Why is your signature so long :-) Shorten it please.
As for the Silmarillion, what do you mean, like a quizz?
Oh and Welcome :-) The sig rule is new but if you could shorten it that would be great!

Melkor - Well Met!
I don't know that I have any quiz form questions to ask you at the present, but, it is obvious that you are knowledgable enough about the Silmarillion to offer "Ask me anything!"
Therefore, I invite you to use this forum as a tool to review aspects of Tolkien's great myth with us. Currently, there are a few open-ended posts that you could provide an opinion on (Turgon's Folly, Essence of Myth, etc.). Please do so! Looking forward to your valuable contributions!

Well, seriously.. Why is allways villains so stupid? Like you-know-who hanging up Maedhros over that cliff instead of killing him right away..? It's like that in quite many books I've read "Well, now I put you in this room where I claim you can't escape from, but these traps are really quite easy to get past, you know.." It is so stupid and I think that people who want to take over the world should be able to do better... ^_^

thats so true i find! like in all of those James Bond movies, they have him at gunpoint and they say "sit in this chair" and so he does, and they plan to drop like an anvil on his head or blow him out of a helicopter or s/t and then he does something like press the escape button or convince the female evil person to sleep with him instead...
ok so that was me venting a bit about stupid movies, but you must admit its all at least half true.

lol roflmao
You never fail to crack me up, Black Rider. ;)
But Gayahithwen makes a good point and asks a good question.... Melkor seems to have evaporated or spontaneously combusted or some sort or perhaps he could answer it. :)
Instead I shall try!!! The villains usually seem to be so wrapped up in gloating that they seem to look past obvious escapes. Be it Morgoth or Saruman or that guy with the cat in James Bond, its a re-acurring plot theme. Does that make any sense or was it an un-neccesarily serious reply to an un-serious question?

Perhaps a cry for attention on the villian's part. A lack of affection in their youth? I can see Freud's analysis right now.
*Melkor lays down on couch*
Freud - "Now tell me about your mother."
Melkor - "Well, I don't have one."
Freud - "I see......"
Sorry way off topic, but I couldn't resist. But then again, Melkor seems to have forgotten us so does that mean free game on his thread? ;)
In the case of the Hollywood villian, the gloating is indeed so the hero can escape, because everyone knows the hero simply cannot die.

i think that with Morgoth it was that he wasnt exactly 100% evil, there was still some compassion in him, and he let it get the best of him that time.
and we can also spend all of our time complainging about hollywood and it's lack of reality, but that'll never change the fact that no matter how old the James Bond actor gets, they'll replace him with another younger, hotter one after 7 or 8 movies. (but i'd like to see someone hotter than Pierce Brosnan... hmm, maybe Orlando. ::swoons:: )

Freud! lol
We're not really off topic, we're just answering Gayahithwen's question because Melkor doesn't seem to be around! :)
(Orlando as James Bond? I don't think I could bare to see the poor boy in a Bond film - blech!)
Anyway, perhaps Melkor was having some repression problems or feeling inadequate, no doubt the best way too vent those feelings is hanging someone from a cliff, he just wasn't bothered to think it through.

Was Morgoth really so full of malice and evil, or was he just lonely and starved for a good cuddle?

Well... I do have a question...
Who is Legolas married to in the end??
(I can't believe all the girls who fell in love with Orlando Bloom put me up to this)
Self-answer: He never did, went out to the west like the rest of them dumbfounded elves after prancing around Middle-Earth with Gimli, the old dwarf...
Hahahha....
Okay, seriously speaking... How MANY elves are there in Middle-Earth before Galadriel and the rest of the High-Elves took off to the west??
I'll be waiting...
