twelve year old brother, very fond of Sam, practicly jumped out of his seat when Frodo held the sword to his throat... "THAT LITTLE......" he said and then luckily caught himself. ;) There were several from surrounding viewers, but I'm in a hurry.....

Evenstar
January 18th,2003, 10:08 PM
My friends were the worst people to see a movie with coz it was them who made all the comments!

Legolas gives Aragorn the necklace, Eowyn watches with her eyes wiiiiiide open :elfeek: and my friend goes 'I hope she hasn't got the wrong idea!'

And whenever Legolas goes shield-sliding down the Helm's deep wall or does that trick where he swings up onto the horse by holding onto its mane there was loads of screaming from my friends.

And of course, 'Gollum's so horny' in the interval... :elfeek:

I'll leave it at that now!

Wilwarin
January 18th,2003, 10:26 PM
I just saw it again yesterday, but there were only four other people in the theater besides me and my brother and sister. So I didn't hear any comments. In fact, those four people were silent through the entire movie! Except the lady bhind me laughed pretty hard when Gimli says "You could have picked a better spot". That was the only sound I heard from any of them the whole time! (Maybe it was their 5th viewing too?)

Polly Sandybanks
January 19th,2003, 11:19 AM
When Gandalf the White appeared in Fangorn I heard a really loud, impressed wisper behind me "Gandalf has come back!!"

Lots of other people made comments too, but I couldn't hear most of them, unfortunately, since some people made too much noise eating their sweets and popcorn.

At the part when Legolas was "skateboarding" (or whatever you call that) down the stairs, My friend shouted: "Oh my god! Legolas is skateboarding!!!" It sounded real funny when she said that.

Lady of the Rings

roflmao All those comments are so funny!

The funniest things that happened in the cinema I was in; was all the girls (including myself :naughty: ) Whooing as Legolas appeared on the screen for the first time, and all the people in the theatre 'oohing' and 'agghhing' when Leggy sk8te boarded down the stairs, when he got on the horse, when aragorn went over the edge..etc..

Yah I went ands saw it again yesterday and the people in the theater were really loud and at the part when Aragorn falls of the cliff a number of people behind me went oh no really loud. Also when the Ents go to war against Isengard one guy behind me went you go trees. He then said that is soo cool. And on my left i had one kid that at the battle of Helm Deep was pretending he was there. i mean he was petending to fight and everything. I was laughing so hard by the end.

i heard a few comments
a couple behind me who were on their first date
every time someone new came on screen, she goes "now who is that, what does he do?"
eventually the guy told her to read the books which cracked me up.

when legolas thought aragorn was dead, some kid shouted "we love you legolas!" and many ppl laughed

when eowyn throught aragorn was dead, a lady near me said "she's pathetic."

and most ppl clapped when gandalf showed up at helm's deep

When I saw TTT for the first time, (midnight show) there was an Orlando Bloom Official Fan Club there and when he came on the screen, they all starting jumping up and down screaming (like 12year old girls.....) and they screamed a LOT so we complained on got free tickets. When we came back for the second show, when Gandolf returned on the 5 day, the guy in front of me stood up and cheered like at a football game and dropped 2 bottles (of unknown substance) and they hit the floor and shattered and you could hear it and everyone laughing at him. people!

One of the times during FotR I sat next to a girl who haven't read the books so when Elrond said "I was there Gandalf, I was there 3000 years ago" she said "as if!!" lol

Did she not get the point?

Odödligheten, fantasy?

In one of Swedens newspapers (Aftonbladet) there is a reviewer (Henrik Rudin)who thought that Final Fantasy was really bad, because it was what it is. Fantasy.
I think this applies to what Squirrel (ekorre) said.

There was a guy right in front of me who laughed all the time. At everything. It was like: orc dies - he laughs. Haldir arrives: he laughs. Haldir dies- he laughs Problem was when everyone else was laughing he was silent.
There was also someone eating some kind of crisps or something that stank to high heaven.

Well the people that know nothing about the movies or the books just drive me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!! This one lady sat behind me in the theater and the whole time she kept asking the guy beside her stuff about the movie and the sad thing was he didnt know the answer and then they just sat there and tried to guess why this and that happened OMG IT DROVE ME NUTS they did it troughout the whole movie!

This isnt necessarily a "funny" comment, but last week I went to see the Two Towers on a wet wednesday afternoon. As I had hoped the theatre was deserted, just myself and a young couple.
Half way through the movie they started having sex and once they finished they just left the theatre.
Blasphemy Surely! Why didnt they go and see Just Married!

The second time i saw TTT, I went with a friend and her sister. Right at the beginning when they show Gandalf fall with the Balrog and he says 'Fly you fools', my friends sister turns to her and goes...."..why did he say 'hi you fools?' lol

This isn't really a funny comment..just something dumb and embarrasing i said during my first viewing of TTT.
Just before Legolas got on the horse, I turned to my friend and MEANT to say 'Watch how Leoglas gets on the horse'.....but what came out was.."watch how Legolas gets on the elf.." :elfeek:

...And I wondered why my friend gave me a funny look

I have seen the movie 6 times now and the one comment that I can think of is the one that my friend made. Can't remember if it was during or after the movie, but she said to me.

"How many points do you think those Lembas breads are worth?"

