You can view a description of the battle of Ugluk's Stand here (http://www.warofthering.net/armoury/thecampaigntrail/battles/ugluksstand/)

I think that the out come of the battle would have been entirely different if Ugluk would have attempted to make a break out at the same time as Mauhúr's attack. As the battle ran it's course, Ugluk and some of his Uruk-hai almost made it to the saftey of the woods on their own when the Riders attacked at dawn.

What if Ugluk had made his break out attempt when Mauhur attached? Would he have made it to the woods? How would the battle have changed?

I think you are right Orc, I reckon they would have made it. Though given the proximity of Treebeard and possibly other Ents, would they have got far?

They would probably have suffered a nasty fate at Saruman's hands too, having lost their prize.

good point fatty. Though the probably would have to had run directly into Treebeard to get him riled up.

I think Ugulk had a good chance of making it to the saftey of the woods had he attacked at night at the same time as Mauhur. The Riders would have been to spread out and the Orcs, Uruks and Uruk-hai would have had the advantage with their ability to see well in the dark.

The hobbits escaped with Grishnack who snuck through the lines at night. I'm referring to Ugluk and co. fighting their way out through the Rohon lines. At the end of the battle in the morning Ugluk and a fomation of Uruk-hai almost fight their way to the tree line before that are taken out.
