Another day calendar poem! This one is a picture of Pippin grabbing hold of the arrow that is sticking out of the skeleton on the well in Moria. We all know what happens after that! ;) (this one's kind of long)

"Pippin Was Curious"

Deep in the darkness of Moria were they,
The Fellowship tired and worn.
They stopped to rest in a chamber lit gray,
From a high window shone forth the morn.

A great battle had been fought there a long time ago,
Its evidence was clear to be seen;
A hundred old skeletons lay on the floor,
The air seemed to echo still with their screams.

Gandalf paused to read an old book,
A chronicle of those who lay dead.
Its pages were yellowed and battered it looked,
It told many tidings of dread.

The Hobbits were fightened as they heard of the fight
That happened there so long ago.
But Pippin was curious of a particular sight,
And was distracted from the reading of woe.

He saw an old well a short distance away,
On its rim an old skeleton leaned;
It was covered in dust and its bones were now gray,
Its armor no longer gleamed.

On its head was a helm, in its hand a chain,
An Orc arrow protruded from its ribs.
Pippin reached out, he just couldn't refrain,
He just had to give it a twist.

The head of the skeleton toppled and fell,
Its helm hit the stones with a clang.
Through darkness it sailed down the bottomless well,
The clamber through the caverns rang.

Gandalf stopped reading and looked up in surprise,
A disturbance like that wouldn't do.
They must remain silent and not compromise
Their secrecy and numbers so few.

But before he could speak it happened again,
This time much worse than before.
The skeleton fell, chasing after its head,
Through darkness forever it soared.

The chain slid on after, clattering over the rim,
Pulling a bucket of great weight behind.
It made quite a noise as it started to spin,
Bouncing off the well's stony sides.

A long time they clattered and a long time they fell,
Echoing through the cavernous halls,
Alerting the Orcs and the beasts who did dwell
Within Moria's enclosing black walls.

"You fool of a Took!" Gandalf slammed the book shut,
His eyes seemed to spark witha flame.
Pippin felt the rebuke like a punch in the gut,
And downcast his eyes in shame.

Their cover was gone and the Fellowship knew
The enemy was massing for attack.
They had no choice but to see it through,
And fight all the enemy back.

Yes, fantasitc Wil!!! I really love that one.
I like the way you build up to Pippin making the skeleton fall, and the description of it falling.

Thank you very much! It was the hardest one off all of them I think! I sure didn't indent for it to get 13 verses long! It is hard for me to write narative poems, so it was kind of a challenge.
