Dawn Noelle
February 20th,2003, 03:40 AM
thanks
i'm glad you started this thread
i've been wondering where many people got their user names

Illuvatar
February 20th,2003, 04:12 AM
Ahhh....well...in the Sil it's actually Iluvatar with one L.

Hehe..so I guess I'm just the mis-spelt deity! lol

And Dawn...that is so kewl of your parents to name you that!

We named our daughter Lydia Noel! But I like your spelling of Noelle better.:p

Dawn Noelle
February 20th,2003, 04:16 AM
i hated my name growing up
but then i met a girl named merry christmas, and another girl named holly berry
and i was suddently grateful my mom didn't do that to me
(i was due on christmas but decided to be stubborn and come 4 days later)

lydia noel is a pretty name!

Tar-Ancalimë
February 20th,2003, 04:22 AM
i got mine from, um, well, appendix a is the first place i saw it. but then i read the mariner's wife in UT, and i decided that Ancalime is... well, to my mind, admirable. im very headstrong as well, and i have delusions of granduer

A! Elbereth
February 20th,2003, 04:52 AM
From LOTR, of course.... was always fascinated with the character Elbereth Gilthoniel. And I get to watch over Frodo. He even calls my name out a number of times! :loveyou: roflmao

But really, I was fascinated with it so yeah. It's from LOTR.

Sindarin
February 20th,2003, 05:42 AM
I chose my username from a dictionary based upon Tolkien's languages.

Translated from Quenya, it means "Gray Elven" :knight:

Lady Arien
February 20th,2003, 06:00 AM
Illu helped me find mine, in the Sil...after the acts of Melkor and Ungoliant brought the cloud of darkness into Arda, Arien was chosen by the Valar to guide the vessel of the Sun..."she was chosen because she had not feared the heats of Laurelin, and was unhurt by them, being from the beginning a spirit of fire, whom Melkor has not decieved nor drawn to his service. Too bright were the eyes of Arien for even the Eldar to look on, and leaving Valinor she forsook the form and raiment which like the Valar she had worn there, and she was as a naked flame, terrible in the fullness of her splendor."

I added the "Lady" as it is considered, in certain circles, a title of respect...those who know me here know the eyes of Lady Arien are ever watchful!! (LOL)

Cuiel Rilwen
February 20th,2003, 08:42 AM
Mine's my own in Sindarin...and Wil did it! Had a number of options in both Sindarin and Quenya, and this had the best sound to it. I like it very much!:)

Gwaihir
February 20th,2003, 12:40 PM
I took mine from LotR. Gwaihir the Windlord is very important, though he is not too famous. Without him, LotR wouldn't have turned out right. He saved Gandalf a few times and also others. I admire him very much! :) His was the first name that came up to my mind when I was registering here.

Cuthalion
February 20th,2003, 03:14 PM
Mine, of course, is from the Sil' . I always loved Beleg Cuthalion, that character kick some serious arses. He's so cool.
Btw, can I be called Happy? and my middle name would be Valentine (girls would love me! ):naughty:

Bonos-Girl
February 20th,2003, 03:15 PM
i'm one of the few that doesn't seem to have an lotr related (or jut lotr-sound alike hehe) name.....but i don't mind..i like my name!

if you see anyne on another random forum called bonos-girl its most likely me! lol

Galadriel
February 20th,2003, 05:27 PM
when i fist started reading the LOTR i was fascinated with the elves. So when i registered I thought what better name than Galadriel Queen of the elves. So thats how I got my name hehe.

Bawax
February 20th,2003, 08:47 PM
my name came out of no where, i've used bawax fora few years now, i can't recall exactly where it came from and before anyone says it no i don't wax sheep for a living.

i was going to go for my surname but i'd sound like an idiot i think. :)

Brego
February 20th,2003, 09:33 PM
I chose mine becos i love horses, simple but true

Nessa the Dancer
February 20th,2003, 10:30 PM
I got mine from the Sil

Nessa (called the Dancer) is one of the Vala, spirit and protector of the woodlands. Since I really do live in a Forest and love it so much, I thought that Nessa was the perfect name for me.

Galadhrim
February 20th,2003, 10:47 PM
I got mine from a list of suggestions Catz sent to me. I just liked the sound of it.

TheRingBearer
February 20th,2003, 11:45 PM
O.k here's the story about mine:

I have the ring... therefore i am a bearer...therefore = TheRingBearer

It had a good ring to it (pun not intended lol )

Little Devil
February 21st,2003, 01:04 AM
Mine as my friends always say I'm evil so with a d on the front Devil, then I just added Little, I've been using Little Devil for almost everything I'm doing. ;)

Rumil
February 21st,2003, 01:05 AM
In The Sil Rumil is the Noldorin elf who first invents writing (that copy cat Feanor later came up with letters of his own) - kinda literary - it is also Haldir's brother's name from LOTR. I liked the idea of the guy who invented reading and writing (both things i love) and thus picked the name.

Ithielnor
February 21st,2003, 05:10 AM
Ok, suprise suprise! (not) mine is not lotr related though I would call it lotr inspired.

It actually comes frome Proverbs 30:2 were the name is Ithiel (yes, it is a man). But since 'iel' is a feminine ending in elvish I added 'nor' because I liked the sound of that.

If you come across an Ithielnor on another forum it is probably me.

Moraneah
February 21st,2003, 05:16 AM
I use my middle name here (in this realm) my full name is actually Filiandriel Moraneah Reyna....not in real life that is.

Lady Melody
February 21st,2003, 12:07 PM
Well... I actually started out as ChibiMelody, then the mod spaced it to Chibi Melody. It looked pretty weird, and someone mentioned that they have certain misgivings about it, and so it is Lady Melody....

