Which armour style do you like the best? I like the Helm's Deep Uruk-Hai. It looked cool.

I like the Prologue Gondorian armour. I dislike GREATLY that horrid-looking plate armour that the soldiers at Osgiliath wore. Those pointy hats do not work for me. The Tree and Stars forever!

I didn't really care for the other armour.

It's funny, but the Third Age Gondorian armour strikingly resembled Isildur's armour during the Prologue.

I thought that the Armor worn by the Riders of Rohan was very cool (it was very rich in Viking lore). I agree with Lady Ashley in regards to the pointy hats!

The armor of the Sindarin Elves during the Battle of the Hornburg (Helm's Deep) especially Haldir, was awesome. The Numenorean armor during the Battle of Dagorlad in the Prologue was really great too. Eomer's and Theoden's armor has a great texture and devastating look to it.. But like you said, the Gondorian infantry during the battle at Osgiliath in TTT was hideous. They look like the Planet of the Apes armor. It was ridiculous.

Haldir's Armor was the best!

The Easterlings armor was really magnificent. Their helm's are really cool, and the scale armor was a great idea. The Southrons are pretty cool too, they're more rugged and really fit the descriptions of a Corsair.

Definately the Uruk-hai heavy armour from TTT! Very cool and a bit more impressive than the light armour worn by the Uruk-hai in the FotR.

Well, I do love Gil-galad's armor, and his 'crown' is totally awesome, though you don't see it much.

I see a lot of bashing of the TA Gondorian armor. Why? I liked it, those were traditionaly medieval looking to me, but i am not an expert. They looked a little like the armor of the Conquistadors(sp?), but...

The elf armor looked a bit Roman to me, the leaf pattern reminded me of the scale armor they wore. And the Romans had the leaf-like pattern on their shields. And the Rohirrim, yeah, Vikings. I like Vikings, they're awesome. When they're cornered, and there's no way out, they strip naked and run screaming wildly, slashing away. War has a lot of mentality to it. I'm sure that this had great effect, just as the Zulus did with their chanting (not a good word I don't think). Hey, speaking of Zulus, in the Gladiator, in the beginning with the barbarians, the beginning part of their chanting is from the movie Zulu. Ridley Scott says it's one of his favorite movies. It is cool!

Whoa, got a little off subject I think...well, anyway, I have to go with the Elves. But it's hard to pick which one... I think the Sindarin. My brother talks about how they shouldn't have had the blue cloaks so you could've seen more of the armor, but I that was awesome. Okay, I will shutup now! lol

*Rant Alert*

Ok, I have to take issue with the Galadhrim being called Sindarin Elves and thus their armour Sindarin! verymad

Lothlorien is populated by Silvan and Noldorian Elves. Not Sindar! :nono: The Silvan Elves did not have very much technology in the way of arms and armour. Thus, INMSHO, I think that the armour of the Lorien elves is an evolution of the 2nd Age Noldorian armour. It has a ~very~ similiar design - the scale armour is different color and the aesthtics were probably influenced by the Silvan Elves. :read:

Please, note that the Elves at HD carry the same Elven Warrior Swords as in the Prologue. And the Bows are almost exactly the same as the Elves of the Last Alliance. Not to mention the fact that Haldir's sword is like a two-handed version of Hadhafang <= supposedly Noldorin in design.

So, if you are going to refer to the armour of the Elves at HD - ~please~ refer to it as Lorien armour or Galadhrim armour. ~Not~ Sindarin armour. Clearly, the Sindar had very little knowledge of making armour, as most of their gear was made by the dwarves for Elu Thingol. The gear that Legolas has from Mirkwood is ~wildly~ different from the arms and armour of the Elves at HD.

*sigh* Ok, I got that off my chest. Please, continue.

I need to brush up on elves, I get confused when it comes to the different types, where they live, and especially when it comes to their history. Thankyou, Voro (may I call you that?), we appreciate greatly the sharing of your wisdom.notworthy

Hey, Tyrien are you a WoT fan? :)

Tyrien Sedai
March 29th,2003, 02:41 AM
Hey, I wonder! My name is only SEDAI! Just kidding. Yeah, though I'm only on the second book, I love them. I read too slow. But, that's the price you pay when you try to read another 7 or 8 book series at the same time!:) Are you?

You know, I have this love/hate relationship with these Aes Sedai. They are pretty witchy, and seem like feminists sometimes, but, at other times, they're cool. I like Nyneave, she rocks!

I also like Gawyn a lot too. Well, his name comes from my fravorite knight- Gawain. Elayne, in Arthurian legend, has a relation to the knight Gawain, and Morgause is a Queen and Gawain's mother. In some legends, Elayne is Gawain's sister. Sorry, rambled on a bit.