(to those of you who don't understand that..both of us have joined the weightwatchers and we count our food in points)

Also..not funny.. but just when Sam was giving his fab speach..some people disturbed it by announcing that they were leaving. almost helped them! ;) ;)

When I went to see the Fellowship of the Ring for the 2nd time in theatre, there were a bunch of loopy people in front of us. OMG its was sooo annoying! When the Ring Wraith came and said "Ssshhhiirrreee.... Bagggiiinnnssss" to the hobbit, they all screamed! One lady goes "What the hell was that!" then every time they saw one of the Nazgul they all shreiked! When Frodo was running to the ferry, they were all like "RUN!!! RUN!!! HURRY HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU!". When Gandalf fell they all screamed and said "WHAT?! He can't die!". They all were soo loud.

When I went to see The Two Towers for teh 2nd time with my friend there was a fat guy sitting behind us telling his son everythign that was coming up in the movie. It was my friends first time seeing it. I was so mad. Funny how ppl can ruin a good movie!

Tonight I went with some friends to see the "Two Towers" again and two ummm..."interesting" things happened..

- A couple sitting in front of us a few seats down decided that during the beginning of the movie was the "perfect" time to talk about their day, etc (and they were not whispering either). :archer:

-Some guy sitting in the back kept whistling every time Liv Tyler appeared.... roflmao

Polly Sandybanks
February 7th,2003, 08:17 AM
I went to see it a few days ago too. And just when Gollum first appear a whisper could be heard .. "Welcome my preciousssss" lol

Also.. there was a really odd reaction from some lady at the back at the very end of the movie.. when Gollum talks to himself. First it was ok, she did laugh a little bit too loud perhaps, but still.. she laughed at everything that everyone else laughed at. But then Gollum said "We could let HER do it!... blabla" and she just laughed and laughed... everybody else were quiet. And the funny thing was that we hadn't heard her at all before, it was as if she had just woke up or something. Odd. Funny though. lol

And during Sam's lovely speech.. just when it went quiet.. Bramble's (I went with Bramble) bag of sweets suddenly decided to slip from her lap and her arm and hand went out to catch it before it fell.. resulting in a loud.. sound. lol

i experienced funny comments after the movie. after fotr my boyfriend was really sad that gandalf had died. "why did he die? they are lost now. they can't do that!" and i was like "yeah, well, **** happens!" and giggling to myself.
after ttt he was bugging me who SHE was, but i wouldn't tell. he should really read the books!

Last time i saw the movie there was a little boy sitting with his mom in front of me. Everytime a characters name was mentioned in the movie he goes: "Mom! I know who Aragorn is!" "Mom! I know who Gollum is!" "Mom! I know who Gandalf is" and so on... And at the battle of helms deep scenes he started crying. Aaarggh. Poor kid :(
He couldn't have been older than four or maybe five years old, why would you take such a young kid to go se a movie like the two towers?!

I can't believe they let them in when they're that young. Or that their parents would actually bring them to a movie like that. There's a reason that it's PG13 or whatever it is in whichever country you're in. I can imagine that at least some parts of it can be really scary for someone that young.

This wasn't heard at a LOTR movie, but it's related: During the preview for Pirates of the Caribbean, the voiceover is listing the actors and this woman a couple seats over from me goes, "Oh, yeah!" when the voice said "Orlando Bloom". I looked over and said "I hear ya, sister." lol

Some ppl behind me were lobbing malteasers and minstrels at me the entire time the second time I saw it.... it was soooooo irritating!
At my 3rd showing there was this girl next to me with her boyfriend, I think, and when Aragorn first came on (you know, when he's lying down listening) this girl went REALLY loudly "Who's THAT?" And after that every time a new character came on she'd say that to the guy next to her. It was really annoying, but the poor guy looked so embarassed!
4th time people were cheering when Gandalf and Eomer came at Hem's Deep.... but I was too, so it didn't bother me. A kid next to me started crying when Aragorn fell off the cliff as well. She sounded so upset I just leaned over and whispered "It's okay, he's not dead!" and she cheered up. ^_^

i just saw ttt a little while ago with a friend
and she said she loved the first one so i assumed she knew the basics

during the part where the uruk-hai are carrying merry and pippin, she leans over and asks "are they carrying them piggy-back or have they captured them?"
roflmao
a little while later when frodo and sam are with gollum
she leans over and says "i thought he dropped his broach....."
and i said "no that was the other two, there are four hobbits, two are with the trees now, and two are with gollum."
and she goes "no way!"

at the very beginning of the helm's deep battle, when the first guy was killed with an arrow, she yells "sucks to be you!"

i could not stop laughing at her!

yeah, in my many viewings i got the typical ****:
-aragorn/cliff "oops"
-helms deep/arrow "someone ****ed up"
-screaming girls for orlando
-too many people laughing for gollums schitzo scene

some others i heard:
-at the end of sams speech frodo is all "what are we holding onto sam?" and someguy yells "i think sams holding onto yer **** you gay bastards"
-the ever famous "whos that, what r they doing, why are they doign that, etc" but i heard one girl finally tell her bf(?) SHUT THE **** UP AND WATCH THE 1ST MOVIE AGAIN!! everyone clapped
-one guy that i guess had seen it before tired to be "cool" and say the lines alogn with the movie, well it gets to the "PO-TA-TOES" scene and right before it the guy yells "TO-MA-TOES"
-then of course theres all the superdruper hardcore fans who woudl yell "false, didnt happen like that" everytime there was a change from the book.

