When i read RoTK i always like when the Orcs use Grond to destroy the gates of Minas Tirith. It killed the gates with only 3 hits, so it must be HUGE! Or so i imagined it, 1000's of orcs pusing it. But on that pic of grond it looks so tiny :(
PJ has let me down! :(

Well judging by the blre screen behind it, it could be made to look massive on screen with hundreds of little orcs pushing it. Like another bigature.
That would be so cool

I'm guessing that's either a minature or bigature used. Probably a minature that will be combined with a CGI army of orcs and what not.

I'm sure Grond will be large and forboding in the film. I'll really get mad if PJ makes it so small! lol

It was mountain trolls which wielded Grond, not orcs: it was moved by "great beasts" (Mūmakil?) and orcs surrounded it as a guard. So if PJ stays true to the books here the imagry will even be more impressive: imagine several-many of those trolls - like the ones that opened the Black gate - on either side of a huge wolf-headed battering ram.

In the book, wasn't Grond's effect maximized by the Chief Nazgul being there? I always thought of the three strokes as sort of magical symbolism, with a door-breaking spell behind it. Since the Chief Nazgul was formerly known as the Witch-King of Angmar, he should have known a few gate-crashing incantations.

That's the way it reads to me too. Gandalf's presence did not suffice to counter the gate-crashing spell, which I always thought was interesting.

I was gonna say that when it was mentioned that a 1000 orcs bearing it.
Besides 1000 orcs trying to work together....they proberly would of ramed it into one of gate towers lol