Doh! ::slapping forehead::

Yeah, I used to like WoT, back when I was on the oh, 5th or 6th book. I started reading the series over a decade ago. My message to RJ is: Just get on with it man! Lordy. He knows how to draw things out. Haven't read the two most recent books, even tho I have them.

I prefer Terry Goodkind. Those Mord-Sith women rawk! Now, they have some ~interesting~ armour! lollol

The Galadhrim's cloaks were purple, not blue.
Voroturion, to clear things up more on the Galadhrim and the armor, have the poll edited also, it might help.

Hmmmmm... "Interesting" armor, eh? *wink, wink* *nod, nod* eh?:naughty:

About RJ drawing it out, I agree, but I kinda like that. I guess I have more patience than others when it comes to books. But, really, only when it comes to books!

Man, I can never escape you guys talking about women in skimpy clothing (or armor). These guys on my other message board went on about how they wanted to see Arwen and Eowyn fight, and lets just say that that once innocent little thread now contains some *ahem* 'suggestive' themes *ahem*.

i agree with Voro's choice of faourites, and u made a good point bout the armour. but you have to remember that the elves of the last alliance werent all noldor, Tranduil had a large host of the elves of greenwood the great, they had heavy loses in the batte cos they didnt want to wait for the orders of Gil-Galad to attack

The Rohirrim looked real cool in their armour especially when they were wearing green cloaks. The Galadrim had such beautiful armours and weapons, that I think it's a shame they had to use them in battle. The Noldor looked cool also but the Rohirrim win in my book. About the Gondorian plate armour: It looks kinda stupid, but you can't expect them to stick around an entire age without making some progres in armour-desighn. But, u are right when you say it looks stupid.

I liked Eomer's armour the best out of all the Rohirrim. Although, I did like the green cloaks that Hama and co. wore. They had a celtic type design lining the edges - it was very cool.

I've moved this thread from the Armoury to the Smithy cuz it'd be more appropriate here.

My fave armour style is the armour of the elves in Helm's Deep. I like the Helm and the armour doesn't look bulky and awkward.

I really loved the way the Elves in the prologue were dressed...I thought the design was beautiful and it looks comfortable too...My fav is Gil-galad's armour and the way it combains with his cloak....

When it comes to terms of mobility, effectiveness, protection and look it's really difficult to decide.
I for different reasons feel more keen on the Noldor Armour , it allows great mobility and still provides decent protection , the only flaw is the helmet , after 30 minutes fighting with such a helmet you would have lost your neck.
Then in terms of protection and effectiveness, I vote for the Uruk Hai, the adapted shield is unbeatable, and the armour assembles so well that it doesn't look as heavy armour at all.
In terms of Beauty and look, the vote goes to the Elves of Helm's Deep armour, but it offers almost no protection at all.
In terms of balance I vote for the Gondor armour (the Osgiliath one) it is a well made full harness and the Helmet, contrary to what I have read here, is extremely efficient, perhaps the best helmet of the movies, for its simplicity and functionality, might not look pretty, but in the end you didn't go to war to look nice (unless you were a Sindar that is).
And last of all, the Rohan armour, it is very uncomfortable for riding, and the scales are some of the worst protection that existed, for they were linked with leather lacings, so imagine the mess if one of the laces came undone, also the folds at the front of the legs are most prone to cause difficulties when making a run, and the helmet is the only decent part of it, now if you look at Eomer's armour, there's a good piece of leather and plaques armour, very well balanced, and beautifuly made, perhaps one of the best pieces of armour in the movie, in contrast to his fellow rohirrim.

I heard from one of the extras (elves) that the prologue armor was very hard to move in. So though it looked cool was not practical.

The helms also looked cool, but what is the point of the big "blade" thing on top? Last I checked elves did not head butt in battle.

My favorite armor would most definatly be the witch king's, his crown is awsome.

I knew that comment would get some attention. You are right the elves had 1000's of years to develop armor and took great pride in their weapons and armor.

Its not common for a single blow to cleave through a gauntlet like that, it was guarded. Seeing as sauron was clad in comepletely articulate full plate armor I would say he was very well protected indeed.

Yeah. I think the Rohirrim have the best fashion sense (in the movies). The elves clothes are way too comfortable for my liking. I'm more active. I never wear dresses. I hate them, though I would make an exception if I was presented with a fitting dress of likeness to Eowyns (in the movie).

I loved the Sindarin elves armour style. It was beautiful. It came close to the Noldorion elves style, but the reason I chose it was because it was much simpler and less detailed. It is beautiful, yet simple.
