For all you people who wonder what happened to Legolas and Gimli, well... here is what I think. Gimli and Legolas set out for the Grey Havens...:

Chapter I

'Ahh, here we are Gimli... I wonder when our ship is going to get here?' said Legolas, who was always happy to be with his friend Gimli.
'I have no clue. Legolas... are you sure I can go over the sea with you? I mean I never thought that Dwarves could go.' replied Gimli, sounding a little worried.
'Yes, I am sure you can go! They had no problem when Frodo or Bilbo went, now did they?' After Legolas said that he sat in thought a while, and then decided to try and make him feel a little better about it.
'They didn't care when Beren, along with Luthien, went now did they? If I were you I wouldn't worry, and if the Valar do care then they will say something. I really doubt that they would make you leave though, and if they did I would go with you. So don't worry any longer, OK?' It always seemed that Legolas had an answer to all of Gimli's questions.
'Thanks Legolas, you always know how to reply to my ponderings. It is hard to believe that we have been friends for such a short time and done so much stuff together.'
'Yeah, I know what you mean.'
Legolas and Gimli sat talking a while about the adventures they had together after the end of Sauron and the beginning of the 4th Age. They traveled around to see caves and forests and each other’s domains just like they said they would. Now they were ready to go over the sea and live forever in peace and harmony.
'Look!' shouted Gimli. 'It's our ship!'
'Yes, it appears that it has FINALLY arrived.'
At that moment a great white ship with wings and a great mast pulled in.
'Sorry about the delay' said a very weary looking captain. 'There was a storm out in the middle of the sea and it was almost impossible for me to keep the ship going in the right direction, but the Velar said "You must get the 'Mina Tad' here as soon as possible." So I tried my best and I am here. Are you ready to go?'
'Yes we are ready, but wouldn't you like to rest a while?' said Legolas, worried more about the condition of the captain than going over the sea (at the moment).
'Actually, yes I would like to rest a while thank you. Oh I almost forgot to introduce myself. I am Cirdan, Lord of the Havens, first bearer of the Red Ring of Fire.'
'Yeah, yeah. Nice to meet you! I'm Gimli and this is Legolas. Now what's this about us being the "Unique Two"?'
'Well see this, Lord Gimli. I am sure the Valar didn't mean any harm to you, or your friend Legolas here. But it is a FACT that far a long time, more than years countable, that Elves and Dwarves have been enemies. Now here is where you get your name. It is UNIQUE because you two are the first friendship between Elves and Dwarves for many years uncountable. So the Valar gave you the name Minai Tâd.'
'We see now. Thank you for explaining it to us. Now how about we take you to that shack over there and you can get some rest.' said Legolas hoping that Gimli didn't offend Cirdan.
The next morning Cirdan had overcome his weariness and they set sail for Valinor...

Chapter II

'Ack! Can't you make this thing go any slower?!' exclaimed a very seasick Gimli.
'I'm sorry, Master Gimli, but I can't make it go any slower. The waves are way too rough.' said Cirdan, in a comforting voice.
'Gimli, why don't you go take a rest in the cabin? I'll stay out here with Cirdan and we'll have a chat.'
'Thanks Legolas! I think I will, if you don't mind Captain?' said Gimli. He was thankful that Legolas always talked him into things.
'No, I don't mind at all, Master Gimli! Be my guest!'
So after Gimli went to lie down in the small Cabin on the bottom deck of the boat, Cirdan and Legolas started talking.
'Sorry if this seems rude, Master Legolas... I was wondering... how exactly did Gimli and yourself become such good friends? I mean, no one has EVER heard of Elves and Dwarves being friends since the little incident thousands of years ago.'
'Ahh, no Cirdan, you are not being rude. Curiosity in my mind is a good thing! Plus, that is a very good question. Well, you see, it was the fellowship that brought us together. He offered his ax, and I offered my bow. He didn't have a good opinion about me then, but he changed his mind after he got to know me. Then we started doing things like comparing our Orc kills. Mind you, he is very good with his ax. When we were at the caves of Helm’s Deep we promised that when this whole mess was over we would travel to the forests and caves together. Believe me, those caves were beautiful! I always thought that caves were dark and dreary, but hark! These were nothing of the sort! I do say! He was as impressed of the forests and trees as I was of the caves! Really, that's pretty much the whole story. It was fate that brought us together, and I have a feeling it shall be fate that will bring us apart.' finished Legolas with a sigh.
'Wow. A very interesting story you have there, Master Legolas! I wish I could have such an interesting tale, but now all I am would be the captain of a boat.' said Cirdan with a long sigh of admiration.
'Yes, I have lead an interesting life. I am sure your life has had it's ups and downs just like mine.'
'I am afraid it has had more downs than ups my young elf.' after that comment there was a long silence. Then something hit Legolas like an arrow.
'Oh! I almost forgot!' Cirdan was starting to get worried because Legolas turned sort of pale and looked very anxious.
'Excuse me?'
'H-have you heard a-anything about Frodo?!' exclaimed Legolas; a little shocked from his anxiousness.
'Sorry Master Legolas, of that I have not heard.'
'Oh...' said Legolas a little put out. Then he thought 'I hope he's OK. Oh, I am sure he is. It has only been a few years since he left.'
'I am sure he is ok my lad. Nothing' bad has been going on. Pah! Nothing bad EVER goes on over in Valinor.' said Cirdan, with a lot of emphasis in his voice.
'Yes. I am sure you are right. Hmm... it appears time has slipped away.' it was past dusk and turning dark quickly.
'Ahh, looks like you are right my young elf! Shall I throw down the anchor for the night?'
'Yes, you shall. I shall go check on Gimli. Then I will be off to bed'
'Goodnight, Master Legolas.'
'Goodnight, and just call me Legolas.'