I've always facied the name Melody, never mind my name is in truth Arabic and would never come close to it. I love music, mad about classical music specifically, and I play the flute and piccolo in my school ochestra.

It's in my nature, I guess.

Lintefaniel
February 21st,2003, 01:30 PM
OK So actually I got mine from a name generator online also but I do use my name in elvish on other websites. Melimë Vanyanis means Beloved Beautiful Woman...translated directly from my name! ;) I felt special...weeenk weeenk ;)

HobbitFriend
February 21st,2003, 04:15 PM
Well it's pretty obvious that i like Hobbits - Hence the name "HobbitFriend". I knew i wanted something to do with Hobbits in it, but i'm so bad at thinking up names. I was actually surprised when i just happened to come up with "HobbitFriend"! I like my name though :) it's my kind o' name ;)

huh you know I never thought of that lol

well I got mine because I had done a lotr character test and it told me I was likr Eowyn.....at the time I hadn't read the books but people kept telling me it was a good thing. (I'm not evil - for a change :wicked: ) so I used the name. kinda obvious I guess. lol

Cool choice by your friend. Eowyn's great ;)

SindarinGirl
February 21st,2003, 10:23 PM
I read that the elves of Mirkwood were Sindarin, so I chose that. The "Girl" part you can probably guess, and if you can't I'm not explaining it! lol

Now that I've started reading the Silmarillion, though, I wonder if I should have picked "Nandorin Girl", as they're the elves who loved rivers and I'm really fascinated by moving water - streams, falls, rivers, etc. :p Oh well!

Illuvatar
February 22nd,2003, 12:20 AM
Hey folks,

Now we do not encourage changing them all the time, but if you've discovered like SindarinGirl that you might like to change your username, that can be arranged.

We usually restrict that to one name change per user, but if your interested, then please send a PM to either Catz or myself.

Lady Ashley
February 22nd,2003, 12:20 AM
I got mine from my one LOTR fic. My Amee character was, in several different versions of it, named "Thalionwen", "strong maiden" (or "steadfast maiden") by Legolas, for she was able to keep up with them on the hunt of the hobbits and learned how to be brave and strong during the journey, like I hope I could learn to be if I ever went to Middle-Earth. (However, I did not put that into the story...yet...heheh...just you wait till the very end next Christmas. Gee, that's a while..)

The Lady part is of course so many women in Middle-Earth held the title of "Lady". And Ashley is my name!

Adunauriel
February 22nd,2003, 03:36 AM
That's pretty cool Lady Ashley... Getting you elvish name from Legolas, I like that....

Awwww.....

I got mine from the Sil, I guess I saw some sort of appeal in being the least of the greatest.... I was rather enchanted with the Valar, though my heart truly lies with hobbits. ;) I've thought about changing it to sound more hobbity, but I'm attached to it now.

This is my third account on war of the ring, the other two just kind of died because I forgot my password, though I only posted twice. My first name was Istari, I think someone else might have that username now, i don't know. I chose an Arwen-ish name because every time I read that story in Appendix A it always makes me cry... the way Arwen just goes to Lorien and dies. The usernames Arwen, Arwen Evenstar and Undomiel were taken so I chose Evenstar.

Where is this name genorator?

Khamul
March 13th,2003, 01:34 AM
MIne is pretty obvious. Khamul, The Black Easterling, was the second highest 'ranking' Nazgul, behind the Witch King of Angmar. He lived in Dol Guldor with two others. I got that info while I was reading Unfinished Tales. I thought that there would already be a Witch King or two on here, so I decided to go for Khamul. I think the ringwraiths are great... :evilcool:
But I am neither evil, invisible, black or an 'easterling'. Which sort of spoils the illusion I guess. ;)
The one thing I do know is that it is far more interesting than the name 'Alex'. Hmmm. lol Maybe I should change my name officially by deed poll? lol

There are many quenya name generators around actually. Anyway, some are said to be unreliable because the methods they give to select your name are not always correct, but heck, who cares, as long as you like the name lol

Mirkgirl
March 13th,2003, 01:08 PM
....... and if you dont you can always try another generator ;)

As to my nick (probably said that before but who knows where)... I needed a nick for tolkien forum (far before this one tho) and I didnt want it to be a character, but still to sound Tolkien-ish... and Mirkgirl was the first thing that poped up in my mind...

And to all you newbies who read this... Mirk doesnt necessarily mean Mirkwood (tho there's nothing wrong with that) and definitely Mirkwood doesnt mean just elves... I despise the race of elves as a rule.

Evenstar
March 14th,2003, 02:28 PM
You despise elves? :elfeek: How can that be possible?

Mirkgirl
March 14th,2003, 03:02 PM
Why shouldn't it be possible? Just because someone is immortal, beautiful and wise (give a human 1000 or even 500 years and they'd become a lot wiser than any ancient elf tho) doesnt mean that everyone should like them. And close their eyes for their numerous negative characteristics?

I like men. I like every full-blooded imperfection in them.

I couldn't agree with you more, Mirky. Elves have grown arrogant in their immortality. Their ignorance towards other races disgust me. And look at what they have accomplished. Not much. There is no perfect race. If a race were perfect, it would be arrogant and care not for anyone.
If you look at reality (I know it's hard, just try) you can see what mortal humans have accomplished in a few thousand years, just by passing on knowledge. If we were immortal...

:shhh: my name... is actually a mistake...:p hehe... i spelled "Anduril" (Aragorn's sword) wrong...by mistake and spelled "Andruil" instead
but i don't think i'm gonna change it because i like the sound of my misspelled sword name ;)

maybe in due time, i'll make something Elvish too...
but we'll see... =)