and on a side note, not from LOTR, but back when i saw face off and travolta get shot, bullet goes through him and into his kid and kills his kid, it flashes a few years forward and shows travolta fine, my friend whispers to me, "how did he live through that?" and he was so quiet i coudl barely hear him, but some guy all the way on the other side of the theater has super hearing and screams "thats what im sayign buddy, aint no way barbarino could live through hat ****, this movie sucks!" the guy sounded drunk,m but it was funn

Hehe here is a comment from outside the cinema... but anyway:

My little brother had his friend over last friday and we were just talking (he is 9 by the way) and someone asked him if he had seen the two towers, and he had, so i asked him what happened in it:

'Well, Gandalf fell off the mountain with that thing that looked like a bat and they fell for a long way but he killed it in the end. And Frodo and Sam were fighting with that goblin-thing, Gollum, and they caught him and dragged him into Mordor on a rope but he didn't like it so they took it off him. And Strider and his friends went into the wood where they saw Gandalf and they started fighting him because they thought he was someone else, but then they saw it was Gandalf so he got his pet horse Shadowfax, only its name wasn't really Shadowfax that's just what he called it, and they went to that city where the man who looked like a snake was scaring the princess.'

Well, I can ask that question too.

Why do those people (elves, hobbits, orcs) have pointy ears?
It wasn't described in the books.

And, nope, no news on this front. Because, unfortulatly the closest cinema to my place doesn't show TTT any longer. So. only my family then ;)

I went and say TTT again yesterday and it was still really crowded in the theater. Hobbitfriend and I almost didn't find a seat. Anyways the guy sitting next to me was with his son and you could tell was there first time. The were getting excited about the battles with the Wargs and were talking thur all of Helms Deep. They also laughed in at all of Gimli jokes.

Of course I had seen the movie any time sby now and didn't jump anymore at certain parts or laugh at Gimli. They kept looking at me like I was a luntic because I just sat there and never moved.

If i was a girl i would totally dig that White dude with the pointy ears that just passed by ...
his Girlfriend: You need some plastic surgery to make me happy

They thought they whispered but the row in front and the row in back where laughing ... esp me ...

When Frodo and Sam where in the boat leaving the fellowship: A guy so idiotic said: See I TOLD YOU! They are going to have 'fun' and destroy the ring and show everyone their 'affection' for one another ...

then here was another one
Girl: Omgsh! They are GAY!

in TTT:
When Saruman sees that the Ents destroyed Isenguard ... a guy and his girlfriend was sitting in front of me :

When Treebeard comes to the part where all the trees have been cut and the ground burned and everything by the orcs, when, of course, it is all silent, I said fairly lowdly, after Treebeard remarks that "there is no curse in elvish nor the tongues of men to account for this treachery" or something like that, "Tree-hugger!" I sware the guy behind me laughed.

And then there's the part where Sam and Frodo, tied up, are being put back into the cave, I, of course, remarked, "Well, the little hobbits are being passed around..." No more comment needed?

Then there's the part where Legolas slides down on the shield, my friend goes, "All we need is a well - placed orc with a pike...the pansy" And I go, "That's me pansy!" That was when it first came out and I still loved Legolas. Now, I find the fangirls so annoying and disgusting that I have lost most interest in him.

Then it was funny when my two friends were hugging each other and 'crying' during the Arwen/Aragorn kissing scene. They love their Estel. Ugh.

Then there's when my friend and I had to go to the bathroom pretty bad, so we (I regret) went during the Arwen/Aragorn scene (it was the third time...), but came back for the Aragorn/Arwen/Elrond scene. Soon after, I whisper to my friend, "Well, I'm glad we decided to go to the bathroom. So much water!" It was the part where Aragorn floats in the water.

There's more, I know. I'll think of them. Some might not be appropriate...roflmao

I went to see TTT again with my friend and her sister. When Aragorn kicks the helmet and screams I said very quietly "that's when he breaks his toe" and the woman sitting behind me gave me a hard poke in the back and told me off for talking!
She then let her kid talk through the whole rest of the film.
"Why is Gandalf white? Why? Is it cos he's a good guy? Where's Gandalf the Grey?" etc etc throughout all the rest of the film.

One other comment during the battle when it starts raining and the rain drops sound really loud when they hit the armour. Someone says "Someone left a chamberpot outside in the rain?"

Oh and the first shot of Aragorn, "Is he taking a nap?"

*legolas kills the oliphant(?)* *girly mocking tone* "MY HERO!!!"
*Gimli is excited to see frodo in good health* *proud fatherly tone* "Come to papa Gimli!"

I saw RotK for the second time today.

Frodo in Selob's lair. Sees lots of webs everywhere. Sees lots of dead orcs and things stuck in webs. Gets caught in webs himself. Finally shelob comes into view. Chases Frodo around a bit. Frodo gets caught in webs. Kid behind me: "I KNEW those were spider webs!" lol

This same kid wouldn't shut up through the whole movie! And he didn't whisper either! He was telling his dad the name of every character and animal that came on the screen! "That's King Thedoen." "Those are Oliphants." "There's Shadowfax." on and on an on. I glared at him about a dozen times, but he wouldn't shut up!

