Personally, my favorite scene is the opening battle sequence of elves and men fighting against Sauron and his orcs.:battle:

My second and third favorite scenes would have to be the journey through the Mines of Moria and the Balrog sequence.:flamer:

Yes the battle was good but I would have been glad if I saw Gil-Galad fighting with Sauron.

I dont think I have to say some of my favorite scenes for you to know what they are.... I think I'll save the embarrasing comments for another time. But i think I'll say one which is everything that happens in Rivendell. The Council of Elrond, the talk with Bilbo... and when he freaks out and stuff... Good times... good times...

my favourite scene, is one particular shot during the fantabulous Mines of Moria sequence, the entire Fellowship is climbing down those everlasting steps, racing towards the Bridge, and you see Legolas leaping smoothly off a whole flight of stairs. Its a loving detail, that pays attention to his elf qualities, which is graceful and lightfooted-ness. Similarly, in the Caradhas sequence, everyone's mired waist deep in snow, but Legolas is walking lightly......

Oooh, have loads more, please don't start me....am at work, so i can't get too excited :)

Wow...you really have an eye for detail.

I'm often quite an individual in saying this... but the scene at Weathertop was my fav bit. The way we are able to see how the ring-bearer passes into the shadow world and we can see the Nazgul properly...class!

I noticed how, when the nazgul first arrive, once sam is knocked out of the way, Merry and Pippin move closer together so that they can protect Frodo more effectively...how cute! :elf:

I also liked all of the scenes at rivendell...it houses some beautiful things (:naughty: )...and the shards of narsil have a mystical feel about them...:)

I have lots of favorite scenes, but one of my more favorite ones is at the very beginning of the movie when Gandalf tells Frodo about the ring. Then Sam was caught eaves dropping. haha i just love how Sam just pops up everywhere Frodo is.

I think mine has to be Boromir' s death and when him and Aragorn have there chat in Lorien. Most touching scenes I think. A bit of humanity showing through. Some of the other such scenes are too fluffy for me. :-)

A! Elbereth
July 3rd,2002, 01:06 AM
Pil! I noticed that too!!!!! But you know how everyone is talking about how helpless Frodo is, that he needs 3 hobbits to protect him.... I LOVE that! hehehehe! uh oh now I'm all hyper.... I need to go look at some Frodo pictures!

But I think the part where sam shows up at the beginning is so funny! woohooo Then Frodo smiles ever so softly... OOOOOO!!!!! *drooling* Watch out Catz!

July 3rd,2002, 03:39 AM
ooh yeah....that scene in Moria on the stairs is such a lovely detail, isnt it Tinuviel?
one of my faves is the scene with Aragorn and Boromir at Rivendell, where Brormir is looking at the shards of Narsil....encapsulates their whole relationship in a few moments....wonderful
Another fave would have to be the two for one deal on Amon Hen, where the blond braided one shoots two Orcs with one arrow...woohooo:hooray:
:catz:

I have a great many "favorite scenes". Here's my top three:

1. Aragorn on Amon Hen ... how cool was that walk?
2. Legolas running up the cave troll's chain.
3. Gandalf with the "You cannot pass" speech.

A! Elbereth
July 3rd,2002, 10:00 PM
I love the the 3rd one you picked... but just to say, its "You shall not pass" ... not to be annoying ;) I think that when Gandalf stands up to the Balrog is a very powerful moment!

Pil
July 4th,2002, 12:47 PM
Well he's a pretty powerful guy. I was reading 'The Unauthorised Guide to Middle Earth' and they have a whole chapter on gandalf. I was like, wow...how cool! Its easy to loose sight of how powerful he really is if you think of the old man image... ;)

The opening Battle was by far my favorite. The thousands of warriors fighting against one another was outstanding. Though I do agree, Gil-Galad SHOULD have been seen fighting Sauron, I mean after all, who are the Elves of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men without the Great Gil-Galad? I think it would have impacted the movie more by showing both the deaths of Elendil and Gil-Galad, it would show that both men and elves suffered a loss of a hero through the flick.

My other scene which I liked would have to be that of the scene at Amon Hen where Strider fought the Urak-Hai and also how Legolas fought the Urak-Hai as well. I mean hell, did anyone else see when Legolas used just an arrow to stab and then use the same arrow to shoot an advanceing Urak-hai!? That blew me away.

