If old tom was in the movie, who would have been the best to play him?

Saruman

Perhaps Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid in 'Harry Potter')

No doubt about it.. NATHAN LANE!

I mean..he's charismatic, a bit strange, and since he's in musical theatre we KNOW he's used to singing and dancing and outrageous costumes.

I thought Tom Bombadil was somewhat of an older person.
I think John Rys Davies (fine character actor that he is) should have played Tom, in addition to Gimli and Treebeard. That would have been great fun. I almost wish they would film some little clip or short, of Tom Bombadil, to tack onto one of the DVDs as a featurette. (Played by JRD of course).
(Miranda and Cate could fight over the Goldberry part.)

Cate, definately Cate. But I have to say, if not JRD, Robin Williams, suitably made up. roflmao

Yeah, but Cate romatic over Robin Williams???? - I can't see it.
On the other hand, it would be such a funny twist to see JRD and Cate playing a couple mirroring the Gimli / Galadriel love myth. The more I think of it - gosh - the more I wish PJ would have thought of it.

Maybe PJ will see this (hint, hint!) and film it as a feature for the extended version of ROTK.

I'm new here. I brows a lot, but never decided to join till now. I love Tom Bombadil, and I joined just so I could suggest who I think should play him, since I've been trying to sell the idea to all my friends for weeks:

I think Peter Jackson himself should play the part!

That reminds me (welcome Eowynneth) I have a funny feeling I saw Peter Jacksons cameo in ROTK. maybe someone can confirm it for me? I think he was the captain on the main Corsair's ship (before Aragorn took them over.)
I saw his kids playing Gondorian children in several places.

I was gunna say Robin Williams and I thought I was being all smart by thinking of it but it turns out he's been mentioned for the role about 8 times lol But I'll just reiterate the fact that I think he would play a great Tom Bombadil. He could be jolly without appearing unecessarily comical or fruity, and at the same time appear powerful.

LuthienT
February 4th,2004, 02:33 AM
lol I agree! Either that or Anthony Hopkins. Ok take that back, Anthony, to me, will be always remembered as Hannibal Lector.*Shudders*

Lady Luthien
February 4th,2004, 03:09 AM
Hm, to me Anthony Hopkins is too sophisticated to play Bombadil, but then again he is an incredible actor...he may be able to pull it off ;)

LuthienT
February 4th,2004, 03:11 AM
Mabey, he is one of the best actors out there. (of the many!)