Then there were these boys behind and to my left. There were four or five of them, all about 16 or 17. They were laughing through the whole film! They laughed when Gandalf hit Denethor, they laughed when Pippin sang, and when Frodo was stung by Shelob, and when Gollum and Frodo were fighting at the Crack of Doom. Even when Arwen showed up at the Coronation. I was sure they thought the movie was just a kick. But then, when Frodo was saying good-bye at the Gray Havens I heard no more laughter, but crying! I turned around and saw all five of them in tears! I was shocked! They weren't just getting a little misty, they were really crying and wiping tears from their faces.

lol Then there was this girl behind and to my right. When Frodo gets stung by Shelob she jumped up out of her chair and screamed! The she sat down again very slowly. She was so shocked! I don't think she knew that was going to happen!

One of my friends started making little comments at the end of the movie (I wish he would have just sat quietly and watched the rest of it, but some of his comments were funny). I remember one in particular concerning the very last scene when Sam and Rosie are there with their two children.

He said in a shocked tone, "What! They've allready got two kids! But they just barely got married!!"

And after seeing just how outnumbered Aragorn and Co. were at the Black Gate, he said desparingingly, "Oh shoot, they're screwed. They can't win with that many."

He obviously hasn't read the books . . .

December 20th,2003, 11:38 PM
My mom hasn't read the books, and probibly never will. Back when TTT came out she was always asking me how RotK ended and what happens to Frodo. I didn't want to give it away because I wanted her to find out for herself. So I just told her that Frodo does get to Mt Doom, but he isn't able to throw the Ring into the fire. So my mom asks me if he dies at the end. All I say is "I'm not going to tell you what happens at the end, wait and see". So she is convinced at this poit that Frodo dies! For a whole year she thinks this. Then when we finally see RotK she is waiting through the whole movie for that one scene of Frodo dying. But he doesn't die. The first thing she said when the movie was over is "But he didn't die! I thought Frodo dies!" I said "I never once said he dies!" lol

AND HE BELIEVED ME!!!!He's thought that for nearly a year!roflmao And he's going to see it today.UH OH!!He'll kill me when he finds out that I tricked him.lol But when my other(huge Leggy fan)heard this she cried her eyes out!:o So I had to tell her but my mum cried when she thought Frodo was going to die.

-At Helm's Deep, when they show the guy with one eye gouged out:

'He's got no eye!!!'

-Also during TTT:

During RotK

-When Frodo is walking alone, and Shelob is over him:

'Oh, shoot!'

-When Frodo says, 'The Ring is mine!':

[curse word]!

-When Legolas visits Frodo, and at the Coronation:

'He's so fine!' :mmmm:

Grandma: "What?"

Me: "It's Smeagol!"

When we went on Saturday night, it was sold out of course. One guy brought his guitar and was strumming on it while we waited for the movie to start. The ushers finally confiscated it, I suppose they thought he would start a riot if he started playing it during the movie.roflmao roflmao

When I saw Return of the King, there were these girls sitting behind me that I didn't see, but I certainly heard them. Every time something happened to Frodo they would inhale (loudly) or make some comment like, "He can't be dead!" or "No, he's not dead!" or "I want to marry him!"

(Okay, they didn't really say the last one, but I'm sure they were thinking it.)

My friends all wanted to turn around and smack them both. I thought it was rather hilarious.

Then at the scene when Sam comes back home some guy way in the back shouted, "Oh my God! It's not ****ing over yet!?"

I wanted to smack him.

This is really bad. I was thinking the same thing too lol And my friend even covered her eyes.

There were two guys behind us, and I had absolutely no clue why they were there. They kept kicking the back of my seat at tear-jerker moments and commenting on "what a bunch of geeks" were watching the movie. verymad The nerve! Just went for my third ROTK viewing today... this was an afternoon show, so there were a lot of teenagers and kids there. I didn't hear any particular comments (since most of the kids were sitting near the back), but it was really shocking to me how much people were laughing... at really serious parts.

The worst for that, though, was when TTT was in the theatres. People would always start laughing their heads off at Gollum's 'schizo' monologue. I always found it quite disturbing that people found that funny.

Just heard this moment from a friend: "It was cool when that chick stood up there and killed the Nazgul"

It's so unfair, I've only seen it once! Anyway, when I did go, I only heard one comment. At one of the fade outs (I don't know which one, the really long one that lasted forever just after the destruction of the Ring), a little girl (probably 10 at the most) in front of me said "That's it, it's over" I actually expected a lot of people to get up just then, but not a single person did (that I saw or heard anyway).

December 25th,2003, 08:34 PM
at my cinema some poeple actually did get up and leave after the first fadeout!

last year i told my boyfriend that they wouldn't make it, that they wouldn't destryo the ring! so, before we went to the cinema he told everyone that it was a stupid movie cause it didn't have a happy end. boy, was he surprised!

December 27th,2003, 11:32 PM
lol It did kind of look like that for a second didn't it?

I saw RotK for the third time on Chrismas day. This time I heard quite a few comments.

When the first big rock falls on the orcs in the battle the guy behind me said "ouch!" really loud, as if the rock fell on him! lol

When the Rohirim finally arive at the battle a girl in the back yelled out "Finally!"

