I love the Uruk-hai swords from the FotR movie. Very origional and useful. The ballance would definately be top heavy, but if ballanced right might be nice. Hmmmm might have to try to make one....

i like sting...cept the glowing affects- apparently they tried to make it look as not like a light sabre as they could...they obviously failed quite drastically....

Well...I would have to go with Narsil.....

It looks very close to being a Scottish Claymore....

Although it's probably a hand and a half sword, it's still what I would choose....

I really want a Claymore, and maybe, just maybe, someday....my wish will come true....:p

1. I like sabres, katanas, single edged swords
so...I hate to say it but I really like ... Arwen's...
on a side note: an attractive woman brandishing a sword makes me ...err, well... oddly aroused
PS. is it my imagination or do some of the elven swords resemble chinese sabres

Dear Lord :o :o....just dont go there:nono: ......i could end up drowning in rampant testosterone, knowing this lot.... lol
Have to admit, much tho i dislike the pneumatically lipped one. i loved that sword too.....wonder who she knicked it off???;) ...its a very graceful blade...and yeah, i believe that asian weapons were used as source material for the design of the Elven blades

My fav is Narsil also...there is so much history behind it and we are always reminded of how much strengh it gives to Aragorn and any army that it is leading. GO NARSIL!!!! :hooray: roflmao

What do you mean we still haven't seen it?

Catz
July 7th,2002, 04:07 PM
well....Anduril is not Narsil...and from what ive seen, Aragorn definitely carries a different blade later in the movies....but tis not the same as Narsil, the hilt and the quillions are different...

why????

Orc

The sword we see Aragorn wielding in the movie will also be produced by United Cutlery and called the "Ranger Sword". It is neither Narsil nor Anduril.

This is a rather large deviation from the books. Aragorn carries Narsil with him and even shows it to the hobbits in Bree. He fights off the Nazgul at Weathertop with a torch rather than a sword. Narsil is reforged into Anduril at Rivendel just after the counsel, but before the fellowship departs on it's quest.

For more info on Narsil see:Narsil (http://www.warofthering.net/armoury/forcesofgood/narsil.shtml)

There is no concrete word on when Anduril will come into play in the movies. My theory is that Arwen and a bunch of elves will bring it to him at Helm's Deep. There are spoilers out there claiming that there will be elves at that battle, so it makes a bit of sence. Also, since PJ has developed Arwen into a bigger role, and has played up the romance between her and Aragorn, Arwen has to make an appearance in TTT, unlike the books, to maintain continuity. Otherwise, those who haven't read the books will wonder what happened to her.

I think Anduril is being held 'close to the chest'. My guess is that we won't see it until the movie. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a glimpse of it in some of the trailers

I'll have to watch again to see if i can spot it! Let me know if anyone does! :p

Sting, Frodo, Bilbo and Sam's sword. It has great properties and is always useful!

I really like the knives that Legolas carries. They are the coolest! aspecially how he uses them!

Wilwarin
August 8th,2002, 10:37 PM
I tried translating the Elvish that is written on the knives that Legolas uses, but most of it doesn't really say anything. The only true Elvish word on it that I could make out is Dagnir, which is battle.

I also translated the Elvish on Sting. I could get a little more off of that one. Part of it says Urnin Dagnir, which can be literaly translated "Hot battle for me"!

The rest is too hard to make out. I still haven't found a perfect picture of these blades to see every letter on them clearly.

OK folks, enough with the smilies. Lets wander back on target here. The content of this thread deals exclusively with you favorite sword from the Lord of the Rings.

Thank you for your continued support.

Agreed. Don't abuse the smileys, kiddies.

Favourite sword? Well, Glamdring was in the books, but I REALLY don't like what they've done with the whole Leaf Blade thing. Narsil is cool, although there's just something wrong with the hilt, I think it's just too skinny. Needs to be beefed up, I think. Aragorn's Ranger Sword is brillo, but the sword that really does it for me is Boromir's Broadsword. Especially at Amon Hen. Wonderful stuff.

The sword that I really like is Sting. I like it becasue it glows when orcs are near. But I also like the swords the elves and Legolas carry.

Bonos-Girl
August 27th,2002, 10:59 AM
i think i may have said this earlier but i think that the glowing-ness of sting was too light-sabre-ish

Orc
August 27th,2002, 04:11 PM
I agree. I always got the impression from the books, that the glowing came from within the sword rather than a halo arround it.

Menemir
August 28th,2002, 08:16 AM
A soft blue glow would've been more appropriate, but hey, hindsight's 20-20.

My favorite sword was the sword that gil-galad wielded for the few seconds he was featured. But I do have to agree with longshot and gil-galad, Arwens sword was awsome.

Menemir

Gil-Galad's spear, Aeglos, is the "sword" you're talking about. The name means "Snow Thorn". It's awesome.

I love the Nazgul's swords. They just look so cool. But i'll have to wait until the next two films to see if there is anything better.

Catz
August 30th,2002, 01:47 PM
yeah its such a pity...there was heaps of work done on Aeglos....and you barely see it.....damn!!!!lol lol
I like Boromirs sword too.......its a nice balanced looking design...that hefty pommel really does the trick of balancing the size of the blade, but it doesnt look clumsy at all.....

Maybe we'll get to see more of it, though I can't think of why.
In the short time that I saw it, it looks like a glaive, how close am I?

All the Elvish swords are great. Graceful, intricate, supple and highly lethal, like their owners. The Swords of the all various races are representative. The attention to details like that lets me forgive PJ and crew for any meddling with the story.

I think there's more of Gil-Galad and Aeglos in the extended DVD. Aeglos appears to be some sort of halberd, but I can't say for sure.

My favorite sword is Sting.

However, my favorite weapon would have to be Legolas' bow. It just looks plain AWESOME!

Halberd? I'll have to watch it again...

Looked more like a blade than an axe
Be cool if there was a site with stills of the weopons, hmm...

Menemir

Not a Halberd, I watched it again. Just a very long bladed spear. Image: http://www.quintessentialwebsites.com/lordoftherings/movieshots/lastalliance_gilgalad.jpg Took some digging, but I found it.

Catz
September 13th,2002, 08:09 AM
Mmmmm i like it too......its so well balanced visually that you dont realise just how big it is until you get that close up of the pommel during Boromirs death speech....and its a lovely design...clean and spare......not extraneously detailed....a very "mannish" weapon.....as Longshot has already said. its wonderful the way the weapons "suit" the races that created and use them...
as to how well it would be balanced in use....it depends on the weight of that hilt....it looks massive enough to give control....be hefty tho.....

well I must admit I'm not a sword fancier. I simply like Boromir best so I like his sword. Natural progression of things and all. :)

My favourite sword in LotR is Anduril. It looks very impressive and intimidating, and Aragorn does look like a regal warrior when he brandishes it.

But I'd prefer to own the Shards of Narsil instead.
