Arms of Valor, Ltd. was founded in 1997 as a small family owned and operated venture in New England. Arms of Valor is a mail order company, operating almost exclusively through the internet, though they do occasionally make Renaissance Faire appearances.

Arms of Valor currently carries items from the following manufacturers: CAS Iberia, Marto, Generation 2, Windlass Steel, Last Legend, Paul Chen, and Untied Cutlery. They also currently have three US based craftsmen producing bows, leather products and wasters (wooden practice swords).

I have had the opportunity to work with the owner and have found him to be very knowledgeable and capable. Unlike most dealers, he actually uses swords in mock combat and thus has a good deal of ‘hands on’ knowledge relating to the items he has for sale. Arms of Valor has been kind enough to provide us with Lord of the Rings item’s for review and donated one of United Cutlery’s Stings for an upcoming contest.

The owner had the following to add about his company:

Since our [Arms of Valor] founding we have grown immensely, and have continued to put quality, customer service, and a love of swords above all else. With this philosophy in mind the business has grown along with the product line. Concentrating on one medium (the internet) allows us to keep our prices down, answer our phones, and meet our online customers' needs. By continually working to make our customers' shopping experience better we now offer a secure online shopping cart, toll free number (US, UK, and Canada),acceptance of all major credit cards, and with a large inventory faster delivery.

Personally, I have had nothing but good experiences in my dealings with Arms of Valor and highly recommend them.

Arms of Valor has recently reduced the price of their UC display sword 'Shards of Narsil' (http://armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=UC1296&Category_Code=LR) from $249.00 to $219.00. Of all the UC swords produced, this is the most likely to appreciate in value as there have only produced a total of 5000 swords, and each has its own serial number.

I've taken great interest in Strider's sword. Call this blasphemy, but I like the design of its hilt rather than Anduril's.

Arms of Valor, Ltd. now have higher quality bows available. The two new bows are the Limited Edition Lothlorien Bow with raised designs and the very new Mirkwood Bow. Both bows shoot like a dream and look closer to those used by Legolas in the movies than any other fully functional bow available.

OMG, TS! I want one of these. I wish this had been available before when I bought my 2nd edition bow. How does it shoot? Have you shot it??

TrueSwordsman
September 11th,2004, 06:21 AM
I have not shot the Mirkwood Bow yet, but it is hickory with bamboo backing! That should mean less stacking and more arrow speed. The LE Lothlorien Bow shoots like the 2nd Edition. I shot them both within minutes of each other and could not really tell a difference.

Both of these bows have gone through a great deal of R&D to get them just right.

I so want one of the LE Lothlorien bows. Darned expensive they are... I can't save up that fast. How long will you guys be able to sell them? I really want one but it will take me some time to get the money. :(

Our bowyers can only make 5 - 8 per month and so far are just able to keep up with the orders AoV has had. At the current rate they should be available for at least the next full year.

Laurelin,

AoV's first weapon from the Silmarillion is now available for order. It is very similar to your 2nd Edition Lothlorien bow so most likely you won't be interested, but it is still worth a look. Let me know what you think.

Wow, its quite nice looking TS! I noticed they shortened the length on it, but it still looks quite nice. How you shot it yet?

TrueSwordsman
September 13th,2004, 04:21 PM
I have not shot it yet. It is still with the bowyer. Like I said, the basic design is just like the Lothlorien 2nd Edition without the bumps and without carvings. So without shooting it I would say it performs the same.

With a more simple design AoV was able to cut some of the cost as well, and of course it goes with the theme of being an earlier bow, 1st age vs the 3rd age advances in design and beauty.

TrueSwordsman

AoV has gone beyond just selling the same replicas that many other companies are selling. Not only have they produced many unique bows and arrows, but have just produced their 3rd battle ready sword based on the works of Tolkien. As always AoV will not produce anything less than fully functional. This shows their dedication in combining fantasy with realism with bows that can be shot and swords that can be fought with!

Ringil has far exceeded all expectations in design, strength, and beauty.

