View Full Version : Theoden's death ... ?

I read the part in ROTK today (again) where Theoden dies. And I thought (again) that being squeezed to death by your own horse isn't exactly the death a king should expect on the battlefield. I hope PJ will fell free to change the story here and give Theoden a really honorable (bloody) death. Does anyone agree with we?

Another thing I wondered about: Aragorn arrives at Minas Tirith with many, many ships, what I find rather distracting (so many ways, so many lands, so many foes). So do you think they will have ships in the movie or leave them out to kind of focussing the story to the main battlefield (Pelennor)...

do you have ideas about that? and maybe other scenes you would like to see changed? (Please don't read me wrong, I absolutely love every word of the books).

My guess would be they have him killed by the witch king so Eowyn can have vengence for her dead father

Ummm...Theoden is Eowyn's uncle, not her father. Her father was Eomund. But having Theoden killed by the Witchking wouldn't be a bad change. More unity of action and a logical choice.

Well say Witch King attacks Theoden mortally wounds him and horse which falls on him.

Then before the Witch King can finish Theoden off - Eowyn 'reveals herself'.

We have the Eowyn and Merry vs. Witchking battle. Witchking dies horribly.

Then Eomer rides up - sees Theoden and has a chance to say goobye before he dies. Then a voice calls his name and he turns around shocked to find Eowyn badly wounded, near death.

ya that sounds like something that he would do in the movie

Well lets hope it is along those lines

Although theoden is eowyn's uncle their relationship is like father and daughter same with eomer, so ringbearer is not wrong at all.
Each time i read the books it makes me so sad that Theoden dies without knowing Eowyn kills the witchking with merry's help and doesn´t know she lies near him almost dead.It would be nice to watch it that way!!!and it would be so cool to see Theoden saying to Eowyn that shes is loved as a daughter instead theoden saying it to eomer and this one giving the message of the dying king to Eowyn.
And I agree it would be better to watch theoden killed by the witchking than by his horse, it sounds quite weird in the books, because a great king of men like theoden deserves a more noble death, altough i worship each word that tolkien wrote.
I'm going to cry a lot!!!it's going to be so sad.....mecry

yupz, this is more logical, better than being squeezed to death by a horse??
