Ain't It Cool News talks to Peter Jackson about the ROTK preview.....
-- Posted by Dawn_Noelle on Thursday, February 27 2003 at 10:24 PM GMT
Peter Jackson says "As far as I'm aware the first ROTK trailer will hit cinemas about May or June."
"We're not doing a ROTK trailer for the end of Two Towers like we did last year. The reason is that the TT extended DVD has been so complex this year, it would have taken too many resources away from trying to get that finished."
"The FOTR extended cut had 35 extra CG shots - the TT extended cut has over 150. Weta are plowing through those, plus starting ROTK. We have a huge TT extended cut sound mix in a few weeks. It's all very complex and we deemed an early ROTK trailer as simply too much to take on this time around."
Well, it's unfortunate that they won't have a RotK trailer at the end of TTT, but from the sounds of it, TTT Special Extended Edition DVD will be very good! Maybe even better than the extended FotR! and the extended movie sound mix! Pretty Cool i think! ;) *Yells to Meriadoc_Brandybuck to get out of the Scouring Thread and bring the popcorn* ;)

I found the FOTR ext dvd wonderful! Now I can't wait for the TTT one! Any idea how long the screening time is?

When I recall objectively about FOTR, I always thought the Theatrical version had too many big pieces and important details missing, which the SE version filled in nicely, making the movie more complete.
But I like TTT just the way it is and only wish for a few minor details to make it complete (Like Faramir seeing Boromir dead in the boat as it floats by, and the hobbits at Wellinghall and the Ent draught) I guess I am hoping all those major important missed chapters will turn up in ROTK instead of in the Extended TTT.
I am too scared that added scenes will either steal from ROTK's potential, or else add more lame scenes, like more Arwen stuff or more Wargs. :elfeek: :( :elfeek: :( :elfeek: :(

Unfortunately, i think Arwen is going to be in the extended TT - there's been pics floating around of her at Helm's Deep :( I really don't think she should be at Helm's Deep! But other than that, i can't wait! ~*~ as for the screening time, Winyaél Greenleaf, i don't know, but i'll see if i can find out ;)

i thought the only pics of her at helms deep were the ones that weta didn't manage to cut out properly....
its a shame that there won't be a rotk preview at the end of ttt....i wanted to see it...

Yes I know I wanted to see the preview for ROTK at the end of TTT too. Oh well I guess thats what the element of surprise is for.

I wonder why they won't put a ROTK preview after TTT. A lot of LOTR fans would go to the cinema once more to see the preview. I know I would at least go two times if there would be a ROTK preview!

This is what Peter Jackson had said about it: "We're not doing a ROTK trailer for the end of Two Towers like we did last year. I seriously doubt Arwen will be there even in the Ext TT. That would take up far too much time and plot.
Ya know...I have an odd thought that there might be more time at Edoras, other than the front steps that Brad Douriff said. I'd like to know how Aragorn came by that red shirt, for one.
And does anyone else get the feeling Legolas and Gimli talked about the Countin Game previously? "That one counts as mine!," said Gimli. Of course, one may argue that even in the books they didn't come right out and say, "Hey, let's see who can kill more orcs!" But people would expect that in the movie.
And then there's Entdraguth...yay!! Me love that part. Theres' even a picture from it!! http://img-nex.theonering.net/images/europetttpromo/index_2.html
And from seeing that picture of Sam on this page I linked, I think we might be seeing them go down the cliff and the rope come down. That would be awesome!

What red shirt? I guess i missed that
And i hope that part with the cliff and the rope is in there! I really wanted to see that! It's always those little things that i particularly like that they cut! pfbbt But they usually put them back in in the Extended versions... so, that's what i'm hoping

What?! Arwen in Helm's Deep? How can that happen?! I don't hate Arwen, but I wish they would use the precious screentime for more relevant stuff.

Yah, i agree - having the elves there was one thing, but ARWEN! that's just not right! #1 it just plain doesn't fit! and #2 like you said, we don't need her there and it takes away time for other "more relevant stuff" :( I hope they totally cut her.... *crosses fingers*

People, they're not going to add a plot point as big as Arwen coming to Helm's Deep in the extended cut, especially when people would be really lost when she was suddenly there in RotK....
I think if they were going to put her in at all, it would be in the theatrical cut, and since that didn't happen... :)

I'm hoping you're right Orkybash. That does make sense not to have her in the Extended... let's hope it stays that way.