Chapter III

It is early in the morning, still dark outside. Legolas is dreaming.
'Legolas quick! Get to Frodo before Sauron can reach him!!' said a very strange and taunting voice...
'I am trying to! Frodo hold on!!!'
Frodo slips away into darkness as Orcs surround Legolas. He hears the strange voice again...
'Legolas, you have failed your duties. You were to protect Frodo and you failed. I thought you cared for and loved him. I thought would risk your life for him. You are pathetic. A disgusting waste of a perfectly good body.'
'I'm sorry I-' Legolas was cut short by the voice.
'I shall here your excuses not!' shouted the voice. Legolas shrunk back in fear.
'Give me your bow and arrows... all of them. Your sword, too.' Legolas looks at his bow and arrows. He just got a new quiver full of them. Then he looks at his sword. He had that sword as a gift from the dwarves... he did not want to part with his stuff.
'Please, let me ex-'
'SILENCE! For your disrespect to your master... I shall take your clothes, too.' The voice was now full of menace. Legolas took off all of his clothes and handed over his quiver and bow. Then the voice said 'Legolas you are a coward! You are nothing! If your father only knew... If your father only knew... Ha! Thranduil V would disown you! You worthless… kill him!' The voice then laughed a loud and evil laugh, so evil that it sent chills up and down Legolas’ body ‘Wha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!’ Legolas sat for a few moments thinking ‘He is right, I am nothing… I failed. I was not there when Frodo needed me. I am worthless… Legolas then tried to fight back for he was being shaken violently. The Orcs were shaking him and trying to kill him... the voice was repeating his name... 'Legolas... Legolas....'
'LEGOLAS!!!!!!!'
'NO! STOP! LEAVE ME ALONE! I’LL HAVE YOU' shouted Legolas. Then with a jolt he sprung up and knocked the ‘Orcs’ to the ground.’
'Jeez. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!' It was only Gimli.
'Gimli? What are you doing here?'
'What do you mean,’ he stopped for when he looked at Legolas he saw fear in his eyes. ‘Are you ok Legolas? I think you need a breath of fresh air.' There was a pause.
'Look at you! You're all sweaty, and you look like you went to Hell and back.'
'Gimli... I think I did.'
'What?'
Legolas tells Gimli about his dream.
'Legolas! You are too worth something! I don't see how you could think that!'
'It wasn't me Gimli. Someone was inside of my head. Someone was getting to me... reminding me of the time I failed to save Frodo... I think that person was Sauron.'
'Legolas! Sauron is long gone! He has been for quite some while now! Besides, we all failed to save Frodo. The Fellowship failed, not one alone.'
'No Gimli, you are wrong,’ said Legolas ignoring Gimli’s statement about the Fellowship. ‘Sauron’s spirit still lives, along with Melkor's spirit.'
'Melkor?'
'Morgoth.'
'Morgoth? Melkor? Who are these people?'
'He is just not any person, Gimli. He was a great and powerful Ainor. He turned to evil though. He wanted it all his way. He craved power, and he wanted to rule Middle-Earth. Most of the evils we have today and have had in the past are because of him. Melkor is his real name. Feanor named him Morgoth.'
'Well, I don't even know who Feanor is. So, it's no use. If you think Melgoth, or Morkel, or whoever is getting to you... Well, just relax until we get to Valinor, OK?'
'Ok Gimli. Thank you.'
'Anytime Legolas, anytime.'

Whew! That took forever! I hope you enjoy it!

Very imaginative. I love stories that explore the friendship of Legolas and Gimli. You may want to avoid modern expressions like "Jeez", which Tolkien didn't use. They pull the reader out of the story a little. But I did like the story and hope you continue soon.

I would give that 9/10. The way Legolas and Gimli help each other in times of hardship is illustrated well here. Keep it up!

Thank you! Yes, I know about the more 'human, and down to earth comments' I wrote this a while back, and I tried to fix it as much as possible. Thank you for reading it!
