it's god-awful and ridiculously funny as a result. The songs are the best/worst thing about it though. either that, or Kasey Kasem as Meriadoc Brandybuck. the Mordor Orcs disco-dance marching song kicks @$$ though. "Where there's a whip! *whh-pshhh* There's a way! We don't wanna go to war today!"

I used to love it as a kid before I read the books. The cartoon was my first introduction to Tolkien. Totally loved the orc song and the one played at the Tower of the Teeth.

However, after watching PJ's movies and reading the book, I have to laugh at how ridiculous and short it was. The characters were drawn so wrong! Pippin with his skinny head and long neck. LOL!

The cartoons were also my first taste of Tolkien and I still really love anything animated--I like the Hobbit best of all the cartoons of the books though. After I saw the theater version of Fellowship of the Ring, I went out and bought all of the cartoons on VHS tape. Just recently I opened ROTK to watch it and I was sorely dissapointed to find out that due to some kind of flaw in the tape, that there is no audio whatsever in the movie. Talk about being miffed!

Too bad--I really like the music in those cartoons, actually.

the music is good on all of them......... that stinks that u didnt get to see it. RotK is a lot like the format (colouring, drawings, ect.) like the hobbit. it also has quite a lot of music

The songs are indeed catchy, they've stuck in the back of my mind for years. The actual movie was not at all what I had hoped it would be, Denethor was as one dimensional as they come and every one of my favorite scenes from the book was either non existant or just not right. It was ok though when I first saw it before I saw PJ's LOTR, now I just cannot help but laugh. Although I saw the Hobbit when I was a child and it was also my first taste of Tolkien's. I did like the Hobbit. Perhaps after I see PJ's ROTK I'll rewatch the animated one, it'll be interesting to see.

Of course I saw it, I'm OBSESSED! It's funny to see all three animated video because Hobbit is the same animator as ROTK. But LOTR, which is Fellowship and TT combined, les "cute" and has more scary creature images. SO when you get to ROTK, you're back to the familiar roly-poly characters.
The animated ROTK has been maligned for many a year. But it doas give an over view of the plot, so one lazy-butt who doesn't want to read the book, can preview the plot before Mr Jackson's version and have fun comparing. (We can also laugh at those posters on other threads who are crying because Hobbitsses died and Sam goes off with the elves) - I recommend NEVER reading the book or watching the movie before commenting on the plot. If you did, we'd lose all that entertainment! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Yes I saw them. The fellowship of the ring is really stupid but the other two aren't bad.

That movie was horrable, but not as bad as the Bakshi LotR. It made no sence and confused me terribly. It had way to much Sam trying to get into Cirith Ungol. The songs scared me the most though. So did Frodos bitten off finger. lol

I've only seen the animated "The Hobbit" and I thought it was ok, I liked the dwarves singing the son of what Bilbo Baggins hates while they were cleaning his dishes. Gollum was a bit freaky. I first saw some of this movie in th 6th grade while the older kids had an assembly.I then read the Hobbit for the first time in 7th grade. (When I was young my older sister started reading the illustrated Hobbit to me but we didn't get to far.) I didn't read the trilogy until FOTR came out on video and DVD when I saw it and it totally brought me into he world of Tolkein. :)

The bearer of the ring

All I need [sam's little song]

The orc's song

:) I would love to know all the words to them so I can sing them myself!

Its not bad, good to see some things sticking to the book that the film did not (witch king on horse at gates of minis tiirth, gollum falling in mount doom). But the characters are way off and its all a bit of nonsense really
:)

Big, fat NO. I had to mute the orc song. I really don't know how I got through it. (Though one thing is in its favor: I got through it all. I had to stop watching the animated The Hobbit before I died of embarassment and horror.) Gosh, those songs were so....dumb. Sorry. The whole thing really made me nausious.)

Nope, haven't seen it...but I did see the Bakshi version. Good gosh, what were they thinking when they made Aragorn and Boromir wear those miniskirts? And that helmet...man oh man. And that's only part of the problem I had with this movie.

Lady Ashley

I liked the helmet----mainly because that's what I saw Boromir wearing when I first read FOTR. I saw him big, deep-voiced and having a Viking helmet. However, he was NOT wearing a skirt. Nor was Aragorn.

I find the Hobbit cartoon's elves MUCH more repulsive, try a genetic compromise between a decrepic jolly green giant (yessir, loincloth and all) a grey underfed gremlin

I recall that Erenion used a picture of one such monstrosity as blackmail....kept me off BFRM for a whole three days!!!! :flamer:
