WarRingers ...
We may want to be careful about some of the language that we are using. I haven't seen anything really bad on here and normally what has been posted would not be a point of concern. But, we do draw some lil' peeps here as well and even the slightest profanity may give some mother a reason to restict a younger fan from visiting with us! OUCH! No more War of the Ring?!? That's hard Mr. Frodo! mecry ;)

Thanks for the support Algamesh. We currently have two safties in place for such lauguage. The first is an automated sensor that will sensor inappropriate words to: *****. This system isn't perfect, and has a few glitches that we keep working on (i.e. at one point it was sensoring scraps to s****s, catching krap as a sensorable item). The second saftey we have is moderators like myself who keep an eye on things in each of our own little 'realms'. Unfortunately, between the two an occasional item slips through.
If you come across anything that you deem inappropriate, please notify a moderator of that section, and they will clean it up.
Thanks for your support of our site and helping to keep it family orientated.

14.... I hope you guys wouldnt think of 14 as too young to read profanity... because then i would be in trouble.... considering all the books I've read and movies I've seen.... lol

I'm 15 and although I am known to occasionally make a slip of the tongue, I agree that we should keep this site clean and " out of the gutter". It makes it much more friendly and it's easier to put forth opinions.

i'm looking (greatly) forward to my 16th b-day in a few months (vroom vroom!!!). i think its inevidable in todays world to be exposed to vulgar things but here i think with a community effort we can easily keep it decent.

I am 14 also and I think we should not use the really bad words. Some of you though were sounding like you are sort of old.

I'm also nearly 16 (vroom vroom, indeed) and keeping a PG status seems like a good idea. I admit I sometimes type the word 'damn.' I'll happily refrain if it bothers anyone.

Ahhh yessss......
Profanity......
Well, I have to agree with ArwenLiz, while there is indeed quite a bit of profanity used in todays movies and whatnot, and while youth today seems to be exposed to it quite early, we feel that there's no place for it here.
Like ArwenLiz said, for one, it's much easier to put forth opinions without vulgarity and these opinions are less likely to be taken the wrong way and less likely create friction between members without it.
LL you are right, some of us ARE older lol, and as such we feel a certain responsibility to set a good example and show that ability to use profanity is NOT a sign of intelligence and it definetly doesn't enhance a conversation.
We are striving to provide a friendly atmosphere for Tolkien fans of ALL ages, and we have a member or two in the 12-13 years old age range. As a parent I could not and would not allow my child to participate in an online environment that exposed him/her to that.
By all means, we encourage debates and conversation on a wide variety of topics from the serious to the sublime, and so far as I can tell, folks are having a lot of fun without cussing!!
So let's keep up the fun!! You folks are making this a great place to be, and I couldn't think of a better place to be!!

Also agrees whole-heartedly with the no profanity guideline.
I was most heartened to hear that it was mostly younger members who were supporting this stance... as well as Catz and Illu(!?).. who are at least young at heart!!
Long live the five six seven ect. word and down with the four!!!;)

Well, I never really used profanity much in the course of my life, except in extreme situations. To me it shows a poor command of the English tongue to rely upon the vulgar words to express your negative sentiments. So I'm pleased to see this site promotes the use of thought instead of reaction, expression as opposed to regression. Well done!

As I am not one to use profanity myself and being of the older contingent here, I too appreciate the absense of it in everyone's posts. There is absolutely no need to use it to describe anything that should appear on this site.
So as an older member, I applaud the censoring techniques applied to this site as well as each members' consideration in refraining from such language use.

well...most people that use 'profanities' don't rely on them to get their point across...but it emphasises it slightly...i guess....
