Alatáriël Helyanwë

.... that's mine... mouthful for me. hmm....

if you go to barrow downs (http://www.barrowdowns.com) and click on all in one name generators you can find out your name in elvish, orc, dwarf, and hobbit. It's neat.

Although they be inaccurate, they're still fun to do.

I think the sites just randomly tell you what your name is. It does say that my name is Nienna Nolatari. I personally like to go on http://councilofelrond.com and then go to Languages and it teaches you to speak Sindarin and translates most word in Noldorin, Quenya, and Sindarin. Even tells you most names.

My Elvish name seems to be Ánië Alcarin. A great site, but I wonder if it's real, because what I typed in was a Japanese name. :)

If any of you want your names really translated—you know, for real? Then I would be happy to do so for you over at the Find out What Your Name is in Elvish (http://www.warofthering.net/forums/vbulletin225/upload/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1409) thread. It would be the real translation, not some random name generator thing.

Yea...name generators are fun, but most just give random names...Wil and Isíl does it by finding your names meaning and translating it to Sindarin or Quenya...or both...and then the elvish meaning is transformed into an elvish name. Very accurate and very individual! Highly recommended!

Finally a PERFECT name translator. This thing will look up your meaning, and give you the list of the names of the chosen language beforehand.

1. Choose a language, Sindarin or Quenya

2. Type your name in the search box

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page after the load cycle in order to see your name(s)

Here it is! (http://www.councilofelrond.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Semantics&file=index)

Very interesting. I tested it with some names I've translated. It's pretty close, though I don't agree with some of their translations, it seems as though they weren't trying to creat names that were the esiest to pronounce (but that might be just a matter of opinion). It is the most acurate Elvish name translator I've ever seen. Thanks for posting it Aglargelair.

Welcome to Warofthering, Lunazra! I hope you have a wonderful time here! ;)

Hmm, I don't know about any name generators in Black Speech. Maybe there is one out there somewhere, but I don't think Tolkien ever made the language complete enough to actually make names with it. But you're right, that would be pretty cool .

hi guys! I'm a newbie. I checked out the site and it's so fun!! My real name in Elvish is Linwe Leralonde...Can anyone translate it for me? I mean, what does it mean? I'm still learning Quenya.. THanks  :p

Mánalinya
October 28th,2004, 05:44 AM
Welcome to WotR, Quicksilver! Glad to have you with us, and it's nice to see you have an interest in learning Elvish ;). Feel free to check out the Quenya practice thread, if you want to...well...practice any Quenya :p.

Hmm...the only thing I can find for Linwe is the elements "lin" (meaning "a musical sound"), and -wë; a generally masculine suffix (actually, "lin-" is also a prefix meaning "many", but that doesn't make much sense).
Leralonde, however, could be "free haven", containing léra "free" (though it is typically more for describing a person, as opposed to "latina", or "larina"), and londë "land-locked haven".
