Hello -
A friend sent me a supposedly Elvish poem, and wished to have it translated. I tried on my own - but since I know virtually nothing about Elvish - pretty much just "Mae Govannon" and my name "Eldatari Laurea" - I had no success whatsoever.

Only now I'm all interested, and want to know what the poem means... If any of you could translate it for me, I would truely appreciate it - but if not, I understand - and will perhaps be forced to learn Elvish to figure it out...
I actually found a Sindarin dictionary, but NONE of the words from the poem where in there! So I'm at a loss....
I'll post it here, to see what all of you think...

It looks distinctly Sindarin, and I'm afriaid I'm learning Quenya, so I can't be much use! but try PM-ing it to Wilwarin - she'll be able to help!

Or you don't have to PM me, I'm right here! But I'll have to get back to you on the translation. I can tell just by reading it that the grammar isn't right, and some of the words are used wrong. But I'll have to get back to you.

Thanks -

I've been working on it, but haven't gotten far -- I am beginning to give up! Some of these words I can't find anywhere, in any elvish dictionary or anything...

OK, this is what I have so far. You're right, some of these words seem to not exist! I will put a qestion mark (..?..) representing each missing word.

..?.. To Me

She I ..?..
..?.. ..?.. without quenching

She ..?.. heals me heart
Or breaks ..?..

I I hold to the to jerk (move suddenly)
I to babble

Me butterfly
She ..?.. ..?.. to me.

As you can see there is still much missing, and what I have been able to translate so far doesn't seem to make much sense (at least not to me). There are many words—verbs mostly—that are used wrong. For instance: There are two instances where the infinitive form of the verb is used out of place ("ritho" and "glavro") "alcaro" behaves like a verb but I haven't been able to find out what it means. Also the pronoun "nin" is used in places where it should be "nín". I'm not sure if this is just a typo on your part or what. I'll keep trying to translate the rest of it and I'll let you know what I come up with.

It's not - I copied it exactly...

You don't need to finish translating it unless you want to, though. I've figured it out - sorry for the trouble!

Some one sent it to my friend, because she has a crush on him... Lol. And this is supposed to tell him that or, something. NO clue.
Lol - But thanks SO much for your help!!

No trouble at all, I hope I was some help to you. I'm glad you know what it means now, though I'm still in the dark, but that's OK.
