United Cutlery Corporation is a wholesale company based in Sevierville, TN. They carry numerous lines of knives and swords from brand names such as Colt®, Harley-Davidson® and Stanley® to well-known knife makers such as Kit Rae. United Cutlery is officially licensed by New Line Productions, Inc. to produce and sell specific swords from J.R.R Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" movies.

These pieces are not designed to be "combat ready" swords, but rather as display pieces. They are made from tempered 420 J2 stainless steel and are not sharpened (with the exception of the tip, which is sharp). Each sword comes with a certificate of authenticity as well as an easy-to-mount display plaque. United Cutlery prides itself on the practice of producing their swords to the exact specifications of the props that are used in the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

United Cutlery is a wholesale operation that sells exclusively to dealers and not to the general public. However, there are numerous companies that do sell UC products, most of which can easily be found by an internet search.

United Cutlery's Official Web site is:

Unfortunately, the site does not contain any information on expected ship dates or future products. Nor does the site seem to have been updated for some time.

Well, I really want a sting sword and I have been looking for one of the best quality. I can see that Browns sell them but my problem is the shipping cost nearly as much as the sword itself.

I could do with knowing an outlet for United Cutlery in the UK..... is there one... or can you direct me to the right thread?

Sorry I haven't had a chance to keep up to date on UC lately due to my military absence but here is some dated news:

UC has apparently recived licensing to expand their line beyond just swords to include the following:

STAFF REPLICAS
Gandalf the White (TTT)
Saruman

FULL SCALE HELMET REPLICAS
Elven Warrior
King Elendil
Gimli
King Theoden
Uruk Hai
Elven Archer

SAURON COLLECTION
Sauron’s Helmet,
Sauron’s Gauntet with Ring
Sauron’s Mace

GIMLI'S AXE REPLICAS

BOWS (non-functional)
Legolas bow, arrows, and quiver

SHIELDS (1/3 to 1/2 scale)
Elven Warrioir Shield

SPEARS/PIKES (1/3 to 1/4 scale)

In addition to the above, UC is currently working on the following items:

Strider's Elven dagger with sheath,
Legolas's daggers with sheath
Elven warrior sword from TTT

As of now, there are NO release dates for ANY of the above listed items. The only rumors I have heard is that the elven sword and the two knives are in production and may hit the market in a few months. However, this is only a rumor, and more updates will come when UC announces any release dates.

Just got off the phone with UC.

Gimli's Helm is scheduled to arrive on 11/12, Strider's Scabbard on the 14th.

Strider's knife has been pushed back to December.

The first shipment of Anduril and Legolas' knives (1500 each) is already sold out, all the rest are very close to being sold out.

If your retailer of choice didn't get his orders in on time (or in enough quantity) this could mean that your pre-orders do not get honored.

The next items UC is producing are Gandalf and Saruman's staffs and Theoden's sword. They are tentatively scheduled for march.

When did UC say that Legolas' white knives would be shipped? I know the original date was in July, but that has come and gone. When is the new expected date? Thanks!

Thorin
October 13th,2003, 06:02 AM
The last date I had was sometime in November (after the 14th) and that as of the other day it was "on time."

When I get an exact date on it and the others I'll post it.

By the way, it was never scheduled for July. Someone might have speculated that it'd be out then but UC has never said that. In fact, they were very tight lipped about dates for all the new items until about the last week of August.

Thorin
October 14th,2003, 04:55 PM
I have gotten word that Anduril might be arriving in country on the 24th of this month. So give it a week from that point to get to retailers, and a week to get to you, and customers could have it by the first week in November.

Thorin
October 23rd,2003, 02:50 PM
Its confirmed. Anduril is arriving tommorow.

The second shipment is arriving Nov 30th.

Bad news....

Here is the most recent info I have from UC.

Strider's Scabbard 11/14 504 pcs, 11/30 1000 pcs
Legolas' Knives JAN 2004 2,500 pcs - not confirmed
Strider's Knife JAN 2004 2,500 pcs - not confirmed
Anduril 11/30 1,400 pcs, Jan 04 1,000 pcs
Elendil's Helm Dec 04 1,500 pcs - not confirmed
Gimli's Helm 11/17 1.068 pcs, 11/30 432 pcs

This means, unfortunately, that Legolas' knives have been pushed back to January. Apparently they're starting over as they did not like how the first batch turned out. So atleast you know that they care about the quality of their product.

Ive been looking to get a replica sword from these people for some time.

Originally I was going to get Glamdring, but now theyve released Anduril am unsure. Any recommendations?

Thorin
December 3rd,2003, 07:19 PM
Glamdring is my favorite, it is very styling.

Anduril is the most popular though, and it will probably increase the most in value.

I just got word that UC is going to make a non-limited edition version of Anduril and it should be out in late January.

Treebeard
December 3rd,2003, 07:32 PM
Really increase in value? I just thought these things were for fun!

That really has made me confused. Do I want something thats going to increase in value, or a more personal thing?

