Day calendar poem! This one is a picture of Frodo laying in his bed in Rivendell (I'm sure you've seen this one).
"Fevered Sleep"
My dreams were like an endless black nightmare,
A river running through my head.
They sought to drown me, I was gasping for air;
Over my heart was a constant dread.
I was surounded by darkness as if it was matter,
A thing one could touch and feel.
It desired and sought me, my defenses to shatter,
My hope and my sanity to kill.
I reached out for life, but it was drifting away,
Like a ship on a stormy sea.
And the rain and the clouds hid the ship from my sight.
I knew death was now coming for me.
I longed for death now, as a way to escape
This unlife where I hardly exist;
To be free from the pain and this burden so great,
I longed for death's comfort and bliss.
Yet death did not come as soon as I'd hoped,
Life lingered a while by my side.
From out of the darkness a soft voice spoke;
Eternity's grip it defied.
Then there was nothing, no fear or pain,
No darkness eternally deep.
I felt life return when the voice caled my name,
And death turned to fevered sleep.
The voice had a power that chaced death away,
Light pierced my soul when it spoke.
The sun finally shone on a brandnew day,
And at last from despair I awoke.
