I need a beautiful phrase in Quenya, it has to have some deep meaning, and obviously it has to be about LotR. If someone can do that for me i will be very thankful

Hmm, doesn't look like ppl are going to reply on this one:rolleyes:
Maybe because it's hard to think of such a phrase...
I'd say you first think of a phrase about LotR, then have it translated to Quenya.
I can't think of any phrase at the moment... maybe I'll find something later. In order to find something, it might help that ppl post some idea's here, don't have to be full phrases, trying to get a whole phrase in Quenya in one time won't work just like that. Good luck.

Isiltári will be glad to help you, if she ever comes around. I don't know Quenya, other wise I would have helped you by now.

But Stone is right, if you give some ideas of what kind of phrase you want it would be a lot easier to help you.

Now I know...

"Strenght and Honor", I know it has pretty much nothing to do with LotR, but it a nice expression, if anyone has something besides that i would really apreciatte it. Thanks.

Hmm.......How about: "Strength and glory"
Tuo ar alcar (TOO-oh are AL-kar)

I don't know of a word in Quenya which implies forgiveness/grace/mercy, (or "ashes" as well) etc......but I'll keep trying to think of a synonym so that I can translate that last one for you. :)

You could try to find some quote somewhere... I can't really think of anything at the moment (again).

Heh, Stone Drake, do you like WoT? Awesome books.
As for a good phrase pertaining to LoTR, I'm not sure. Like Stone Drake said, it's easier if you give us a narrower topic. For a phrase off the top of my head, how about something like...

"All who are lost can be found"
Ilye man nar vanwar pole na hirna

Someone please correct me if I have made an error.

Stone Drake

Yepp, I like WoT :) Jordan's very good. I'm reading the 6th book now.
About that phrase... that was more than a month ago, actually.. don't know if she still needs it... but maybe you could try one of these:

The day spares none.
The moon is ever watching.
Beware the flaming wings.
Death is only the beginning.

Translated to Dhaeghazal Zal'Lôn:

Ar tôn ngulae di'thôl.
Ar haemôn ralihae tônhe.
Ral'qay ar saelôan funêlue.
Qeiz thyrae nôq ar aury.

Reminds me to put that in my sig ;)
I've got a Zal'Lôn font ready, btw :) It looks a bit like Tengwar cursive, actually :mmmm:

Well, I'll try my best! How about:

"The beauty of the Elves will not fade."
I vanessi Eldaro sintuva la. (put an accent over the a of 'la'. I don't know how to make it show up.)

Or perhaps "The strength of the Elves will not fade."
I tuor Eldaro sintuva la. (again, put the accent over 'la'.)

"Follow your God, and He will give you strength."
Hilya Erulya, ar antuvaryel tuo.

Again, feel free to correct my Quenya if I'm mistaken.

How about "A warrior's strength comes from within."
I tuo ohtaro tule ho mi. (And there's two dots over the e of 'tule'.)
Literally = The strength of a warrior comes from within.

And no, it's not bothersome! I love doing Quenya, and I happily participate. In fact, thanks for the chance to get me going on some phrases. ;)

Elenwë
May 5th,2003, 12:56 AM
that's absolutely great!!!! i think i found my phrase. Thanks. And i'll keep bothering you with some other things.

Great! I'm glad that your pleased. And by all means - bother away! But I'll just let you know beforehand that I'm only about halfway through my Quenya course, so although I'm pretty sure about my abilities, there's possibilities for some errors. But I shall do my best!

Yup, I agree Stone Drake. Robert Jordan definitely rocks. I rank him right up there with Tolkien, myself. Mat seems to hear this a lot:
Haryalye i valto i Morna Queno.
(Loose translation: "You have the luck of the Dark One.")
Yes sir, gotta love the good old Wheel of Time.

"The only true warrior finds his strengh in death, and fears neither the living or the dead if it comes to his survival. Thus the very thing he claims to fight for is the bane of his existence."

I don't speak Quenya.. maybe you should try to translate this one lol
Anyway.. it comes from Five Seals of the Eyes of Chaos.
This is the Dhaeghazal translation:

"Ar nôhith dhaurôl rhalue uiqhae ar nure-dhae mo qeiz, kai dhar zladhae dîn ar ghylôlan kai dîn ar qeizôlan fê lar tehae ar têlthyre-dhae. Agene ar war puehl, lei dhar zalneae ba dhaurae, thyrae ar qezêl tau ar thyre-dhae."

Ohtarien
May 5th,2003, 04:58 PM
Hmmm, interesting! I'll take a look at that phrase and see what I can come up with. :)

And please pardon my ignorance, but what language is Dhaeghazal? It sounds Dwarvish. (?) Looks neat though.

Stone Drake
May 7th,2003, 04:58 PM
Dhaeghazal is letterly "Language of the people of Dhaegh".
http://users.pandora.be/4/stone/index.html
(that site is far from finished but I'm working on it :) )
Actually Dhaeghazal is my little language that I have just started creating... actually there are too little words to say a random simple phrase.. but when I need words, I just create them lol that way I can translate almost everything and the language keeps growing. Only thing that's hard about it is a) remembering the words b) creating a strong link between varying words. This language will never be very complete, as it is rather a basic one, but I will use it as the base of other languages, so it has to be a strong one.

To quote some forgotten Greek: "I think, thus I am."
"Khar zegiae, agene khar thyrae."

Ohtarien
May 8th,2003, 01:04 AM
Aahhh.... I see! Wow, I think that's great! Best of luck to you! That's quite an endeavor to undertake - but I can definitely relate to your love of languages!

I haven't post for a while... but Stone DRake, i really liked your phrase, it reeeeeally good, do you mind if i make the Quenya translation for it?

Stone Drake
July 6th,2003, 11:10 AM
Not at all, Elenwë.. but ehm.. what phrase do you mean?

"The only true warrior finds his strengh in death, and fears neither the living or the dead if it comes to his survival. Thus the very thing he claims to fight for is the bane of his existence."
This one?

"I think, thus I am"
Or this one?

I only wrote that warrior one, the other one is, as I said, some quote of a forgotten Greek, long dead and gone :p

Elenwë
July 6th,2003, 04:21 PM
The warrior one, it's really cool, but since you came up with it, i don't know if i could use it as i want to

July 7th,2003, 12:06 PM
alcar means glory?

isn't that similar to the greek ('Alke') i think

Stone Drake
July 7th,2003, 08:16 PM
I've got no idea on how to translate that phrase :p all I know is that "warrior" is "hirauth". :) Anyway, what are you going to use this phrase for?

Elenwë
July 7th,2003, 11:28 PM
I'm designing a tatoo and i wanted a very meaningful phrase, yours is just perfect ... off course if you allowe me to use it

Stone Drake
July 9th,2003, 04:27 PM
Ahhh.. I see.. well, in that case, I don't mind :) As long as it's not used for public things.

Elenwë
July 9th,2003, 06:54 PM
Off course not, is only for me, i'm gonna try to apply tengwar to it, it's gonna be quite hard. :)... Thank you very much Stone Drake.