Eowyn: "I am no man!" Woman infront of me: "YES!"

The most anoying of all is when Frodo got caught in the web at the exit to Selob's lair and Shelob is coming up behind him. A boy behind us started singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider"! He kept on singing it even after Frodo got away and started fighting with Gollum!

There were a few others too, but I'll post them later.

Mánalinya
December 28th,2003, 12:54 AM
I just remember the first time I saw RoTK, when Frodo got stung by Shelob, there was a girl behind who whispered to her friend "see, I told you he dies". Then at the end of the movie, she went on, "What? They got that wrong. Frodo dies. I know he dies! They got that wrong!"
How stupid does she think PJ is? Even he wouldn't change something like that.

Wilwarin
December 28th,2003, 04:06 AM
And boy am I glad he didn't! When Frodo was hanging off the edge of the Crack of Doom and he had that look in his eye, as if he was giving up, then Sam says "Don't you let go", I said "Yeah, you better not!" I almost thought, for just a second, that PJ was going to kill Frodo off. I was so relieved!

Lady Luthien
December 28th,2003, 05:06 AM
Nooo...PJ would never do that!! lol

Today at the theater, someone's cell phone rang which I saw 3 things wrong with. 1). You don't leave your cell phone on during a movie, esp. Return of the King!! 2). You don't then proceed to talk on your cell phone in the middle of the movie!! 3). you shouldn't do it loudly either...he wasn't even whispering he was like yelling into his phone! But then the funny part...this huge redneck person got up and shouted at the guy on his phone...he goes "Get of your phone!" and then the other guy was like "I can talk on my damn phone if I see fit, and then proceeded to say a lot of words that I can't post here...basically...he cussed him out! lol Then, another guy cut in and goes "Are you paying for my ticket?" to the person on the phone. Then someone else goes "Let it go!" lol Then the guy on the phone very loudly says " 'ey, I'll call you back, man." and walks out of the theater..and the big huge guy follows him out with a really perturbed look on his face...though it was a major distraction it was really quite funny lol

Wilwarin
December 28th,2003, 09:21 PM
Wow. I've heard cell phones ring in the theater before, but nothing like that!

Here's some more from the last time I saw RotK:

When Faramir is first laid out on the pyre, the woman next to me said to her husband: "Is that Borormir, or Faramir?" haha! yeah, it's Boromir! They draged his body out of the river and now they're burying it! You must have missed that part? lol

When Frodo is looking at the Tower of Cirith Ungol and Shelob is sneeking up on him a boy behind us said "Look up, Frodo, look up!"

As soon as "The End" appeared on the screen another boy (about ten) said "That wasn't as scary as I thought it would be".

The second time I saw RotK, as soon as it said "The End" a boy behind me said to his dad "Can we go play video games now?" He didn't even let the credits role first! He didn't even say "Wow! That was a cool movie!" no, it's "can we play video games now?"! Like that's all he could think of through the whole movie!

Not just you; there was one kid at my school who never saw the other two movies, but when he went to see RotK he was in the bathroom at the part with Arwen before the coronation. So, he thought that Aragorn looked really gay with the crown on at the end. Unfortunately for him, he voiced this thought. I'd loved to have been there. lol

i went to the theater to watch rotk for the 4th time, but apparently there were people there who hadn't seen the movie yet. when shelob crawls out of her lair to go after frodo, there was a collective gasp from the audience and when she is above him, ready to sting, there was a collective shriek! no individuals in this cinema!

Wilwarin
December 30th,2003, 06:27 PM
That happened in my cinema too the third time I saw it. lol

Speaking of collective gasps, though it isn't LotR related. All six times I saw PotC in the cinema, and when is shows the monkey's face up close and he's sooo cute! EVERYONE in the theater collectively goes "Aaww". I always thought it was strange too, because the volume was the same no matter how many people were there. Once there was only two other people in there besides me and my brother and sister, but still there was this loud "Aaww" at that scene. So I began wondering if it wasn't on the soundrack! So when the movie finally came out on DVD I listened, and sure enough, it's on the soundtrack. Though I think it's just a creeking of the ship. But it sure fooled me. lol

In my cinema, as Shelob creeps above Frodo, there was a HUGE gasp from everyone in the audience, which made everyone laugh ,even though that part was scary lol
And then some guy said out loud "Run Frodo!" Which made everyone laugh again.

Also, at the first fade out at Mt Doom, some girl behind me exclaimed quite loudly "That better not be the end!" lol

That was only my first viewing, I'll keep my ears peeled for more next time ;) lol

When I saw ROTK for the third time, there was this little boy sitting behind me, and when they show Arwen and her entorage walking through the forest at the beginning, he said to his dad, "Daddy, daddy!! Are those the BAD GUYS????" lol Just thinking of elves as bad guys cracks me up...;) And then of course there's always that guy who said such insightful comments as "oh f***" "oh s***" and *oh d***" at key points in the story, like frodo getting "killed" by Shelob, etc...;)

littlegreenwoman

Luthien Tinuviel
January 4th,2004, 05:25 PM
When Legolas killed the mumakil...and wasn't there something to do with a trunk (I really need to see it again) people applauded, then when Eowyn killed the Witch-king of course.

littlegreenwoman
January 4th,2004, 08:51 PM
well, he slid down the trunk ...

i heard from some people that they didn't like eowyn's "i am no man!"-scene because it was so obvious! they said it twice in the film: "no man *hint hint* can kill him!" i still liked it! in the book it was such a revelation!