Thorin
December 3rd,2003, 09:51 PM
Lots of collectibles increase in value. Especially when they're limited edition. The LE version of Anduril is going to be sold until by the end of December and thats it. No more. In ten years the sword might be worth $500 or something like that.

Glamdring is not limited edition and they'll keep making them for a couple years I'm sure. There will be more Glamdrings out there and Glamdring is not featured in the movies whereas Anduril is.

These swords are great items to display, they're awesome to look at, and they're great accessories to costumes. But one day you may want to sell yours and Anduril will be worth more than the others.

You could always get both.

Treebeard
December 3rd,2003, 11:59 PM
I had thought of the last option but I am a poor student in the UK who has to pay 17.5% VAT (because its classed as a luxury item) making them too expensive to get both.

Reading what youve put though i may get Anduril, Glamdring in the future.

Thorin
January 4th,2004, 01:54 AM
You haven't entirely missed out on Anduril. The unlimited edition, which is still very nice, is due out in Febuary.

Also UC does make Helms. Gimli's helm is out and in stock. Elendil's helm should ship this month. They also plan on making Sauron's helm and guantlet in the future.

Lotho
January 4th,2004, 04:01 AM
Yeah, the helmets are pretty sweet. But 'limited edition' just appealed to me more than any other item. I have an oppurtunity to get the Limited Edition Shards of Narsil but now it's a hard decision becuase of how sweet that helm is. I would get both if i had the money. Thanks for the info

Thorin
January 9th,2004, 05:22 AM
I'm sure they'll create a glamdring scabbard one day (btw it is also my favorite). It is a popular sword and purely from an economical standpoint it'd make sense.

What can i say? My LE Anduril turned up yesterday and I am stunned by the quality of it.

The thing that gets me the most are the runes, they are absolutly fantastic.

I would recommend this sword to anyone, especially if you can get an LE edition then you know yours is unique to the world.

I cannot thank you enough Thorin for recommending me to get this. It will soon take pride of place on my wall. Awesome.

Anyone in the U.K. looking for some of these items, I found a site called Uniquities online, I got my Sting sword from them and a Sting necklace which I've never seen anywhere else. They don't just do LOTR , although that was all I was interested in, and I thought the postage was quite reasonable, at £7.50 for up to 6 items, and the sword was one of the lowest priced I've seen. I'm hoping to get the sword of the Witchking at some point this year and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Heya Peppy,

Please, pretty please don't even entertain thoughts of fighting with that UC Glamdring you linked to. ;) It's got a stainless steel blade and rat-tail construction which adds up to mean something great for display but highly unsafe for ANY blade on blade contact. Large chunks of flying steel are not fun to experience (especially when they detach from your expensive licensed prop).

Stormcrow
October 30th,2005, 09:41 AM

Stormcrow
November 1st,2005, 12:08 PM
I like the plaques, the staff holders are very nice. But the sword plaques look nice to me. I like Glamdring's, but it would look nicer a different colour, maybe a blue. As for Anduril, the plaque is beautful, I love it.

Going back a few posts, I had a Glamdring that was dammaged by UPS so I decided to see what it would hold up to. I started by cutting small saplings (about an inch in diameter. It held up for about 15 cuts before snapping at the tang.

My UC Glamdring suffered a little discoloring from sitting in storage for six months during our move across country. I remember there was some instructions for care somewhere on this site, but my time has been too limited to find them. :-/ Will a product like Tarn-X brighten it up or do you think it will do more damage? I'm afraid to use it without asking.

TrueSwordsman
January 2nd,2006, 03:11 AM
Is it on the blade or crossguard?

Cassandria
January 2nd,2006, 04:03 AM
It is on the crossguard and the end of the hilt. It is darker, very dull, not bright like it used to be. :-/

TrueSwordsman
January 2nd,2006, 06:14 AM
The crossguard and pommel on Glamdring are aged with a coating. I would not recomend trying to buff out the age spots.

Wow, I was the last post back in January of 2006. I have been gone for a long time, but drawn back to WotR just like I re-read the books at least once a year.

My most prized possession is still my Staff of Gandalf the White. The only problem is that the paint has started to chip around the crown of the staff. The crown is a different substance than the shaft... some sort of metal, I believe.

*Googles it*

This authentically detailed staff is a reproduction of the one carried by Gandalf the White and prominently featured in The Two Towers and The Return of the King films presented by New Line Cinema. United Cutlery Brands, industry leader in fine movie reproductions, has meticulously recreated the actual prop staff using the finest grade materials and craftsmanship of the highest quality available. Close attention to quality is a top priority in every piece. This ethereal staff, with an overall length of 72", features an intricately detailed cast crown and a shaft constructed of solid wood. Each staff is presented with an antique iron finished wall mount with embossed designs.

I found that information, as well as something on eBay where it says the staff's commonly subject to chipping where the crown meets the shaft (no kidding)... and that's it's from bumping around during shipping. That explains why it was chipped when I purchased it, but it keeps getting worse and more pieces of paint keep chipping away. Does anyone know what I could use to touch up the paint or what I should do?
