Another day calendar poem! The picture is Bilbo in Rivendel when Frodo sees him for the first time. He is standing there with his arms open wide and a smile is on his face. A really nice picture actually. This poem is from Frodo's point of view.
"At Last, Bilbo"
I passed the test, now I'll have some rest,
For to Rivendel we've found our way.
The darkness was deep, but I woke from that sleep,
To a warm and sunlit day.
Now I walk in the light, everything is alright,
I'm here with my friends beside me.
Gandalf is here, and I feel love near;
At last I will finally be free.
Yet one thing remains, to ease a pain,
An empty hole in my heart.
He has been gone, on the road for so long,
It is years that we've been apart.
To see Bilbo again, before this life ends,
Would mean more than wealth or treasure.
He has been a good friend, and my heart it would rend,
To go on without him forever.
But the sight I now see, on the path before me,
Has dashed all my fears and my doubting;
Bilbo is there, in the fresh morning air,
On a bench with his books spread about him.
My joy and surprise, brought sudden tears to my eyes,
And I stood there in astonishment.
At last, Bilbo, it's you, it really is true;
This moment is heaven-sent.
With his arms open wide, and a tear in his eye,
He stood from the bench and walked towards me.
His hair was now white, and his body was slight,
He'd aged quite a bit I could see.
But his strength was not gone, his arms were still strong,
As he held me in a warm embrace.
I laughed as I cried, and looked in his eyes;
Love and joy shone forth from his face.
At last, Bilbo, I know, I can finally go home,
Knowing your safe and contented.
Though some pain lingers here, I no longer fear.
And some day this wound will be mended.