Luthien Tinuviel
January 5th,2004, 12:03 AM
I thought he did something like that, but I was afraid I was getting TTT and ROTK mixed together (slides down the stairs, slides down the trunk).

Yeah, it did kind of give away the fact that it was Eowyn, that and Pippin said when he got on the horse "my lady" didn't he?

LOL

Oh my gosh, this wasn't a funny comment but when my sister, her husband, my neice and her two friends went to see ROTK yesterday, this guy in front of my sister turns around to her and says, "Can't you be quiet for five minutes?"

I was five or six rows behind my sister and I could hear him LOUD and CLEAR. pfbbt verymad What a jerk-face. I couldn't believe the guy had said that to my sister. She said it was all she could do to keep from saying something or doing something to that guy. She was mad at my brother-in-law because he didn't defend her. I askjed my sister, "Why didn't you bonl him on the head?" She told me that she shoudl have switched seats with me and see what that guy thought....I cheer at EVERYTHING.

On to a happier subject...I could hear the collective gasp from everyone when Shelob came out of her lair on the final leg to get Frodo...and then another when she released her sting and got him. And then the cheering when Eowyn kicked Nazgul rear, and when Sam beat up the orcs at the tower.

And for some reason, everyone laughed when Frodo and Sam went over the ridge in their orc gear!

The first time I went to see RotK when the Smeagol took the Ring from Deagol this little 6-year-old jumps up and declares "It's Gollum!!!"

My brother and I were the only people who laughed out loud when Gandalf whooped Denethor, and when Denethor said to Merry, "Go now and die in whatever manner seems best to you." or something like that...I dunno I don't think they were supposed to be funny scenes but for some reason they just made us laugh lol...and everyone turned around and glared at us...

and LA: I thought the part when Sam and Frodo came over the ridge in their Orc-gear was funny too...just b/c they were so little, and Orcs are supposed to be so much taller...and there they were like little Orc children or something with their armor almost dragging on the ground lol (some people just have a weird sense of humor, like me ;))

People laughed when Theoden was DYING at my theater!! :elfeek: And everytime I've been to see Rotk I've heard people laugh when Sam picks up Frodo when he's all wrapped up by Shelob and Sam thinks he's dead....now I admit that it does look a bit ridiculous, but it's NOT FUNNY!! verymad Ah well, at least they cheered when Eowyn killed the Witchking ;) (which I enjoyed as well, even though people thought the whole "I am no man" thing was too obvious)

Well...I gotta a couple from when we went on Saturday to see it and celebrate Tolkien's B-day...

I got elboed a couple of times by my wife for cheering a bit too loudly at the parts I liked. (Ride of the Rohirrim, Eowyn whacking the Fell Beast's head off, etc, etc.)

The collective gasp at the 1st sight of Shelob, another when she is shown creeping up on Frodo, and I thought this was kewl, but there was a collective scream when she stung him! lol The audience in our theatre was waaaaaaayyyy into it!

Oh...and of course the folks that clapped when the screen went black the first time.....then again.......while we just sat and snickered. lol

LOL, great, I wish I had the nerve to yell at people Luthien, roflmao I was really angry because the 2nd time I went like 5 people went to the bathrooom during the movie and someone brought their baby... both times that I went either no one clapped but the 2nd I went me and my friend would clap .And the 2nd time I went there was this really funny guy next to us, He would cheer all the time at all the right spots, he was the only one too and when Denethor goes off the Cliff, the Guy turns to my friend and was like I always thought Denethor was a flaming idiot. When my friends went ( a differnt time than me) one of my friends cheered for Sam when he married Rosie and it was really funny because after she cheered it was quiet and all went silent. Then another one of my friends said that everyone would clap in the wrong spot, like when a battle had just began, then one someone would kick orc tail, no one clapped and my friend was thinking to themselve, now is a good time to clap, but it was quiet.lol

Got some funny stuff after seeing ROTK today(with mates who haven't seen it)
First the woman behind me fell asleep in the first half hour and woke with a start during Pellanor
EVERYONE in the cinema apart from me jumped when Frodo got stabbed(quite intresting seeing a load of heads go up in rythm, I was sitting near the back)
When the worm at the begginning came on my mate said loudly "What is that?!"roflmao (I was with funny mates)
I had them both clinging to me when Shelob came on(bless!!)and when she was above Frodo my mate says"Look up Frodo!!!!"lol followed by a loud "EEEEEEW!!"when he started foaming
:mmmm:
When Frodo had his finger bitten off and the blood splurted towards the screen they both went "That's gross!"lol (they are squeamish)
Legolas's and Frodo's last shot it went completely silent so my mate took that oppetunity to go "PHWOAR!!!!"loudly
When it looked like Merry got squished she asked me if he did so I said yes and she nearly cried(aaaaaw)
I took a funny opertunity to make the whole cinema laugh. When a fireball came over in Minas Tirith me(and a few others )went "Goodness gracious great balls of fire!" and when Denethor ran accorss the citadel alight I sang "Burn baby burn!" follwed by when he throws himself off"Thats the way ah huh ah huh he likes it!"Everyone in the cinema laughed
They both cried at the end.
All in all it was really funny and they cheered in the right places and laguhed in the right places(and a few wrong):)

If I remeber any more I will post them!

