There's a recent poll going on about how PJ might continue the Lord of the Rings franchise via movie-wise, but there are other possibilites that aren't listed.

a) The Silmarillion.

b) The Unfinished Tales

c) Morgoth's Ring

d) LoTR cartoon series (bwah hah!)

e) LoTR TV series (braces self for headache inducing romance)

f) LoTR parody movie (this'll be sweet...)

g) An expansion to Legolas' history (Its always about Lothlorien or Rivendell. What about our resident archer's homeland? If not much is said in the books, PJ can take director's liberty on it...)

h) Aragorn's life in Rivendell. (With daddy Smi--I mean, Elrond...)

Eh, well, there's m two cents. Personally, I'd love to see the Silmarillion. Am I even spelling that right?

Something that I would like to be made into a movie would be Narn I Hin Hurin: The tale of the Children of Húrin. That story is sooo good!

There's just way too much in the Silm to do in a single movie, or even a trilogy! Though what would be cool is if they made something out of the more popular stories. *I* could certainly see an entire movie devoted to Beren and Luthien!

Lets not forget 'The Hobbit'.

Silmarillion, all the way! It would be amazing! The whole book is really good. Maybe some miniseries, with a DVD release later of course :) That would be soooooo cool it would make my head spin seven times. Seven times! It usually spins 5 or 6 (when i see new LotR movies stuff :p)

Well, let's be realistic - I honestly don't think the entire Silm will ever be done.... it's just much too massive a story to tell in any form other than biblical prose!

Besides, do you you guys realize that Tolkien's works are owned by two different people? Tolkien Enterprises bought the rights to LotR and The Hobbit after Tolkien's death, so they're the ones liscencing the movie. The Tolkien Estate, on the other hand, owns everything else Tolkien and his son published, and they are adament that none of it be changed from its original form. They refused to endorse the movie in any way for fear that it be seen as what Tolkien would have wanted done to the books. The only reasons the movies were made at all is because Tolkien Enterprises, and not the Estate, owns the rights to them. If Chris Tolkien still had them, we wouldn't even have Bakshi's animation to throw up on!

Nice to dream, though! (heck, I've done it myself... see my last post about Beren and Luthien.... ;))

The Hobbit seems pretty probable. If anyone can make money from it, it will become a movie!

i think that if they wanted to do the silmarillion they could do a series of short films for each story.....that would be cool.. i'd love to see the tale of tinuviel.

I'd posted my idea on the Valinor forums that they should do a biographical film on Sauron. Sauron, the early years.

Hehe, how about "Sauron : Life of a Dark Lord"?
But first there should be "Morgoth : The First Dark Lord"

I think it would be a great mistake to continue filming Tolkien's books. The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings are the only completed books. The other books are unfinished and unpolished pieces.

This is not to say the other works don't have their value - in particular, for Tolkien buffs. They offer us a look into Tolkien's mind as he created Middle Earth. The books are more of a chronology of events - historical bits and pieces - of Middle Earth.

As a filmed medium, a continuation wouldn't work. I just don't think it would find audiences like LOTR has done. Yes, it would probably have a strong base of hard core LOTR fans, but the costs of such filming wouldn't justify sustaining the desires of fans.

The only medium that would work is T.V. But production standards are much lower. The result would be a traversity.

Well, at least the Hobbit can work out all right as a movie.
