From Dark Horizons:

LOTR: The Return of the King: 'Starjay' has an update on the third film, its reshoots and some FX difficulties: "ROTK is suppose to run in the 3.5-4 hour range, P.J. can use as much time as he needs to finish the story. Most of the actors will be returning to New Zealand for reshoots before the ROTK release. There were two other film crews that were filming other than P.J. and Barry Osbourne/Fran Walsh and P.J. was allegedly very disappointed with the direction and the acting. All of these scenes will be reshot, and the director has a lot of work to do before the release. I was told that the battle scenes for ROTK would be much more difficult this time, as opposed to Helm's Deep. HD was easy due to the darkness and the rain, it hides a lot of sins. The Battle of Pelannor Fields and the stand at the Black Gate won't be in the dark although it's not completely daylight either".

This is great news hearing that ROTK will be long! ANyone know what HD would mean and anyone would know how there shooting ROTK? (HDTV, Film 35mm,etc.?)

4 hours makes me want to go and see it NOW!
WOW! 4:30 mins of Extended? Or will there be no extended?

I really doubt they'd show a film 4 hours long at the cinema. I think it will be between 3 and 3 and a half hours with an extended of 4 hours.

I agree with Bearer, 3 to 31/2 sounds closer to the truth about the length... Thou, you never know what people will sit throu when it comes to LotR....;)

They could dfo it like the next harry potter movie, cut it into 2 parts, though I heard a rumor of a 5 1/2 dvd

Well, HP is for children who cannot sit still for more than 2 hours, perhaps 2,5 hours.
(I don't really Like HP)

The second HP was better than the first one but yea, a 5 1/2 hour dvd for ROTK would be cool. I hope it's at least 3 1/2 hours. ;)

I'm curious does anyone have ideas what scenes the other two crews were doing specifically?

No idea, but i think its a good thing PJ wants to make sure everything is perfect. They have more free time to make this last film the best.

If it isn't perfect, then he will take the blame! ;)

I heard something worrying... ROTK is so sad it makes PJ himself cry! Ahhhhhh, what'll I be like then?!?
Feel free to call me a nOOb if this has been mentioned before!

Yeah it has but I don't think its worrying. It'll be the most emotional of the three. I dont think hes crying cause its bad lol ;)

I agree that it will be the most emotional of the movies.. it is the most emotional out of the books, so.. it makes sense.
I will definitely cry.. and if PJ himself cries, then that's a good sign. At least to me. :)

lol The third book is very emotional, I agree. Yea, PJ will take the blame if it's not perfect. He knows that. Hopefully, it'll be the closest to the books out of the three as well. Still can't wait! ;)

I heard it's supposed to be in the four hour range. I also have heard that they cut out an hour from TT, which will hopefully be in the DVD. It says in the soundtrack leaflet that Howard Shore wrote four hours of music for TT, but it was cut down to three.

I heard about that too. They are going to have to squeeze that extra hour in ROTK. Hey, I don't care if the film is 5 1/2 hours long! As long as they do it the right way on the lines of Tolkien's vision. ;)

I agree. :) I wouldn' t mind if it was 6 hours long.. actually, that'd be pretty nice. :)
But I don't think they can make the theatrical version too long, sadly.

Hopefully, the theatrical version will be about 3 1/2 - 4 hours long, like PJ has been saying. Maybe the extended will be 5 hours! (It probably won't, but it's still a nice thought) This is how I feel about it: the longer the better as long as it's close to the books.

That long huh? Goody that will be fun! I remembered when they screened titanic in my country, they had to give some break in the middle. And the Ten Commandments too. I love long movies. lol

Me too. I think longer movies have more depth, depending on the film. It would be nice if it was really long. It would have more "authenticity".

i too hope it is hella long, only thign if it is, they will have some retarded break halfway through. they did that with TTT the 2nd time i saw it, it sucked cuz it kinda intterupts the flow, plus people came in late from "break" and were all in my way. but yeah, id liek to see it 4 hours atleast, ya figure it has to be. the others were 3 hours as was with cutting **** out. ROTK would have to then be atleast 3 hours, plus more time for the whole end of TTT book that wasnt in TTT movie.

I agree. They have to make up so much. I think the main reason why people say that they liked FOTR better (besides all of the departures from the book) is because it had less interesting "stuff" in TTT. It was less interesting because they cut the end off. The end of TTT in the books was the really good part. I don't know why they just didn't make the film longer to fit it in. If they had spent less time on the things they added (like the warg battle, Aragorn falling off the cliff, the Arwen dream, & the Elves at Helm's Deep, to name a few), then they would have had time to do the ending of TTT. It also would have been a good cliffhanger, and they would have more space for ROTK (like for The Scouring of the Shire). Oh well. They can't redo TTT so hopefully ROTK will still be very good. :p