When my cousin was watching FotR for the first time, at the end when Frodo says, 'I don't suppose we'll ever see them again,' and Sam says, 'We may yet, Mr. Frodo. We may,' and Frodo goes 'Sam...' [loooong pause] 'I'm glad you're with me,' at the pause, my cousin said, 'Call me Frodo!' I don't know if that made sense, the way I put it, but it was hilarious at the time!

oh, come on! don't you ever make fun of them? i love the books, i love the movies but some scenes are just ... well, you can also look at them from another angle. mockery is the sincerest form of flattery ... or something like that.

Every single time I went to see one of the movies someone said something funny! :jester: Here are a few:

When Frodo was in Shelob's lair saying "Gollum where are you?!" the "tense" moment and all. This little kid stands up and says: "Gollum, Gollum! Where's Gollum?!!! Everyone turned around and started laughing. His mom had to drag him out of the theatre. :gollum:

When Denethor was running around on fire. this guy next to me says: "Your supposed to stop, drop, and roll!" roflmao

When tree beard was discussing if they should go to help with the war this lady behind me shouts. "Oh come and make your freakin decision!!! I mean those adorable fellowship people are probaly being killed as you speak!!!(Obviously she did not read the books.....) :boohoo:

When Smeagol was hooking the worm this guy leans next to me and says: What the heck are they doing? That's gross.
I told him he was hooking a worm hobbit style and if he had a problem he should leave this very moment. He stared at me for awhile..... :hyper:

One more:

When Legolas walks unto screen at the end, a girl whispers beside me to her friend: Hey, I didn't know that guy was a king. :nono:

OMG, when I saw ROTK with my cuz, (and conviently forgot to tell my dad so he would take me ;)) There were these people behind us who kept talking REALLY loudly! pfbbt I was soooooooo ready to throw a skittle at them.....anyway, they just kept having conversations while OTHER PEOPLE WHERE TRYING TO ENJOY IT, and once during a scene when Gollum came on, this woman said, "I'm serious, I think he's cute!", and they just kept talking! I mean, I pity Gollum, but I wouldn't go THAT far!

One of my most annoying RotK experiences:
SAM in Cirith Ungol: "This is for Frodo! This is for my old Gaffer!" *hacking at the orcs*
LITTLE KID IN BACK ROW (LOUDLY): "My old what? My old grandma? Did he say grandma? Mom, did he say 'my old grandma'?"
He just went on and on and ON...part of me was like verymad ,and the other part was just lol

One that I loved was when I was staying with my grandparents and they took me to see Spiderman (the first one).

*spider drops onto Peter Parker's hand*
MY GRANDMA: *whispers* "That spider's going to bite him."

I was talking to my dad once and I mentioned the Fellowship of the Ring. He said "Aren't those the guys who ride on scooters?" :o

Well where I come from everyone laughs to relieve tense or embarassing moments. So at all the tense or teary or sad or embarassing moments during the movies (which are quite often if you think of it), there are at least half the room laughing. Also everyone talks througout the movie. Don't ask me why. :mmmm:

Once, my dad was grading an English paper of mine (I'm homeschooled) and I mentioned how I was dreading the next one. My dad waved a hand at my little sister's LotR pillow (which had Leggy, Gimli, Aragorn, and Eomer on it) and said, "Nicholas will be proud of you if you do well!!" I couldn't figure out what he was talking about. I left it at that until later I realized he was talking about LEGOLAS!! Only he said Nicholas. lol

I took one of my younger sisters to see RotK and when Theoden is riding through the encampment he shouts, "Where are the Riders from Snowbourn?". My sister said really loudly, "Guys on snowboards?! Where is he gonna get guys on snowboards? It isn't even snowing, how are they going to help?" I shushed her and explained everything.

well, another one of my sisters was wondering what Pippin said when Gandalf told him to go back and get out of the fighting. Pippin says, "You called us out to fight." my sister thought he said, "The soldiers don't know how to fight."

haha... I saw it for the first time with my aunt and uncle, who hadn't read the book. It was hilarious, they were getting the names horribly wrong and having arguments about the plotline...

- 'gandalf' somehow was mashed together with 'gondor' to become 'Gandorf'

- a conversation between my aunt and uncle, regarding aragorn and eowyn: "I thought that Argon should have married the blonde one!" "But he couldn't!" "Why not?" "Because he was goin' out with the fairies!"

- another time, i was seated next to a man with a cell phone and two 4-to-8-year-old sons. one asked the same question every time anyone died (Faramir, Denethor, Boromir, etc- "Is he dead? Is he dead yet?") The other was trying to count how many times people kissed throughout the movie, and at the end he jumped up and yelled, "SIX!"

- the worst, though, was the guy with the cell phone. He was quiet most of the time, until the last scene where Frodo hugs Sam and gets on the boat, when he suddenly remarked, "Jeez, these hobbits cry a lot!" Wauuugghhh! I could have whacked him for that!

Other than that, my movie experience was very nice ~_^

I know what you mean with the Gandorf thing...my parents did something real similar with Saruman and Sauron and Balrog. For Saruman they did something like Sorry-ray-man. For Sauron it was Sour-iron. And for the Balrog it was Belrock.

