Are there any Agatha Christie fans out there? If you like her why, and which is/are your favourite books? And which of her detectives is your favourite and why?
If you don't like her then tell us.
I have a couple favourites. I tend to go more for the Hercule Poirot books. His mysteries take him amongst the rich and glamourous and all over the world. Whereas I find Miss Marple a little annoying. It is a wonder anybody lives in St Mary Mead with the crime rate there!
My favourite books are "Murder on the Orient Express", "Evil under the Sun" and "Death on the Nile".
I think she had a very vivid imagination where crime was concerned, and I often wonder how she thought of the plots the way she did.

ooh lin, read read read!! they are wonderful. i thought, Rosolas, that 'Nemisis' was a wonderful book... adored it... plus that one where miss marple has dinner and guesses all the solutions to the crimes was great....
'Death on the Nile' was another great one... adored it.... 'and then there were nine' was the first really freaky book i'd ever read... i think i was six or seven.... heh that imporession has stayed with me all my life....

I loooooooove Agatha Christie! :loveyou: She is the greatest mystery writer that ever lived! I like her books much better than Sherlock Holmes. Hercule Poirot is simply adorable! Another one I like is Tommy and Tuppence. They're a nice pair.
I read The Mysterious Affair at Styles last year. I found it a bit too complicated for me. I heard that Agatha Christie wrote that one to challenge her sister. My favorites are: Death on the Nile, Why didn't they ask Evans?, The Hollow, Cat among the Pigeons, The Secret Adversary, etc. Sorry, I can't remember all those titles! :) I also like movies and tv-series of Poirot starring David Suchet. He is so perfect as Poirot!

I always liked Sherlock Holmes better (his snooty arrogance makes me laugh). Poirot is alright (I think I would have liked him better if my mom hadn't forced me to watch the movies when I was younger), but I think he is too calm and nice to the people he doesn't like. Miss Marple.... well, yeah, let's not even go there.
I remember watching Death on the Nile- it was so sad. I guess this could be considered my favorite. I felt so sorry for the couple who organized the murders, not only because of their love that never could be realized but also how they died at the end. aww.... they just wanted to love each other.... (am I even remembering the same book/movie? I'm not certain, but they were on a cruise in Egypt, so I'm just assuming it was Death on the Nile.)

I to am an Agatha Christie lover, I haven't read all her books by any means, but some of my favorites out of the ones I have read are Then There Were None (Ten Little Indians), The Murder of ROger Achroyd, and Murder on the Orient Express. You find out who it is in that one and you are not likely to forget anytime soon. Anyway I think that she and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were the best of their times.

Boy, this thread has been dead for nearly a year, but now I resurrect it!
I have recently read a book by Agatha Christie called "Crooked House". It's one of her personal favorites. It was SO good... the end was really shocking! So shocking I couldn't sleep last night! lol If you like Agatha Christie, you've got to read it!

I'm a huge Agatha fan!! I saw her play three blind mice on the West End about a decade or so ago and it was great! From then on I've read what I can find - but I find I can only read her every once in awhile, trying to read more than three or four back-to-back are too many! I like Murder on the Orient Express!
And speaking of movies, I really enjoy the Miss Marple ones, she's so funny! And she does these things that only a little old lady could get away with!

Agatha Christie is great. i own about 12 books by her.
When i was young my mother started reading her books to me, and then i became a fan.
My favorites are: Crooked house, Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile,.... (I can't remember the other titles, besides the titles here are translated). Looks like we all like Murder on the Orient Express. lol I love the way you don't know who it is until the end.

I couldn't agree with you more about Poirot! The casting was spot on! I loved the casting with Miss Marple though also - she was hilarious! I remember the one where she's on a ship and everyone in the ship has to move to the next person's room - and she packs all this stuff - oh, I can't remember the name! The one thing I don't like about the Agatha Christie novels is that some of the murders are topical - like there was one where the murder was centered around some infecting someone else with something that's long since been gone - how would I have known that!! It was some movie actress one - why can't I remember the names...I'm getting old - I turned 25 two months ago :(!
