Yep I have read and loved the Earthsea trilogy ... and one of my favourite descriptions of death comes from Wizard of Earthsea .. when Ged says "For a word to be spoken there must be silence before and after" ... really great stuff

Ursula K LeGuin has such a way with words. I read them and really enjoyed them.

wonderful books....i loved her dragons....wise and and old and totally, utterly alien.........and Ged/Sparrowhawk is one of the most believeable heros in modern fantasy.......letting his own foolishness draw him into depths that he just cant handle.....and then........and this is the kicker, then having to live with the consequences....becoming wiser, and definitely sadder..........i say again lol............WONDERFUL books ;)

I've only read the first one. I didn't really think it was that good though.

I only came across them in the past six months, but I was very very impressed, I must say! The logic behind the magic is almost believable (thus speaks the cynic! lol) and incredibly complex - and I'd agree with the earlier comment - Ged is a fine hero, because you don't get the idea that he is infallible. The first book really drew me in.

And, although I haven't read the third and fourth books yet, they are on my summer reading list!

Has anyone read these books?? Since I've finished LOTR and Harry Potter, I'm sort of at a loss for things to read. Someone suggested these. Any takers?

You mean "A Wizard of Earthsea" and the ones that follow it?
I've only read the first one but would like to read the others if and when I get my grubby mits on them.

I personally like it, but I think that's kind of book that either you like it and can read it, or you don't and you can't.

Give it a try!

I will definately pick them up.

When I did a google search about the books, I found out that Sci-Fi's doing a mini series based on the books. Which means that I definately have to check them out.

I can't wait to read these books! I loved the miniseries, and like we all know, the books are probably better...so i'll be reading that when I'm finished His Dark Materials.
