Which actor has the most suitable voice for his character/role and relevant to the occasion/situation? Please state whom you voted for and why. For those who chose someone not named above, please state who is your choice and why.
I voted for Aragorn because his voice can be angry (as in the argument with Legolas scene) according to the situation, romantic/loving (as in the scenes with Arwen) and also firm as when he was talking about Arwen to Elrond.

Definetely Aragorn. A bit silent, compared to the rest.

Well i think Gollum because he can sit there argueing with himself for hours and can get all the emotions going at the same time:thumbs: he has the beast voice for his situation:)

It's got to be Andy's Gollum. Stupid Oscars! Darn it! Andy Serkis really deserves recognition!

Go Gollum, go Gollum, go Gollum ...lol ... yep the fishy schizophrenic one for me .. hold on Arwen wasn't in the poll .... nah jk ;) ... if i had to pick a second place though it would probably go to Saruman (Christopher Lee was v v fab IMO)

I'm voting Gollum... I think Andy Serkis captured the "Gollum voice" perfectly. You can also tell when he's "Gollum" and when he's "Smeagol" by voice and mood changes... The only thing that i imagined differently was the "Gollum" noise that he made in his throat. Rather than a cough, i pictured it more as a swallow.

I voted for Legolas, although Andy Serkis performed the voice of Gollum extraordinarily well.

I voted for Gollum as well. I remember the first time I heard his voice in FOTR. It was amazing. It was EXACTLY how I had imagined him sounding! It blew me away! Gollum hands down.

i don't know whether aragorns voice changed as often as it did in FOTR but it did change quite a bit i think.....
Lurtz
March 25th,2003, 02:17 PM
I thought maybe Lurtz had the best voice, and i'm being serious, cuz it was like really cool how he could growl and bark and do all those noises while fighting, although it could have just been dubbed in. Oh well.

I voted "none of the above" because I think Gimli had the best voice.

Gollum is perfect...totally perfect, no match! Just as I imagined! If Gandalf had been one of the choices, I would have had a tougher case deciding, tho!

Well, now that i think about it, Gollum's voice was better, but I already voted for Frodo. lol What do you do?
Andy did an awesome job, but Elijah's english accent makes me melt, and it is very well done. It is almost as if he is english, so.... yup
Saruman

Is it just me, or does Aragorn have a very nasal voice sometimes?

I vote for Aragorn and here's why:
Leave everything that can be spared behind we travel light let's go hunt some orcs
Then I shall die as one of them
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhhh [ after Aragorn kicks orc helmt breaking his toe in the process poor Aragorn!!!!]
I would have followed you to the end to the very fires of mordor
I have lots more reasons but I'll leave it to that

Virtually 98% of the dialog was re-recorded during ADR. All of the orc and uruk voices were done by other actors, partially because the actors/stunties playing those parts simply could not speak distinctly around all of the teeth in their mouths.
I do know that Andy Serkis [Gollum] did a number of voices (TTT - man-flesh Uruk - body by Sala Baker; TTT - Snagu - body by Jed Brophy; FOTR - black rider - "Shire, Baggins") and Craig Parker [Haldir] (ROTK - Gothmog, the pink orc - body by Lawrence Makoare [Lurtz] and his evil assistant, the noseless beauty with the skull on top of his head - "Catapults!") :)

I voted for Gollum, he has the most awesome voice. It has the torment and the pain and the hatred along with the innocence of Smeagol. I really like the two distinct voices of Smeagol and Gollum and the emotions that go along with each of the personalities. It is brilliant how Andy figured out the vioce from hearing his cat cough up a furball lol
and who can forget his "my preciousss" and the memorable
"wicked tricksie false... no not master... yes precious false... they will cheat you hurt you lie!...Master’s my friend... You don’t have any friends. Nobody likes you...(Puts his hands over his ears) Not listening, I’m not listening... You’re a liar and a thief... No. (Shakes his head) Murderer... :gollum:

I voted for Gollum, he has the coolest voice and it fits his personality and looks perfectly. Andy Serkis did such a great job. I also like Faramir and Sarumans voices.

I'd have to say Gollum or Legolas

I voted none of the above. I think Gandalf has the best voice of all carachters. Ian certainly know how to transmit emotions through his voice.

I agree that Andy did an awesome job with Gollum and understand it was quite painful at times rubbing his poor throat raw! :gollum:
Honorable mention should go to Ian's Gandalf...I love the way he hollered "Bilbo Baggins...I'm not trying to rob you!" :gandalf: :o

Yes, Legy's is very elvish, but I love Frodo's, He is a really good voice actor. But Gollum tops all. Aragorn's is kinda grough which is good too.

I'd say Orlando Bloom's voice fit Legolas' character very well. It was soft, and sort of graceful, yet filled with the passion and knowledge that is characteristic of the elves. Of course, the portrayal of Gollum's voice by Andy Serkis was also brilliant: pitiful and whining, much like Gollum himself, but there is something about Orlando's voice that makes it a winning match for his character, imho. (and no I'm not a drooling Orli fan--I just like his voice in this situation lol)

Christopher Lee is the finest voice actor in the film. Indeed Christopher Lee is one of the greatest voice actors in cinema history. I hope he gets the chance to display Saruman's voice of Power at Orthanc in RoTK EE.

Agreed.
Unlike the awful voice of Annie Lennox.

I thought Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee and Andy Serkis each had the perfect voice for their respective roles. Honourable mentions to Viggo and Brad Dourif. As for the rest, each cast member had a voice almost as good. Considering the large number of key roles in LotR, the casting was simply outstanding, with not one miscast actor.

I'm not fond of Enya's voice, but the way the song fits the voice makes up for the lapses I see in her singing voice.

I'm sorry but Christopher Lee's voice was the best, it just worked. It fitted the costume, which is hard in costume films. And if you've whatched any Chris movie you can tell he was so born to just do the voice for Sauruman.

That's a good way of putting it...I agree completely. I don't really like her other music, but her LotR songs do fit soooo well. I think it would be interesting though to hear May It Be sung by another singer. Remember how Sissel did Into the West? It was different from the way Annie did it, and I kinda liked it better. I wonder if May It Be could be done better? :mmmm:

This is a tough poll squinchy
PJ did such an amazing job in casting -- and the actors themselves did an amazing job with their voices/accents --
it's hard to consider a voice other than the ones he chose.
(Can I think "Aragorn" and not hear Viggo's voice? :nono: )
So I really had to vote for Gollum. Andy made someone essentially unreal or fantastic very real and fleshed out, so to speak.

Andy Serkis did sucha good job on Gollum so I had to vote for him.
If he wasn't on there, I would have voted for Aragorn.

I voted for Gollum 'cause his voice was probabaly the closest to what I would have imagined from the books. 2nd choice would have to be Treebeard-how else would a talking tree sound?? Also , Saruman, Gandalf and Gimli were very powerful voices...(even tho' Aragorn and Legolas are probably my favorite characters!)

Gollum wins hands down. Oops I mean Andy Serkis wins. He was just brilliant.
Second place would be Gandalf. The Bridge of Khazad-Dum, anyone?
