We read this book in our schools book club last month (we're reading The Hobbit this month ...)
It was written by Alice Sebold, and by the end of the first chapter, you have a vivid description of the main character's rape and murder. The main character is a twelve year old girl named Susie Salmon.
From chapter 2 on, you follow Susie's life in heaven, and her family's life on earth.
I thought this book was amazing, despite the difficulty of reading the vivid descriptions.
I was just wondering if anyone else had read it and would like to discuss :).

I promise I'll discuss it with you as soon as I've read it. I got it for my irthday but I have exams in two weeks and have promised myself i will not start reading another book till the exams are over... otherwse I get distracted. I'm looking forward to reading it.
I also thought I would mention that on the empire magazine website they heard a rumour that Peter Jackson would like to make it into a film and direct lol just a bit of a change

ok apologies for the double post but no-one else has posted since my last post and I've finished the book now. I really enjoyed it. There were bits that made me cry but somehow by the end of it you're happy.
It was very well written and well worth reading, even if it has left me spooked and wondering who's watching me... I think I'd best behave ;)

It's very sad though. I can't imagine that happening to anyone I know. :(

Because there already was a thread on this subject, I've merged the new one with it.

I've read the book too and I loved it.
It's sad but the main theme is completely new and susie's sister is just great!
Hightly recommended!
