At the request of Frodo284, here is a thread to discuss the best opening that could start the best film ever ;)

C'mon. That's just where the movie TTT left off. It's only right because you want to hold off on the Shelob thing a little and Pippin and Gandalf heading for Minas Tirth would make no sense. Since Aragon and company were last seen on horses following Gandalf, preparing for war at Rohan would be redundant.

well then, why don't you tell us what the opening should be....
i think it's a good topic
i'm interested in reading everyone's opinions

def not option 1, as that skips the orthanc scene. out of those i say shelobs lair or the showdown at isengard. id rather have it start different from all those though

I voted for the gollum story, it could be showing his story then when the scene ends it shows him thinking while the hobbits rest and then he leads them on to the lair of shelob

This could just be unfounded gossip (the very best sort of course;)) but i thought that the opening scene was going to be Arwen/Anduril - am i imagining things?

Oh yeah, that's a strong possibility.

I chose the second option, because that was the closest to what i think the beginning should be. As for the actual opening... like they did with Moria in TTT, i don't know. But the other options don't quite "fit" in my mind. Option #1 would confuse people if it started there, because you would miss out on how Gandalf came upon Merry and Pippin etc... (like #2). Options 3 and 5 i kind of want to wait a little bit ... like Reyes Lord said: "you want to hold off on the Shelob thing a little." And then with them preparing for battle... AGAIN? I know it would be for Pelannor Feilds, but ending TTT, they had just finished the battle at Helm's Deep. I think the Battle of Pelennor Feilds should be more in the middle, because we've already got Shelob (most-likely somewhere near the beginning), The Battle of Pelennor Fields, and the largest climatic scene: Mount Doom and the destruction of the Ring. They're all large, suspenseful scenes and i think they should be spaced out. ~ Where TTT left off, i think RotK should begin. :)

Or it could mirror TTT ans show Gandalf charging down the hill at Helms Deep again and then cut to Frodo waking up again. It would be good to see that Frodo and Gandalfs connection is still there but it would be too much like TTT. Just a thought

I voted for Frodo, Sam, and Gollum travelling to Shelob's lair.
Concluding that ideal opening scene, I would then enjoy watching Aragorn and Co. preparing for war. :knight:

I voted for the first choice, but I think it wouldn't make any sense, seeing how screwed the storyline is already. Half of TTT must be portrayed in RoTK if you know what I mean.

Knowing PJ and his unorthodox opening of TTT he could do anything. Maybe it'll open in Gondor and establish Faramirs relationship with his father or maybe Mordor preparing for war?

maybe it will be a flash back just like the other one......... lol we wont really know till then...

I know it's not on the list, but I'd have to say Narsil being reforged in the opening minute. Picture it: Elladan and Elrohir remaking the blade and designing the seven stars on it, as Bilbo sits buy and recites: "All that is gold does not glitter, not all who wander are lost, . . . "etcetera.

oo that would be a good opening! Too bad the blade was already forged anew!

was it? I don't remember that happening in the movie. Maybe in the books, but not the movie....someone help me out here

You are correct, Legolas. In the movie, Aragorn did not receive Anduril before he set out from Rivendell. PJ thinks it's more appropriate for him to receive it when he sets out to war.

I would like to see it open with Pippen and Gandalf ridding to Minas Tirith, simply because I am very anxious to get therelol
But like it has been stated it really wouldn't fit into the timeline that PJ has left us with. It would seem odd going from just ending the battle of Helms Deep to Gandalf and Pippen ridding away to Gondor, especially since they are in different places.
So I voted for the "showdown" simply because it is the one that makes the most sense to me. Plus I am eager to see the fellowship together again:grin:

Totally agreed, Nurataliel. I want it to be the way it was in the book, but that's almost impossible since TTT didn't end like it did in the book. Too bad. :( I wish TTT was closer to the book. I bet they start out with Shelob's lair or at Isengard.

either would be fine with me. They might do it similar to TTT and introduce new characters (gollum in ttt) as quickly as possible.

I think that they will probably open with the reforging of Narsil as discussed earlier. I like that idea. Then I think they will either jump back to Frodo and Sam nearing Minas Morgul and Cirith Ungol, OR (and I think this will be more likely) they will show a few shots of the flooded Isengard and get into what we know he has to finish off with THAT... Merry and Pippin meeting the others and then the parley with Saruman. At least, thats what I think...