Though I still frimly believe that one of the coolest scenes would be the one that was never done, the scene where the fellowship was surrounded by Wargs, creepy glowing eyes every few seconds and then a firestorm by Gandulf, any scene that showed more of Gandulf's power would have been good to show.

Although it's all wonderful, I guess I'd have to say that upon seeing it for the first time there were two that really stood out:

1) The Nazgul chasing Frodo to the Ferry. Although a diversion from the real story, it was very suspenseful, even if you know he's going to make it!

2) My first sight of Rivendell! From reading the books for so many years, you have pictures in your head. The most thrilling thing about the films is seeing those mental pictures come alive before your eyes! I thought the cast incredibly well chosen, and the first time I saw Rivendell, Imladris, The Last Homely House.....I felt like I was coming home.

If no one wants to continue the converstion in this thread, fine. I just really have to contribute my favorate scene, or moments, or part or whatever you want to call it. No one has mentioned it and I'd like to.

I love the scene between Boromir and Frodo on Amon Hen, the whole sequence is brilliant. For me it was a good break from all the battles and showy effects (not that I didn't like those). I think the acting from both Wood and Bean was brilliant, and the dialog is in my opinion very powerful...."you will beg for death before the end..." I mean call me a sadist but I'm very affected by that line.... how it kind of rings true later on....

Enough of me. ;)

Nah, unfortunately he didnt... I just notcied that there really arent that many 'funny' parts in the book, besides that bit where Frodo makes a complete *** of himself at Bree..... I absolutely LOVE that part :loveyou: I think I must have read taht part 34 times or summut....

There are parts that make you smile yes, but not that many that make you laugh. I'm glad Peter added some relief from all the stress in the movie. Although Frodo looks awfully interesting under stress :loveyou:

legolaslover, all those parts you mentioned are pretty great, but you could have put them all in one post by using the edit button. Just so you know. :)

I love that part in the book as well Elbereth and Hobbitfriend!

The movie Bree was a lot different than in the book, but I did love when Strider is first shown, you know, with the cloak hiding most of his face and the pipe trailing smoke, excellent part.

My favorite scenes would hav to be the opening scene where Frodo meets Gandalf, when Boromir dies and Merry and Pippin try to defend him, and the part where Sam is saved from drowning and he and Frodo hug. Call me a softie. Sometimes I make myself want to vomit!

i think i have found my favorite scene (though not sure cuz i can't really decide and keep changing my mind lol) but i think it's the Mines of Moria. (i wish i had surround sound... heard that part sound really great with it) anyway, i just love how Tolkien describes that part in the book with the drums beating "doom doom" it makes it seem like i'm actually there and can hear the drums. (oooo suspense!)
then in the movie "fool of Took" part where Pippin drops the skeleton in the well (which is a lil diff. from the book but still good) and then with the company jumping over the big.. um crack "Nobody tosses a dwarf!" then of coarse the Balrog :flamer:

On the extended DVD, Galadriel, there are more Lothlorien scenes including some shots of the treetop houses etc as well as Frodo and Sam watching some elves head off to the grey havens.

August 14th,2002, 09:46 PM
I have to agree with whoever has been saying that they have to many favourite scenes to pick just one! my list of fave scenes :
1:any scene with legolas in it(the one when they were on the mountain was cool cuz they showed how light he was while he was walking on top of the snow):archer:
2:also any scene with frodo or pippin in it! (the cutest hobbits i will ever see!):loveyou: ;)
3: any scene with aragorn in it!(he's so couragous and brave!lol):knight:
4: okay, so back to the faves...roflmao i really thought the scene where frodo tells the other hobbits to get off of the road when he knew sumthing was coming and when the ring was overtaking frodo's power and was making him put it on were really great scenes!!!

Daughter of Finarfin

It is really hard to pick just one... or even two or three. I really liked the little things they put in like the horses on the water when the fords are floooded and legolas walking on the snow (that's the first thing I looked for in that scene and sure enough Orlando was there walking on the snow...). Also, I liked that they showed Aragorn carrying Frodo and Sam, and Boromir carrying Merry and Pippin. The one thing they added to the movie that I really like is Boromir teaching Merry and Pippen to fight. It adds insight into why he tries to save them later.

Also like Aragorn going to meet the orcs in the last scene and when he fiights the ringwraiths on Weathertop. Aragorn saying let's go hunt some orcs and Gimli and Legolas' excited looks are great too, I really love all of the three hunters scenes. Galadriel going all creepy in the mirror scene was exactly the way I pictured it.

But nothing could beat Ian McKellen as Gandalf, saying "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!" It makes my heart go pitter-patter just to think of it.

This is a little off, but they are my favorite scenes, but in Moria, Frodo says, "I wish the ring...." and Gandalf answers,"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"

When Frodo remembers theis at Amon Hen, Gandalf says "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to YOU"

hehe... he says 'us' the first time, and 'you' the second... I've been dying to point that out soz

Oh and yes...the scene with boromir and frodo is a great scene. if you think about it, it was very pivotal. It REALLY convinced frodo to get out of there sharpish before the whole fellowship got possessed! :evilcool: Boromir did the world a favour by trying to take the ring. Would you destroy it?" an then it looks (to me) like aragorn wants to take it but then closes his hand and tells him "I would've gone wit you to theend..." (something like that) and then I kinda thought aragorn was going to attack Frodo cause of the ring but then tells him to go oh so very meaningful (when he closes his hand)

Oh definately. That moment is where he really proves himself to not have the same weakness of his for-fathers, as said in Rivendell

I love how we are tricked and teased! There is some class acting from these characters! Aragorn looks so very much like he is gonna take the ring...but the perfect one strikes true again....plus i like how he says 'mordor' when he says '...into the very fires of mordor'. :naughty:

Oh! And...*hug for akiba!* :)

I know he adds an L in there somewhere sounds weird but I like when he's pushing Frodo up the stairs in the Prancing Pony and he's like "Mr. Underhill"and then when he's like "indeed"

Why not post the whole script? I know it by heart already... I think I watch that movie too much.

My favorite scene... let's see, in Lothlorien between Aragorn and Boromir... in the Council of Elrond between Aragorn and Boromir... between Aragorn and Boromir over the shrads of Narsil. That scene... there's something more to it on the extended DVD, right? When Aragorn says, "I am friend to Gandalf the Grey"? I hope they put quite a bit more... I'm dying to see that.

Thank you... I love Boromir. I'm like the only person in the world who does, but I do... and that line is too great... ah.

mecry I know! I agree catz...boromir was a bit of a git in the book; but film boromir, i think, opened up some of the parts of his character i didn't really explore in the book. Go sean bean! :p

hmmm. me sees a little boromir club forming here ;)

I absolutely loved Sean Bean's Boromir... he depicted the nobility and heart rending fallability of Man very well. Something which I found more warming than novel!Boromir. I so love his interaction with the hobbits, particularly Merry and Pippin....

*I seem to have gushed about tis before* lol

Milady Catz, hiya.... am rendered immobile by my project now... tell you more via PM.

I liked onscreen Boromir too but that was also how I saw him in the book to be honest but yes, Sean Bean did play him exceptionally well

I seem to repeat Gandalf's and Frodo's lines the most ;) lol

Boromir has some very emotional scenes... mecry

I think i cried more when sam is going after frodo and he drowns...sort of...rather than when boromir dies. I mean, i DID cry when he died...but i found it much more emotional to see frodo clutching to the edge of the boat, tears in his eyes, screaming "Sam!" Sam struggling in the water...'i made a promise'....'oh sam'....their hug...oh it's so sad. Brilliantly done. The friendship, pure friendship, it's amazing. :cuddles:

Uh...okay...I didn't cry...but please don't kill me... lol
I think both Gandalf and Boromir scene are very touching, (oh, and don't forget Sam and Frodo! :p) but personally I prefer Gandalf scene's music. It's just soooo "lament", u understand what I mean, right?

exactly
Gandalf's scene was sad but to me not as sad as Boromir's maybe cause I don't care much for Gandalf but you're right his music much better. I know about the whole "so many arrows" thing especially since everything goes quiet and it's just like "boom" there it is Its .....I can't desribe it intense supenseful uugghh just so aaaaaaaaaahh:o

Quite! I love Boromir. I think he's so great. I seriously thought I was the only one lol !

And ot was better than Gandalf's... especially cux he comes back and Boromirs only a mortal man.

And the music! wow, wonderful: like, the boom thing is also in Helm's deep, did you notice? the exact same thing!

Ah... I love this movie.