I used to call Eowyn and Eomer, Eh-ow-in and Eh-o-mare, instead of A-o-wyn and A-o-mer.

lol roflmao lol OMG, thats hilarious! Fairies..........foolish mortals. Eowyn is not speshual (my own word ;) ) enough for Aragorn. My mom is a total failure too. She hasn't read the books, and can hardly retain any info for the movies. She kept making stupid comments when we watched ROTK the other day. And when Frodo was in Shelob's lair, she didn't have a clue. I mean, he's in this huge cave with huge sticky spider webs in it and I was like (sarcasticly) "3 guesses what he's gonna get attacked by" and my mom was like  .

When we saw ROTK for the second time (only several hours after the first time lol We saw it the first time at midnight the night before, slept a while, then got up, and saw it again. lol ), the theatre was really crowded. We were stuck next to this woman who happened to be an araknaphobiac! (Someone who's REALLY scared of spiders) You can tell where this is going..... roflmao roflmao roflmao roflmao So all during the scene with Shelob, she was making all thes grunting noises and moans. It was not at all funny at the moment, but it's really funny to think about now. "Oh, yes, I'm terrified of spiders-lets go see ROTK and watch this huge, evil spider bite the main character." lol Common sense, eh.

JemFinch
September 8th,2004, 11:27 PM
Oh, yeah.... lol The same time we got stuck with the araknaphobiac, there was also this mentally handicapped guy in the front row. When Frodo was holding the ring over the fire, he was gripping his hair, rocking back and forth, yelling "Throw it in! Throw it in! Throw it in!" lol Then, at the ending, at Aragorn's coronation, and Arwen first comes out from behind the banner, he got so excited and said, "It's his DAUGHTER!" (Talking about Elrond...) He got so excited throughout the whole thing. :)

One of the worst things that happened to me was when I saw FOTR, these two guys sitting in front of me were LAUGHING during BOROMIR'S DEATH SCENE!!!! I could have choked them..... verymad

well, one funny comment came from the film itself, namely legolas. when aragorn reveals his plan to draw the forces of mordor to the black gate to keep the eye away from frodo, he says with a smile: "a diversion!" as if he finally got it, too, the blonde!

lol lol lol YEs, that part always makes me laugh...How come Legolas never gets the good lines?

yes...bc it was supposed to be NO LIVING MAN AM I!!! :flamer:

heheh...sorry...hopefully one day I'll get over this! lol

PJ completely ruined that scene! I agree! She was SUPPOSED to say:

Begone Foul dwimmelaik, lord of carrion! Leave the dead in peace!

No man am I! Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin! Begone, if you be not deathless, for I will smite you if you touch him!

I completely agree. That scene was such a disappointment. What made PJ think he could do a better job than Tolkien?!!! verymad

After a while, Return of the King only came out in this one theatre in the city. There were a whole bunch of homeless people who came to see ROTK simply because it was the longest movie showing, which made it a good place to sleep. This one guy kept on snoring and snoring and snoring, until some guy kicked his chair. lol
We kept seeing ROTK at that same theatre. This one homeless guy always was there, in the front row. He seemed unusually tall, and his face was distorted. (We saw later it was badly burnt) Then, one day as he was sitting in the front row, on our tenth time seeing it, these guy came from his seat next to ours, and sat by the guy. He obviously said something, because the next thing we knew, the guy was up and banging on the wall, and yelling really loud, "Do you want to fight me? Don't mess with me!!! I got a gun..." At those words, we were out of there, just as they were fist-fighting in the aisle, right next to where we were sitting, so it was hard getting out. It was pretty scary. (To add to the height of the fear at the moment, Frodo was hanging in Shelob's web at the time he got up and started yelling). I was pretty disappointed, since I missed some of my favorite parts. :(
Yeah, not exactly funny, but it happened. lol. (Turned out the guy didn't have a gun, but we didn't know that...)

my funniest memory was when during rotk, just a shelob reappears on the screen, silently creeping up behind frodo, a youngish guy (about 20) sitting just in front of me gave the highest-pitched squeal of fright that i have ever heard from a grown man, in my whole life! not only that, but he jumped about a foot in the air and everyone around the cinema burst into fits of giggles. hahaha that memory will stay with me forever!

One viewing of RotK I was in, a lady down at the end of of the row of seats kept jumping, or making small squeals of fright. Until when Frodo first holds up the phial, and then looks behind him and sees Shelob. Then this lady screamed and jumped right out of her seat, and that rocked our whole row. She kept screaming through the whole Shelob scene. But after that she calmed down. I kinda felt sorry for her!

And there was one time I wanted to show a friend of mine (her name is Carmela) FotR. Another friend of mine (her name is Myrtle) was a long for the viewing too (she'd already seen it a couple of times). Anyways, I started playing the movie, but the sound wasn't working, so I narrated. Carmela was fascinated about how I remembered everything, and Myrtle gave sound effects. Anyways, the part came where the Hobbits are trying to get to the Brandywine Ferry. So Carmela is all tense, then the Ringwraith bursts out and she screams at the top of her voice! And there isn't any sound!!! Well Myrtle started screaming Ringwraith screams, and I was yelling the lines, and Carmela was screaming...I wonder what the neighbors thought. :p Ah well, it was fun and we all had a good laugh after that!