I gotta say that AoV really sells some gorgeous stuff!!! I also thought I'd announce that I've managed to put together the money for the Limited Edition Lothlorien bow. For those that are interested, I will be posting pictures in the photo forum and in the Concerning Bows and Archery thread once I recieve it and shoot it. ;)

I knows, I'm drooling over Ringil, but yet, I'd like something smaller. I'm weird, I'm pratical, I could never lift Ringil methinks. I'm only a little thing after all, light and swift I must have, but Ringil is....pratical beauty I agree, at it's best. *sighs* I'd love one of those bows, like Haldirs, or the Lorien one, Laur ir a lucky dang elf, dang you, gloat dang you gloat! >.< :p ;)

Eriu does! lol just playin' ;) (well, with the kissing up part, I do value your friendship mellon! ) Le sigh, again, so many beautiful shiny...wonderous things, but so little money! Bah, I'd rather buy books than swords or bows. Anything that isn't food-is a luxury, believe me I learned that quick....well heck, food is a luxury, what am I talking about? LIfe is a luxury! O.o

I still want Ringil. :mmmm: Maybe for Xmas? O.o If business is good, maybe yes my precious....*GOLLUM* I mean...yeah ;)

Suilad, Mellon Nîn, (Hello, my friends)
I haven't posted here before, but have read nearly everything I have found here about archery!!
I have just received my Lothlorien Bow, 2nd edition yesterday!! :whoohoo: Beautiful bow!! It's been sooooo many years since I have shot a bow..(long ago and far away..literally!) As a kid we made our own bows and arrows..*need I say more as to what they looked like?? :p * lol
After I got out of school and got a job..I actually had a store-bought bow and some arrows!! lol *still have 'em back in Texas!!*
I can barely pull the string back on my Lothlorien bow!! pfbbt mecry Laurelin has given me some pointers as to how to build up my strength..and any other pointers about archery would be most welcome!!

Hello Ran...glad to see you in these parts of WotR! How wonderful that you got your Lothlorien bow...I must admit I'm so envious at you US guys for being able to pick up such cherishable items! The bows at AoV are so totally cool and beautiful!

I sure hope you didn't get a bow that's too heavy for you, that would be such a shame. :( But guess what...EVERY male friend of mine that's tried to pull back my 32 lb bow thinks its too heavy...including my dad and brother in law who both are big strong guys! I look at them and see that they are all standing the wrong way. So be sure that you're positioned correctly, and you'll find that it will be easier to pull it.

I used to string my bow every day after I got it and pull it 3-5 times with each arm in order to get used to it. Laurie also told me you can achieve the same with a rubber band but I never got around to getting one. The bow was sufficient anyhow so now I can go through a 2 hour practice with just a coupple of rests in between.

Great to have another archer in here!

Suilad, (hello) Cuiel..
Hannon Le (thank you) for the comeback.. My new bow is only 25-30 lb....so just need to build up strength again..I think..(I hope!!)
My old bow at home...if I remember right was somewhere around 40-45 lb..(..course as I said..that was long ago and far away!!) lol
I am stringing my bow several times a day and pulling it just a little past where it gets hard to pull.
lol Thanks for the kind words..mellon nîn..but lol I hardly qualify as an archer...yet!! But maybe someday...

Weeeeeell, back then I kept busy on the farm, just me with three little kids..(occasionally some help from a friend or two). but we had horses, cows, calves, pigs, goats. rabbits, chickens, ducks and geese..besides dogs and cats.. and a garden..(some days I'd be on the tractor plowing or using the brush-hog all day) lol..so had to stay active. I guess bringing hay bales.(square) in from the fields and stacking them in the barn probably helped..to say nothing of the feed sacks...*usually worked from "can-see" till "can't-see"!! * but as I said...that was long ago and far away..been a while since I unloaded sacks of cattle feed or stacked hay!! So I've gotta get busy and build up strength again!!
Awwwww. haven't really had a chance to practice yet! but...:cuddles: thanks!!

As promised... here's a piccie of me with the Limited Edition bow. Finally, I was able to shoot it! :hyper: Very nice, smooth draw, beautifully crafted, 40-45 pounds at 29 inches. I had the whole range standing there watching me and waiting for me to shoot it. lol

Would you be willing to write a short review (with pictures) on both of your bows? The reviews could be posted as a News Article for better exposure.

Just let me know if you are interested and I will make the arrangements.

Usually for me, I always scope out the person. Give them a whole bunch of questions to answer before I trust them with products. Or I just buy from online stores associated with eBay, buying products through eBay from said stores. Because people often buy merchandise and sell it off through their own stores online, for cheaper prices. Which I don't really understand. But if I want a genuine, undamaged item, I will always save my money up and buy it direct from its cheif source.