Here's news that TOrN is reporting about the TTT SE and the entdraught:
Towers Extended Edition News
Demosthenes @ 7:38 am EST
Ringer Fan Holbytla writes: I recently accumulated quite a backlog of movie/gaming magazines, and I've been slowly working my way through them. Most have little, if anything, to say about our favorite movies. So imagine my delight to turn to page 14 of the March issue of Cinescape magazine and find an interview with PJ about what to expect in the EE DVD of TT. And yes, Virginia, he says we will get ent draughts!
"There's whimsical stuff with Treebeard that I like a lot, where he's reciting poetry and it's appallingly bad poetry," PJ is quoted as saying. "There's a scene with Merry and Pippin drinking Ent draught, which if you've read the book you know makes them a little bit taller. They being hobbits, they quite like the idea that this magical fluid makes them bigger."
PJ goes on to say that most of the added scenes feature Treebeard or Gollum, which is requiring WETA to create 160 additional computer shots (the entire theatrical version of TT had 800). "I think it's going to follow a similar kind of pattern to what The Fellowship did in the sense that a lot of the scenes that we cut out are basically character development and dialogue scenes. There's not much in the way of action."

And, possible release dates for US??? This isn't 'official' news, but what a fan who works in a video store reports:
2-disc theatrical cut: August 4th, 2003.
4-disc extended cut + box set: November 3rd, 2003.
Orkybash
March 8th,2003, 06:33 PM
Methinks any release dates at this point are pure speculation. I haven't heard anything official from New Line. Keeping in mind the big event to announce the DVDs they held last year, I don't think they would quietly slip the retailers the release date this year....
But, what do I know... *shrug*

This may be a small thing, but it got me excited....I went to the official site today to check for updates, and in the top corner where all three movies are listed it said "The Return of the King: December 17, 2003" (it used to just say "Christmas 2003"). Seeing an actual date made me excited! :whoohoo: Only 273 days, 4 hours and 17 minutes to go! :)

I don't think that she will be at HD on the ExDVD. PJ originally shot Arwen arriving at HD w/ Rivendell Elves and Andruil. But, after much ado about nothing from the fans...he cut it out. That is why Haldir shows up instead. So, hopefully that footage will stay on the cutting room floor.
PJ said that most of the added scenes will be dialogue cut from the theatrical version to add more depth to the story. Such as the Ent Draught, more of the Ent descruction of Isenguard, etc.

Yeah......I heard that they shot Arwen coming to Helms Deep instead of Haldir, but Liv Tyler thought that it deviated too much from the story and from her character and so they cut it out....maybe that means that its likely she won't turn up at Helms Deep in the extended version cos that would completely change that bit of the plot around and I thought it was really good as is. But if they put in the Ents Draught bit...:whoohoo: because that bit was one of my favourite from the second book!

YayBoromir!
April 8th,2003, 05:46 PM
I don't know why, but I have the strangest feeling that each time I watch the next one at the cinema, I will think it's the best one of all, but in the end I will come back to thinking Fellowship's the best. That's what I did for TTT - afterwards I thought it was better than FoTR but now I think FoTR's better... I wonder if it will happen with RoTK?
Can't wait for TTT extended though. It's gonna be awesome. FoTR extended is my fave DVD ever!

April 8th,2003, 08:42 PM
hmm.... i still think that RotK is gonna be the best out of all the movies..... i dont know exactly why (especially considering it was my least favorite out of the three: FotR being my fav.), but there's so much that goes on... i just can't wait! :)

Really? It was Liv who thought it should be taken out? Good for her! That surprises me that she would say that. That would be a change that I just couldn't handle! And you're right, Shadowfax, they would have to do a lot of rearranging in order to let Arwen go to HD instead of Haldir. I'm going to cross my fingers that TT stays "as is" in regards to the Arwen at HD issue..... ;)

Liv is not going to be in the Deep. She used five months on learning how to use a sword, but they cut it out, he..
I don´t think she´ll be in the ee either, but she is in the cinema version! Haven´t you seen her?! ...they didn´t mean to have her there, but if you look really really closely you can see her half a second just behind Éomer.

Really? Do they cut "goofs" out for the DVD? I really hope so! I don't want to be looking out for the film flubs every time I watch it. Once I know about a mistake in a movie, I find myself looking for mistakes, instead of enjoying the movie!

In my case, once I figure out the magic of making the movie, I'd pay more attention to how fake it is instead of the actualy story...(is talking about her watching the X-men's making of the movie on TV today)
I NEVER want to see how they made the LOTR movie until they all come out in DVDs and I watch them all till I memorize em all and inhale it's magic...after that I'd look for the visual effects and such

I know what you mean. i think in a way it kind of ruins the movie. Like in TTT Legolas trips in one scene and now when ever I see the movie I always notice where he trips. Same with a couple other bloopers.
Mocha
April 11th,2003, 12:41 AM
Atleast the greatness of the movie covers these bloobers ;)
So in which scene did Legolas trip? Or wait!!! I don't wanna know! I'll ask you that again in a couple of years lol
