I am a proud veggie! I have been my whole life, my mother is one and raised me that way. People act very strange when they find out.....its not because I'm righteous about not eating animals, its just cuz i'm raised that way. I eat dairy, but not poultry.

Sheesh! I guess I would have to agree with Gimli's appetite ... beer & red meat off the bone!

I could never convert to vegetarianism! I can't imagine life without steaks, bacon, burger ... ham ... uummmm ... I'm hungry now :)

Most non-veggies say exactly the same thing: "I couldn't live without it!" But if you've never had it at all.... you don't notice.:)

Hmmm ... now this is an interesting statement ... almost as thought provoking as "I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve"! hahahaha!

Mirky ... I'll be deciphering this for a week ;)

catz eatz meat...yummmmm...actuall i love vege food too...and i'll happily eat vege meals, but i need the odd steak...the rarer the better....one day i'll find a resteraunt that does your steak blue when you ask for it :naughty: just to gross out you veggies, a blue steak is browned on the outside and raw in the middle delicious!!!;) lol i also like Carpaccio, which is thinly sliced raw meat with a lemon and oil dressing, and parmesan flakes....*sluurrrpp.....catz licks her chops, and wanders off to find a steak* lol

I eat meat, but I feel more or less disgusted everytime I do. So I should become a vegetarian, really. I can eat hamburgers and things like that, because it's not as obvious that they're dead animals. But steaks and all that.. especially bloody steaks, yuck! Vegetarian food is great.. most of the time it's a lot nicer than non-veggie-food anyway. And it's usually a lot more fresh, because not as many people want it.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I try to eat as little meat as I can.

Do it and become one! I had the same attitude, i felt nearly sick when looking at rare meat...i knew it was wrong to have something that had been so alive, dead, just to keep me going!

GO VEGGIE! :hooray:  - dunno why that's here! :)

Well I must admit to having been a vegetarian for som ethree years, though mostly i must sy to placate my elder sister (woman can be so bossy). Anyway I then went to Australia for a year and that went out the window.

I still eat vegetarian meals as some of them are excellent. Though I am not so sure about the healthy thing, a lot of vegetarian stuff is full on fat, nuts etc. Can be very unhealthy just like a bad omniverous diet.

Morally I don't feel guilty or sorry fro the animals. I do disagree strongly with poor conditions and mis treatment. However, it is IMHO the worst kind of hypocracy to feel guilty about it and still scoff them. My other pet hate are vegetarians who eat fish and chicken. :-)

It is a tricky one, where do you draw the line.........the beetles used for dye in red cola, shoes, bacteria in dough.........

I have no problem with vegetarianism as long as not rammed down my throat ;-)

I have heard so many arguments over this, from we are top the food chain, to we are advanced enough no tto eat meat. I think it is up to individuals.

Though as I said I have no time for cruel conditions etc.

i tried vegetarianism a couple of years back and found that if a meal doesn't have meat in it thet i probably wont bother with it. Because of this i lost 35lb in 5 weeks which was quite alot considering i started at 175lb.

since then i haven't even thought of going veggie again.

Rare meat is absolutely bad for you! Have you heard the stories about beef!? Ewwwww they strip it from its skin while its hanging upside down - WHILE ITS ALIVE! and there is no way to get out the diseases in cows. and without cooking the meat there is a 78% chance of getting whatever its called... some disease. yuck! If your gonna eat meat at least cook it!!:o

oh please A!Elbereth....dont believe everything you hear.....
that may happen in the States....dunno, dont live there....but i do know that we have the most stringent meat production rules in the world...so diseased cows dont get into works chains for a start.....they are skinned upside down, but honey, theyre dead.....its really the only way to skin a beef carcass.....quite aside from anything elses, do you have any idea how much a beef animal weighs?....would you really want to try to do something painful to an animal that size handing from the ceiling? think about it......
and what disease is this?...yes, there are diseases you can contract from raw meat......there are also diseases you can contract from cooked meat....hell, there are diseases you can contract from breathing....i'll take my chances, thanks....
and please, all foods are broken down by your digestion into the same things...as long as they are not actively poisonous, or taken in to excess, there is no such thing as bad food.....
Whew.....thats the rant for the day:naughty: lol

Oh please eh? Well Geez Catz I didnt ask you to debate! (didnt ask you to believe me either) hmmmm.... Maybe you havent heard it, but i know what I am talking about. So please dont accuse me of stating false facts. (Judge: INNOCENT) lol you strongly believe in your raw meat eating habits - and I strongly believe in my facts about raw meat. Why dont we leave it at that, hun. Debate settled? lol

...When I was bumming for 6 months last year and had time to really practise yoga, I stopped eating all meat except for a bit of fish. Kept to diary products though. And I must say, there were some great improvements to general well being. Felt that my mind was clearer....there's the belief that its easier to digest a simple, "purer" meal; and it makes the person lighter in body and spirit....
Oh well, then worked caught up with me, and its SOOOO difficult to find healthy vege meals, where I come from, and long story short, I fell off the wagon, so to speak... But i do miss that clear-minded sense of well being.

In a nutshell, vegetarianism is good

what facts?...that you can get diseases from raw meat?....yes thats a fact...and i didnt disagree with you on that at all...merely pointed out that you can get diseases from all sorts of things, and badly cooked meat is one of the worst....but if the meat is from a healthy animal there really is little risk, tho there is one.
as for raw meat being bad for you, that is NOT a fact....that is an opinion....which you are entitled to, but you are not entitled to state it as a fact....any more than you can baldly state that : "they strip it from its skin while its hanging upside down - WHILE ITS ALIVE!"

....now that may have happened, tho youd have to be an idiot to try it...think about it...a panicked beast, kicking out......not me, very dangerous and very time consuming, and completely uneconomic....but that does not happen in a registered works here, so its hardly a fact to pretend that it happens all the time

"without cooking the meat there is a 78% chance of getting whatever its called... some disease"
and this is hardly a fact either, now is it? not unless "whatever you call it" is a disease....but quite aside from that, you can get a nasty case of Campylobacteriosis (i think i spelt that right ) from a lettuce......

now i have in fact worked in meat processing....have you?....i have friends who work on killing chains, and have been into several freezing works....have you?
you are entitled to your opinions.....and if you dont agree with killing animals for food, thats fine.......but making these sorts of claims just harms your cause......
Yes there have been cases of awful cruelty in some places....but to lump all works under those worst case senarios is like saying that because there is cruelty to cats and dogs, pet ownership should be outlawed....
and this is really quite off topic.....:embarras: sorry Arien.....but i really hate opinion masquerading as fact.....

and hey....im not dissing vegetarianism at all....i love vegetables, and vegetarian food, and in fact only eat meat once or twice a week....but i really enjoy it when i have it....wouldnt want to go without it totally ;) lol

My Lady :catz: , you come from a wonderful country (been there before, so I know :p ) where all your meat and diary products are of the highest standards, and I'd have trouble staying off meat if I was there! lol

Like everything else in the world, vegetarianism is a personal choice, for what ever reasons that motivates a person.

Also, I think badly prepared food is just that - badly prepared food! Whether its high grade kobe beef ,to a salad prepared from the vege grown in my back yard, if its not properly cleaned and properly cooked......well....

really though, tales about the poor cow being hung upside down and stripped while alive?.....hmmmm....

Yes Catz.....while it seems that we all have strong feelings about this, the topic is vegetarianism, not a debate over animal cruelty or anything in that realm.....
