I was just wondering , if you had to pick a favorite new character (that we are introduced to in TT), who would it be? So if you are so moved, vote for your "fav" and let me know what you think! :) So, without further adieu (sp?), I'll say that my favorite new character would be Théoden.
Just a note, I includud Gollum in this poll, because we don't really get to see his character come out until TT. :)

Yeah, I'd probably go with Theoden too. It would have been Faramir if he had have actually resembled his character from the book though. Oh well. Theoden it is.

Yeah, I would agree.

I voted for Eomer because, even though he wasn't in the movie very much and his character was altered slightly from the book, he was the type of man that Eomer needed to be. Strong, willful, loyal, intelligent, and a great leader. If "movie" Eomer was leading my Cavalry troop I would fight to the death for him.
P.S. - (I'll put this in my signature from now on). . .

I would go with Gollum. Firstly, the CG effects were great, secondly, Andy Serkis did a great job with the voice and all. And the character is so intriguing... like you know... Gollum is so evil, and Smeagol is so pity-deserving.

Theoden. He is my second-favourite king (no one beats Aragorn), and his recitation of the Lay of Eorl is beautiful.
Grima Wormtongue
March 21st,2003, 06:17 PM
i would go with gollum, but he was introduced in FOTR :)
Celebrían
March 21st,2003, 06:47 PM
I know, but he doesn't really do much of anything in FOTR, so he was included. ;)
Saruman
March 21st,2003, 08:05 PM
What about Grima and Treebeard (my favourites)
Celebrían
March 21st,2003, 08:15 PM
*hits self* Well gosh, I completely forgot about Treebeard. (I know, I know, I'm sorry) Please accept my apologies! When I made the poll I was thiniking of the "human" characters (well, Gollum is border-line, I guess, but I HAD to include him!) But if you like Treebeard the best, just post instead. ;) I like him, too.

Although hes not technically a new character - Gollum ;)
Saruman
March 21st,2003, 08:33 PM
True, but it is the first time we really get to see him up close, and how he interacts with other characters.
Celebrían
March 21st,2003, 08:38 PM
......and that's my reasoning for putting him in the poll! ;)

I voted for Eowyn. I think she is a very beautiful and in-depth character in the movie.

Éowyn is my role model!!! lol I love Éowyn! (in the friendly way ;) ) She's my favorite female character in LotR. (Frodo and Sam being my overall favorite) I really like how she's more... what's the word... "tomboyish" no, i don't think that's the word i'm looking for... but she's not like "girly" if you know what i mean. Like in TTT she says "I fear neither death nor pain..." and she wants to go fight, but yet she's not all "macho" about it (like some girls i know...) In my opinion, she's just go the "right" attitude. And I think Miranda Otto was perfect for the role

I chose Gollum. PJ changed Faramir too much from the book. Otherwise I would have picked him.

I choose Faramir. I really liked him in the movie even if he wasn't that close to the book.

Ok lets say why I wouldn't vote for the other 4
First Gollum, well he's deff the best thing in the movie, but that doesnt make him my favourite in any case.
Faramir ... need to say more? This wasnt Faramir in anything but name
Théoden - the whole exorcism thingy with Saruman spoiled the characted IMO
Éowyn - well I didn't see Éowyn. She did look girly IMO. And she acted girly. She can fight ok, but I didn't see the lust to death or love or anything but this. She was just a little bored royalty, who knew how to weild a sword (the way she said women can as well, sounded as if she cares about that no more than a reason to bat lashes and swords around the sexy king)... I don't like the character of Éowyn in the book much but PJ managed to make it worse. Well, done Mr Jackson.
And here goes Éomer. He was good. He deserves more than 2 votes hint-hint ;)

of course! Don't you just find that sooo attractive Galadriel ;) haha ooo that guy is so creapy... it annoys me when he overpronounces his words, like when he says, "That. Is a lie..... Sar u man has forever bEEn our friend... and ... al lie..." (doesn't that just bug you? ... it's so Wormtongue though, so Kudos to Brad! lol )

it was so cool...and when he as talking to eowyn with the whole "as cold and pale as a spring morning still clinging to winter's chill" (or summat like that anyways...lol). it was so cool!!!
Celebrían
March 27th,2003, 11:30 PM
Yeah, I agree, but what I REALLY loved was the very first line that comes out of his mouth, "THAT is a lie!" Very creepy. :o You have no doubts as to whose side he is on, even from the beginning.

Gollum Gollum Gollum!! :) They really did great with his character. Gollum is the best thing in the movie. He looks better than he did in FotR. They changed his looks a little in TTT.
HobbitFriend
March 29th,2003, 08:34 PM
yah, I liked how he looked in TTT better than FotR, but it's kinda cool because in FotR, you don't really know him yet, and the way he looks, he does look like some strange, evil creature of the night... as opposed to TTT when he comes back out into the light and becomes "Smeagol" again, and you do really "pity" him... I definately agree that Gollum was just perfect! Everyone else was too... but Gollum was just a very difficult character to portray in my opinion, and Andy Serkis hit it right on!

I can't vote, because I think they're all excellent. Well, with the exception of Theoden and Faramir...only because they deviated so much from the true characters. The others, however, were good. Didn't get a chance to "get to know" movie Eomer because he had so few scenes. (poor Eomer...got also less screen time then Gamling (sp?).)
Hmmm...guess that leaves Gollum, Eowyn and Grima! Excellent!

I voted for Gollum. Okay so he's not human and he's not really new, but here's my reasoning. TTT torked me off so bad with all the plot twisting and "improvising" imposed on the book for the sake of the film, that it took me a few screenings before I eased up a bit and decided to like the movie. I realize that it must be tough to put 400+ pages into three hours, but the way they muddled things and made things up just...GRRR! Anywho, I voted for Gollum because he seemed to be the one character that fitted Tolkien's description the best, and PJ seemed to make the greatest attempt to keep it that way, versus many other characters. Sorry, long winded, but choice explained. Thanks for your time, sorry to slow ya down.

I have voted Faramir for some reason. I really didn't like the changes in his character but somehow David Wenham's preformence seems to make those changes seem... okay. Of course his character was messed up, but that's the fault of those (stupid) scriptwriters. If Faramir was kept true to the books, Dave Wenham would have rocked as Faramir! Gollum was cool as well but I didn't want to vote him for some reason (I don't know why) Theoden was also great but he wasn't the friendly old man I imagined. :(
Celebrían
April 2nd,2003, 10:06 PM
Yeah, you're right. David can't be blamed for the changes. He was just doing his job. I bet he'll be better in ROTK.

I picked Faramir... but mostly because I have read the books to back me up on how Faramir really is. ;)

I vote for Faramir, even though his charactor isn't that lovely in the movie, but I still love it cause now I have a picture of how he is supposed to look like, even though I don't know the difference in looks between him and his younger brother :( guess someone has to watch FOTR again

Such a pain to have to watch it again, I know...... ;) lol
