I just got my AS level exam results back today for History and I.C.T and there's good news and bad news.

Good News:
History - 86% - 77/90 - 'A' :) :) :)  :hooray:

Bad News:
I.C.T - 48% - 43/90 - 'E' :(

Oh well, I can always retake it in the summer, which is what i'll probably do. Anyone else had any recent results?

well done LD!

the highest mark i ever got on an exam (not counting 11+ practice papers cos they were so stoopidly easy they don't count) was 96% i think for maths......dunno how i got that though.....maybe they gt my exam mixed up with someone elses.....

Congrats on your A! They're really hard to get. I'm doing my AS levels at the moment and it's quite a struggle (especially with maths. Oh why, why, did I take maths!!!) At the moment I am predicted an A for English (yay!) a B for Geography and German (how, I don't know) and a D for Maths...erk. Oh well, I'll have to brush up on those equations... lol

Bonos-Girl
March 18th,2003, 07:50 PM
i;m scared...everyone says maths is really hard at a-level..and yet i'm gonna take maths and further maths...why?!

YayBoromir!
March 18th,2003, 07:54 PM
Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine if you understand it! If you have the courage to take Further Maths, you should do really well, as it probably means you're a natural. I think my taking maths has something to do with my mum being a maths teacher... mecry
I was never that good at maths anyway. I took it because it's a useful subject. Universities respect you for even attempting the subject.
I'm sure you'll do great, and I wish you good luck!

but i'm not entirely sure i do.....that being the problem...lol

March 18th,2003, 08:09 PM
Well, the best way to find out is to ask your teachers. They're the ones who have the most experience. :) Anyway, I wish you good luck in whatever you choose!
Further Maths is hard, it's the hardest of the maths exams. If you do think you are not up to it, Maths Statistics is the most straightforward of the courses. You'll just have to do some research and find out what is right for you. Although the common recommendation is if you get a high B, A or A* for maths GCSE, you should be able to cope with A-level.

I'm really worried about Maths AS. Actually I'm worried about all of them!
i've also just done a chemistry test but no one remembers being taught most of it. Our teacher is really bad and we spend most of our time making notes from the text book and ignoring him. Luckily the other teacher is much better.
Practically the whole test was about catalytic converters and we haven't even covered them!
He just makes me so mad verymad ugg, he's just so USELESS
OK, rant over

Bonos-Girl
March 18th,2003, 08:12 PM
i really hope i get A* for GCSE...my teacher thinks i will....but then again..i don't really trust her....i'm just hoping for a B...cos then if i do gte A* i'll be pleasently surprised!

YayBoromir!
March 19th,2003, 05:45 PM
If you get an A* you should be able to cope with it. I got an A for my GCSE but I know someone who got a B and then got a C for AS Maths, which is really good!

Bonos-Girl
March 19th,2003, 05:54 PM
wow...your friend must be really clever....loadsa people who got A's at GCSE are getting low Cs or Ds for AS and A level at the moemnt...

YayBoromir!
March 19th,2003, 05:58 PM
In terms of percentages, a D or C at A level would be a C or B at GCSE. An E is still a pass at A level, and everyone's grades tend to drop. It's because there isn't an A* grade at A level. My aim is to get a C for AS Maths. I'm only taking it for AS anyway :)

Bonos-Girl
March 19th,2003, 06:03 PM
i think you'll get it!! good luck!

March 19th,2003, 06:04 PM

My least favourite exams are oral exams for German. Urgh... mecry I just can't seem to do them! Every time I go in the room my mind just goes blank... it's so annoying. For my French GCSE I got 5 out of 8 points for the oral overall...but it got marked up to 6 with a remark appeal  because I was only one mark off the next grade! That was lucky!
There were some serious remark issues - My English Literature grade was marked up by 28 MARKS! :o How inaccurate was that?!

Bonos-Girl
March 19th,2003, 06:20 PM
omg..thats crazy!! :elfeek:

you're really lucky for your french!! i alwasys thought it would be awful to be one mark off an a* or an a or summat....then i met someone who had got one mark off A* for musc......she was so annoyed!! lol

YayBoromir!
March 19th,2003, 06:23 PM
It is, isn't it! The madness...roflmao I was happy about it, though! And I wasn't the only one who was marked up by that amount!!!

Did she get a remark for music? You can appeal (providing it's close to the time you got your result), and it's worth it if you are only 1 or 2 marks off.

They lost one of my GCSE Latin papers and when it was found my grade went up from B to A. If my mum hadn't noticed the mark meaning 'candidate was absent for 1 of the papers' I would never have known or got the mark changed - How lucky was I that I was so incoherant about what I got my mum had to look at the results herself! (at first when I told her she thought I hadn't actually opened the envelope and I was telling her my results!)

YayBoromir!
March 19th,2003, 07:23 PM
Wow, that was lucky. And also lucky that it was found! Anyway, congrats on your A! I've never done Latin, but it looks difficult!
I had to wait an extra week after everyone else to get my results because I was on holiday...:( It was so nerveracking...

Bonos-Girl
March 19th,2003, 07:35 PM
well done...how'd you gte an A on latin?! nevermind....lol

Luck and guesswork mainly!
I swear I still remember the set texts. they were OK cos basically you just had to learn the stuff off by heart.
Still - it was quite a surprise! The headmistress phoned us the next day to tell us they had found the paper and what grade I'd got. We were out at Sutton Hoo sitting in the car park and I accidently shattered a glass and sprayed the dog with drink. Her fur went all frizzy afterwards!

YayBoromir!
March 19th,2003, 11:35 PM
lol lol lol funny story Elbereth!
The exam board do mess things up sometimes, but at least it turned out OK in the end! Well, apart from your dog's point of view! roflmao

Probably getting my Geography results tomorrow, am not looking forward, my friend who is brilliant in almost every subject only got 69%, so I'm dreading my results.
Then I have a big Science test on thursday and next monday. I hate this time of year with tests and everything. Though something cheered me up today, I watched the teachers netball match with Year 11. lol It was so funny. ;)

March 25th,2003, 06:11 PM
I got 33/60 and 39/60 for my Geography AS mocks, which is about a C, and that's not bad considering I only did half an hour of revision lol lol lol I will do more for the real exams though!!!

Geography results 64% quite dissapointed, but everyone got about that much. On the other hand Maths test 88%!!! Was very pleased, and English mock exam I got a Leval 7, highest in my class! Was very very happy, as the English teacher is quite a tough marker. Very happy, but on Monday have another Maths test and Science test. Way too many exam's going on. :p

I think I really bombed it, so i'll just have to see how it goes. It was on The Winters Tale by Shakespeare but I had a really sucky question.

My school is killing us gradually, but surely with tests, have a maths test tomorrow and a big French verb test. So unfair. :(
